Description

A creative workshop with Liverpool based Artist Catherine Carmyllie in her quirky artist studio space. Catherine has over 25 years of experience teaching arts and crafts across subjects such as drawing, painting mixed media, and textile techniques like stitch, felt, dye, and print.

In this beginners class you will see lots of examples from previous students. Learn all about this historic and natural process from Catherine who learnt to felt in Finland at the Kuopio Arts & Crafts Academy where she studied over 20 years ago. She will teach you about fibres and how to use them. Complete a test sample before embarking on your luxury bird pod for your garden friends.

Felting occurs when natural fibres such as wool are exposed to water and friction. The fibres have scaled which open up during the felting process, closing down to form a textile material. Felting is the oldest form of creating a fabric - a totally natural process with endless possibilities for creative projects. This simple process is similar to papier mache around a balloon - but with fibres resulting in a rigid nut/pod shape.

Due to such small class size, Catherine is able to offer almost 1 to 1 tuition. Any unfinished work each week can be completed easily at home. Choose form over 50 shades of wool fibres to compose your design then learn how to felt together. See her collection of hemp, linen, silks, possum, yak fibre....Catherine will show you how to finish your work to a professional standard with your pod ready to hang from a tree as soon as you get home.

Materials & kits will be available on the day to purchase for yourself or as gifts.
