About the Course
Learn bushcraft skills on a one day course, run by the Field Studies Council.
This course is perfect for anyone interested in basic survival skills. It is also suitable for youth group leaders that wish to gain more confidence in taking their units outdoors for Bushcraft activities. This course offers participants the opportunity to learn and practice basic Bushcraft skills in Epping Forest. The majority of the day will be spent lighting fires and cooking outdoors; plus building shelters. Other skills that will be built upon include plant identification, looking at animal tracks and signs, foraging, water purification; plus basic knots and lashing skills. The final aspect of the course will be thinking about how to work ethically and to “leave no trace.”
About the Tutor:
Led by Centre staff passionate about enganging children and adults in the out doors and helping them capture the natural world around them.

Introduction to the Forest and its by-laws, working ethically -
Risk assessment and dynamic risk assessment -
Foraging, plant ID, animal tracks and signs -

What to bring:
Weather-appropriate outdoor clothing
Some classroom work; majority of time outside in the Centre grounds - all level access and within short walking distances of the Centre.
Health and Safety:
There will be a member of staff with first aid training and access to a first aid kit on site.

FSC Epping Forest is situated in the heart of Epping Forest and manages the field centre on behalf of the City of London since its opening in 1971. As a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), the forest is nationally important for wildlife and offers a wide range of learning opportunities.
