Description

Explore your creativity in Enamels. A workshop for one, two or, three people booking together. Currently, I can only accept bookings for two or, three person sessions from one person booking both or, all three places respectively. A one to one session costs £70. A two person workshop is £40 per person (£80 in total) and a three person workshop £35 (£105 in total). Take your first steps in this fantastic craft in which specially-made glass powders are melted and fused to a metal base in a kiln. The enamel powder is transformed into a hard, shiny surface, which can be decorated with further enamels and /or embellished with a variety of other forms of glass such as beads and millefiori. You will be helped to take a simple copper shape, learn to apply enamels, fire your work and make it into your own unique piece of enamelled jewellery (such as a pendant), or a small plaque to take home. A session will last between two to two and a half hours, dependent on design choices and if you would like to make an additional item. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday mornings are the session days. Usual start time is 10am, but there is flexibility for 10.30am or 11am for those travelling some distance. The workshop is suitable for beginners, or those who have a small amount of experience. No drawing ability is needed. Enamelling is for everyone and anyone can achieve a very satisfying result by the end of the session. Christine has been teaching enamelling at her studio at Avoncroft Arts Centre, on the outskirts of Bromsgrove, for around seven years and has many years experience in the craft. The studio workshop area is quite small and can accommodate groups of up to a maximum of four students. Although aimed at adults a child/children are welcome to take part in a group session with a parent/s, guardian/s or, other adults. The sessions are not available to unaccompanied children (under 18’s). A minimum age of ten to eleven is necessary to attend a workshop. This is due to the materials used, a need for awareness of the high temperature of the kiln, and other safety issues. Parents should assess suitability for any particular child in this regard and, as a certain level of dexterity is also required. The workshops can be organised as and when requested, to suit an individual or group. Other dates can be arranged in addition to any specific ones offered here, please ask if you can’t find one to suit you. During the session you will be able to complete your work ready to take home with you.

What's included in the price?

Tuition and all materials to make one item of jewellery or a small plaque are included at two or, three person workshops. At a one to one session, you can make two items (with no additional charge for a second item.) At a two or, three person workshop an extra item can be made for an additional £8 each. If you require a hot drink please bring your own in a cup with a lid. Unfortunately, I do not have the space to provide hot drinks. For safety reasons drinks must be covered while working with enamel powders or, consumed away from the working area. Bottled water is always available. If you want to make a day of it, there are local country pubs and restaurants nearby for lunch and the studio is located right next to Avoncroft Museum, which has a tearoom.
