Description

The shaving horse is one of the key tools in a green woodworkers workshop. On this course you’ll make a dumb head horse; the most versatile and useful type by far. The Touch Wood design includes a level platform height (30" ish), to which a useful vice can be fixed, and could be used as... a bench! (very useful!). The legs will be cleft and shaped with a drawknife and fitted using green woodwork techniques. Some simple carpentry skills will be used in creating the swinging arm and platform on the bench. The shaving horse ‘knocks apart’ so is easily transportable. Expect a busy two days learning some fundamental green woodworking skills while making your own shaving horse; culminating in some practice in using it and understanding of the range of uses to which it can be put; including using it as a cleaving break. Once you have your own shave horse you'll wonder how you ever did without one! Drawknives will be available for sale at the venue (of course plenty will be available for you to use during the course). Camping is available on site, please enquire. Enjoy this action packed 2 day course, coached by an experienced artisan tutor, and take the fruits of your labour home with you at the end of the course! (Please be warned, green woodworking is a vey absorbing activity, and once you have a shave horse, there's no looking back!) This course is available by arrangement, please get in touch if you'd like to book.
