Description
Enamelling jewellery ~ Come and join us at the Oast Studio for a day of fun and creativity. We’re excited to invite you to a fabulous enamelling workshop where we'll dive into the vibrant world of kiln enamelling on to copper. Whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned crafter, this course is perfect for anyone who loves a bit of colour in their life and doesn’t mind a bit of heat! Enamelling has been around for a long time having started in the 5th century BCE with the Greeks. Enamel as an art form is seen across many ages and cultures, the Celts in the 3rd century, Byzantium, Renaissance Italy & 13th century China to name a few. As you can see, it’s a technique steeped in history, and now you too can learn this beautiful tradition. During this day course, we'll learn to fuse finely powdered glass enamel on to a copper surface, creating a beautiful, glossy finish. You'll be amazed at how the colours alter as they emerge from the kiln and start to cool, be sure to watch the pure alchemy! You’ll be guided through various simple decorative techniques, encouraging you to experiment and create your own unique pieces of jewellery. If you're ready to unleash your inner artist and have a fantastic time doing it, come and join us for a day of enamelling fun. We can't wait to see what you create! You will: - Learn health and safety when enamelling using a kiln fired to about 850°C. - How to prepare your copper for enamelling - Make several sample pieces using a range of techniques - Explore the use of opaque and transparent enamels - Use decorative inclusions, e.g. frit, glass beads, millefiori, and copper wire - Explore colour, and surface design with stencils, printing and drawing - Design at least one final piece to finish with jewellery findings by the end of the day (most people make 2 or 3!) Our Studio is in a beautiful converted Oast with exposed beams and gentle views across the farmland. Filled with mouth-watering aromas from The Oast Bakery, where Alison prepares our delicious refreshments, this is the perfect place to escape the pressures of daily life and enjoy some creative time for yourself. Our aim is to offer the chance to unwind, learn a new skill and meet like minded people whilst enjoying a cuppa and a slice of cake. "I cannot recommend The Oast Studio enough. There are so many great courses to choose from. I have done cushion making, paper flowers, rope bowls and also the social sewing evening. The tutors are amazing, patient and inspiring. Alison who provides the refreshments is lovely. Her homemade cakes and lunches are out of this world. I cannot recommended The Oast Studio enough" - SHARON CLARK
