About the Course
Join me at my Beginners Felt Picture Workshop to learn how to create a beautiful picture of your own using merino wool! On this half day workshop you will be taught how to lay down the merino wool fibres and build up the image and how to mix colours by carding. I will then take you step by step through the wet felting processs.
You will leave with your own felt picture which you can further enhance at home with stitching if you wish. Half way through we will take a short break for coffee and home made cake. Workshops are suitable for beginners or those who already have some experience of felting.
I also run a follow on, Advanced Workshop, which will introduce you to other fibres you can use in your pictures, such as silks, angelina fibres and even gold leaf! I will also demonstrate free machine embroidery, needle felting and hand stitching, which you can add to your pictures at home.
Felt picture making workshops are run throughout the year at The Barn in Houlton, Rugby (CV23 0AB), close to Junction 18 of the M1. This is a beautiful brand new community centre with lots of space and light, right next to the lovely Tuning Fork café, perfect for lunch afterwards! There is plenty of free parking. The venue is all on one level, so suitable for wheelchair users.
Small groups ensure plenty of individual attention (max 6 people per class)
Current dates and availability are shown on my website. If you get a small group of your friends together, I am also happy to arrange a date to suit you - ideal for birthdays, ladies groups, hen nights and other celebrations!

If you want a relaxing, rewarding, fulfilling few hours, you can't do better that join Karen on one of her felting courses. I have learnt so much even though I knew nothing about felting beforehand. Karen guides you along without intrusion, towards your final piece of work, which you can hold up and say with pride, "I made that". Oh, and she makes seriously good cakes to have in the break!

Last Saturday, April 27th I attended a felting workshop with Karen. What an enjoyable few hours. So informative and relaxing. I am totally hooked and as I bought one of Karen's starter packs I have done another picture at home. We all went home with a lovely piece of work encouraged along the process. Nice coffee and yummy cake. I shall definitely book another workshop to learn more. Thank you again Karen

I have just participated in my third workshop - I just love felting, particularly with Karen. It's such a calm, friendly experience every time. Karen explains the process so well and knows just how to help if you need it.
The Barn at Houlton is a lovely venue too - did I mention Karen also makes cake for attendees too?
I would highly recommend these workshops... I know I'm gushing but I would also say don't stop at one workshop, with felting being such a dynamic process, there's always more to get out of attending.

I recently attended a second workshop led by Karen, so I have now done both the introductory and advanced sessions. Both have been very well organised and resourced. Lots of ideas of things to do and patient, helpful tips, too, throughout the sessions on techniques to include on your picture. Excellent social occasions, too, as it's a great opportunity to chat to fellow crafters and see their approach. All complimented each time with tea/coffee and cake. The venue is delightful, too. A modern barn conversion, well lit rooms and easy access to all facilities for everyone. Can thoroughly recommend these courses.

I booked the beginners course with two friends before Christmas and we enjoyed it so much that we went back for the Advanced course on Saturday. Karen helped us with our wet felting with reminders of what to do and gentle suggestions for how to improve our pictures. The additional fibres and techniques she showed us have inspired me to get even more creative.

I really enjoyed making a wet felted picture and realising all the processes that went into it. A new craft for me and hopefully I will be able to attend an advanced class at some stage. Karen was very helpful at all times and the cake she made was delicious. Craft Course voucher was a good Christmas present choice.

I really enjoyed this course. I've always wanted to learn how to make felt and this was a wonderful way to learn. I've got a lovely picture that I made to take home and I'm looking forward to doing another course with Karen.

Although I had never tried felting before, it was not daunting as Karen guided us step by step. The experience was great fun and I found everyone very friendly. I was very impressed with my painting at the end of the day and couldn’t quite believe that I had made it myself! I wholeheartedly recommend this course and Karen is an excellent teacher.

Making a felt picture was great fun. Each step was explained before you had a go yourself and Karen was always there ready to offer help, advice and encouragement. Merino wool is very tactile, smooth and soft to touch and the colours are so enticing! Anyone could do this workshop; you don’t need to be artistic, just able to lay out your chosen picture in wool. The wet felting gives movement to everything and that gives life to what might otherwise be just a static ‘copy’. It’s fascinating to do because you never quite know what the results will be! But a warning, it is addictive…

I am about to do my 3rd felting course with Karen and I'm already hooked! Karen is an excellent teacher and everyone always creates something beautiful to take home with them. The courses are small and friendly and great value for money. A course with Karen would make an excellent gift for a crafty friend too. And Karen's homemade cake is always a yummy treat.
