Learn the craft of throwing on the potters wheel. The Pottery Wheel Experience Day is suitable for beginners and improvers alike. Imogen will demonstrate the foundations of how to prepare, centre and shape your clay. Each potter will have their own wheel for the day. You’ll be guided step by step through the process of making cylinders (cups), before progressing onto bowls. After lunch, you’ll learn how to shape the cylinder to make different forms including jugs with spouts and vases. You’ll be encouraged to work at your own pace, practicing to create your perfect pots! At the end of the day you’ll have lots of pots, and choose your top three to be glazed and fired. This class immerses you in the creative process, and you will feel a real sense of achievement by the end of the day. With a maximum of seven students per group, class sizes are small & ensuring plenty of tuition. Courses are suitable for over 16’s only. Please dress for mess! Bring a small hand towel, and apron if you have one. Studio apron hire is £3. Short nails are recommended, and flat, enclosed shoes. Founded in 2015 by artist Imogen Charleston, Moon Studio is situated in a rustic converted barn, on the outskirts of Christchurch, Dorset. Here Imogen teaches a variety of pottery classes to suit all ages and abilities. These include taster sessions and short courses for adults, and workshops for children & families. The pottery studio is nestled between The New Forest and Avon Beach, with easy access from Bournemouth, Poole, Lymington and Southampton area.

FAQs
My classes are suitable for absolute beginners and anyone aged from 18 to 98! You will be guided through the making process step by step. Groups are small so you will get some one to one tution.
If coming for the day/weekend please bring a packed lunch. Tea, fresh coffee and locally made cake will be served at breaks. Dress for mess and comfort! Bring an apron and hand towel (or you can hire them). Flat shoes with closed toes recommended. Short nails are also advisable, and long hair needs to be tied back.
Using a pottery wheel can be more physical than you imagine. You will be sitting and need to bend at the hips and lean forward. You will be using both arms and hands to shape the clay. While you don't need to be strong, it does require some effort to learn anything new with the body and you will sleep well after the first day! If you have any questions about accessability please get in touch.
Moon Studio Ceramics is in a converted barn. It's located on an old farm in a quiet rural setting. Perfect to enjoy some creative time in! There is free parking on site. The nearest train stations are Christchurch (10mins drive) and Hinton Admiral (5mins drive). It is on National Cycle Route 2.
Changes to reservations can be made up to 30 days before your class, please email your request. If there are less than 30 days to your class then your reservation is non transferable. If you cannot make it you are welcome to give your place to a friend/family member. I strongly advise participants purchase a cancellation insurance to cover any loss you may incur if you have to pull out of your booking last minute due to unforseen circumstances.
