Description

Explore your creativity in Enamels. A beginners session for a group of three people booking together. Take your first steps in this fantastic craft in which specially made glass powders are melted and fused to a metal base in a kiln. The enamel powder is transformed into a hard, shiny surface, which can be decorated with further enamels and /or embellished with a variety of other forms of glass such as beads and millefiori. You will be helped to take a simple copper shape, learn to apply enamels, fire your work and make it into your own unique piece of enamelled jewellery (such as a pendant), or a small plaque to take home. A session will last between two to two and a half hours, dependent on design choices and if you would like to make an additional item*. Wednesday, Thursday, or Saturday mornings are the session days. Usual start time is 10am, but there is flexibility to 10.30am or 11am for those travelling some distance. The workshop is suitable for beginners, or those who have a small amount of experience. No drawing ability is needed. Don’t worry if you want to come along with someone, who you think is much more creative than you, enamelling is for everyone. Anyone can achieve a very satisfying result by the end of the session. Christine has been teaching enamelling at her studio at Avoncroft Arts Centre, on the outskirts of Bromsgrove for around seven years and has many years experience in the craft. The studio workshop area is quite small and can accommodate groups of up to a maximum of four students. The workshops can be organised as and when requested, to suit an individual or group. Other dates can be arranged in addition to the specific ones offered here, please ask if you can’t find one to suit you. Group sessions are usually formed from friends/relatives/colleagues who want take part in a creative activity together. I currently only accept bookings from one person for the all three places available on a workshop. Individual tuition is available and during the session you would be able to complete more than one item, if wished, or try out samples of techniques leading to a finished piece. Although aimed at adults, in response to requests an accompanied child/or children are welcome to take part in a group session, bearing in mind a minimum age for this workshop of ten/eleven. This is due to the materials used, a need for awareness of the high temperature of the kiln, and other safety issues. Parents should assess suitability for any particular child in this regard and, as a certain level of dexterity is also required. Price: Book a session for three - £30 per place. If you prefer you can choose to have a one to one session, or a two person workshop. Please see my other listings. Price: Individual Tuition - £60 per session Two Person Session - £70.00 (£35 per place)

What's included in the price?

Tuition and all materials to make one item of jewellery or one small plaque are included. If students wish to make a second item there will be an additional charge of £5.00 each. Due to Covid 19, please bring your own drink in a cup with a lid. Drinks should to be covered while working with enamel powders. If you want to make a day of it, there are local country pubs and restaurants nearby for lunch and the studio is located right next to Avoncroft Museum, which has a tearoom.
