Coastal Feltmaking with Sarah Holloway

X

Description

Come and learn to make felt inspired by the colours and textures of the coast. This will take place in the Discovery Room at Oriel Y Parc Gallery and Visitor Centre on the edge of St David's, Pembrokeshire in West Wales. It's not far from the sea and Oriel Y Parc is a beautiful and innovative eco building and an inspiring place to visit in itself. You will learn the basics of felt-making and how to turn your creation into a wall hanging on a piece of driftwood. There will be plenty of coloured wool tops (non-mulesed) for you to choose from to make your felt piece, and additional texture can be added too, such as yarns, open weave fabric and curly wool locks. You will be able to take your wet felt home with you to dry and then transform it into a wall hanging, if you wish. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

What's included in the price?

Materials and most equipment, as well as hanging thread and driftwood will be provided, although you may like to beach comb for your own. Please bring a rolling pin or thick wooden dowling for rolling your wet felt, as part of the felting process. Also you will need to bring an old towel and a bag to transport your wet felt home in. There will be plenty of visual resources to help inspire you, including images by other feltmakers. You will be given an information sheet with some historical context, as well as links to feltmaking resources. There will be a café on site for you to purchase hot drinks, refreshments and lunch, if you wish.
