About the Course
These one day throwing workshops take place at an Art Centre in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.
The pottery workshop can accommodate 5 students at a time. Clay and tools are provided and the fee includes the firing of one finished thrown pot. If you want to fire more pots then this can be arranged at a small cost.
Aprons are available, but it is recommended that you bring your own apron or clothes that you don't mind getting clay on. It comes off very easily.
This course is designed for beginners wishing to learn the basics of throwing a cylinder - the basis of most thrown pots. More experienced throwers can be shown more advanced techniques.
The workshop will run subject to two people being booked for each day. If you would like to book a place on one of the above dates, enquire about availability of places, or if you have any questions regarding the workshops you can contact me through the contact form above.
If you find that you need to rearrange the course for a later date I will need at least two weeks notice.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?

The cost to fire one thrown pot is included.

Hot and cold drinks and sweets are available from the Art Centre Cafe and it is advised that you bring a packed lunch.
Charlie's workshop was amazing. The teaching was pitched perfectly for a novice like me. Charlie was also very encouraging and positive about not stressing over our mistakes. I was given this course as a present and it was a delight. I would definitely recommend this course, it gives you a superb start to what could be a new hobby.
Thank you Charlie

Response from Charlie's Pots:Hello Caroline
I attended Charlie's workshop 6th October with a friend. It was superb! Highly recommend. Well paced with background info on preparing clay, demonstrations, explanations and of course hands on pot throwing. A very relaxed atmosphere. Lots of encouragement and lots of opportunities to start again with assistance at all stages to reinforce learning. I eventually made three pots that I am really proud of. I think I may have a talent! Can't wait to return to glaze them and collect after the final firing. I will definitely be taking this up. Well done Charlie. You have introduced me to a new interest.

Charlie is a wonderful teacher. His patience is amazing, and we did finally achieve pots worth firing. Thank you. The day was excellently planned, the timing allowed us to start again when things went wrong and it was relaxing and fun. I would recommend to anyone that they attend one of Charlie's courses. I will certainly persevere and attend more courses if I can. An excellent day.

I loved the course. Charlie is very experienced and very helpful.
I had no experience and was able to bring 3 pieces home. I went back to glaze them after the course and I would like to go back again for a few more sessions too.
I liked that we had a wheel for each of us, and plenty of time to make mistakes and start again. The course is also also very affordable.

A great beginners workshop to attend and enjoyed the experience immensly even though I went solo and slightly out of my comfort zone, especially as I have arthritis in my fingers, but Charlie was so patient, enthusiastic and explained each stage in detail.
Can't wait to see my 3 pots fired and ready for the next stage of glazing them.

I had this as a birthday present from my son and daughter-in-law. I did not have a clue what I was going to do. I had a great time. Charlie was very patient and very good at explaining things. I managed to make 3 pots and can’t wait to go back and glaze them.

This is a fantastic course and a wonderful day learning how to throws pots on the wheel. Charlie is an excellent tutor, really clear instruction, and a friendly and encouraging approach. He really made the day a pleasure, and made time to help each of us individually through the day. I would wholeheartedly recommend the course and will be looking for follow up workshops so we can carry on learning. Thanks! Pascale and David

An excellent course, perfect for a novice. Charlie was an excellent teacher and once he had demonstrated we had loads of hands on time with great supervision. If I didn’t live so far away I’d go back and do more.
