Enamelling on copper bowls day course at Rainbow Glass Studios

X

Description

Welcome to our new day course exploring the colourful art of kiln enamelling on small copper bowls. Your chance to decorate larger surfaces with an array of opaque and transparent enamels to create unique and beautiful finishes to your own designs. This course is for students with some previous experience of hot kiln enamelling. We will cover the process step by step to ensure everyone is confident and teach you a variety of decorative finishes using enamel powders, glass media and millefiore that you can draw on later in the day when decorating your own bowls. You will make and finish two lovely bowls (approx 6 - 7 cm diameter each) and some initial enamel domed samples to practice your decorative techniques on too (which can also be used as jewellery afterwards) See the photos for an idea of some of the finishes possible! All materials are included, and we will supply plenty of tea, coffee and herbal teas and biscuits throughout the day. We will break at lunchtime for half an hour. There are lots of local cafes nearby, or you can head for Clissold Park with your packed lunch for a break. For adults over 16 years of age. Please note this course takes place in a working glass studio so we will be standing at benches most of the time to work. Stools are available in between times for sitting down. (We would not advise anyone who is currently pregnant to attend the course without the advice of their GP.)

I'm Eleanor, I'm a jeweller and glass maker and I love colour, texture, design and pattern. I work across all of these in a variety of media including fused glass, enamel, silver, copper, anodised aluminium creating my one-off jewellery and glass pieces. I retrained as a jeweller in 2012, and I work with my husband at Rainbow Glass Studios where I thoroughly enjoy teaching weekend courses in glass and enamelling. I believe everyone has creativity and I want to encourage you to explore yours!

FAQs

No, you don't need any previous experience. We will teach you step by step from the beginning. We will teach you how to cut and combine glass safely and confidently, and work with you to make beautiful fused glass for your home (or jewellery depending on the course) working from a huge range of sample pieces to inspire you, and incorporating your creative ideas into the piece you make.

For all enamelling classes, students need to be over the age of 16 years to attend.
For all fused glass classes, students need to be over 16 years, except for the Fused Glass Christmas Decorations course where we can teach children over the age of 12 if they are accompanied by a fee paying adult too.
