About the Course
Join us in our thatched long barn in the heart of the Meon Valley to create beautiful wire birds. This half day workshop is part of Art in The Barn; a Creative Arts Week on the edge of a The South Downs.
We will start the day with a short inspirational walk along the banks of the River Meon that runs close to the Long Barn, where geese, water fowl and swans swim. Or you may decide to bring along particular images of garden or domestic birds that you wish to model.
This half day workshop will be run by Liz Wellby, who will guide you through a number of stages, enabling you to create your own tiny wire and paper sculptures.
Your initial ideas will be sketched and explored through collage and using fine, flexible wire. Heat treated wire is an expressive material and surprisingly easy to handle, cut and manipulate with basic hand tools; it's like drawing in the air.
Please bring along your wellies, an iPad or digital camer and A6 images, drawings or photos of birds in profile. This workshop is suitable for beginners and is designed for a maximum of 12 people.
