Please come and visit my studio at home and learn to make a 6 x 4"/10 x 15cm linocut print.
Only 3 students maximum at a time, so there’s plenty of time to help everyone!
All linocutting tools, ink, papers and other materials will be provided: just bring along any photos/drawings/other pictures for inspiration. Linocut is a very graphic form of image - simpler images and definite lines work better than those which are too fine, as they will not print properly because they will fill up with ink. There is no need to be able to draw brilliantly - being able to trace is all that's needed, after all it's the interpretation in cutting and printing that makes all the difference!
The image will be the same size as the plate. Preparing any images in advance so they are already 6 x 4”/10 x 15cm is a very good idea to save time. Lino ink can be very messy so an apron is a must as well, although I do have some to borrow if need be!
If you have any lino tools please bring them along too, and any other interesting pictures for reference will be good for everyone to look at and share. I have a large collection of art books and cards to give you inspiration, and also sample images if you need some extra ideas.
I discovered art as a mature student and now I am an artist specialising in linocut printmaking.
All my own prints are original handmade linocuts, made with real ink, on real paper, on a real press by me.
It's so nice for me to be able to pass on everything that I've learnt myself by putting on these workshop days. I've offered occasional linocut taster days to let people come and see and use my studio and facilities for some time, but now I've joined Craft Courses to help me organise things better!
Please note my studio is upstairs, and this is a family home where there are 2 cats. Please be aware of this if you have mobility problems or are allergic to cats.
If you will be redeeming a CraftCourses gift voucher on this course, the voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
All linocutting tools, ink, papers and other materials will be provided.
Tea, coffee and other drinks will be provided, but please bring along a packed lunch.
