Join us at Semper Hopkins Upholstery and Interiors in our idyllic converted Chapel workshop in the Cheshire countryside where you will be taught by business owner Emma.
Walk away with a piece of furniture, handmade by you which you get to take home at the end of the day. An item to treasure forever and a reminder of the joy that we can bring into our lives when we tap into our fun and creative side again.
This is a two-day workshop designed to give you an introduction to the craft. You will learn about the tools and materials needed for upholstery. The workshops are perfect if you want a taster into the world of upholstery. The course will run for two consecutive days.
You will be taught how to make one of our beautiful benches. The benches are perfect for a variety of uses such as, dining table seating, hallway, utility room, conservatory, or window seating.
The size of the benches can be either a 4ft or 5ft size and are 120cm / 150cm wide x 40cm deep x 50cm high.
For each bench you will be provided with the frame, legs and upholstery materials. You will get to choose from three types of leg either industrial hairpin or splayed steel legs or A frame bench ends.
You will learn to;
-Make an upholstered bench seat where you will be taught techniques like applying and stapling foam, wadding, hessian, and elasticated webbing.
-Template your fabric, including measuring, cutting, stapling, and cutting round corners.
-Use a commercial sewing machine to make fabric piping and side panels and how to make and apply buttons too if this is part of your design.
-Use hand held power tools to fix the legs to your bench.
We keep the class size to no more than six people so you will get lots out of the day. We supply you with all the tools & materials needed you just need to bring 2m of your own fabric suitable for upholstery use. If you need any help with fabric selection or advice on types of suitable fabric then please get in touch with us by clicking the 'Chat with the Maker' button and we can point you in the right direction, or you can buy your fabric through us.
The workshops are held in our beautiful workshop, a converted Methodist Chapel, in Scholar Green nestled in the peaceful Cheshire countryside.
The course will start at 9am finishing at approximately 4.30pm. Hot drinks are included throughout the day. You will need to bring your own packed lunch with you.
Our stools are both decorative and practical for personal use but also a lovely gift to be given to family or friends too.
You could attend the workshop and make the bench for yourself or buy it as an experience day for a creative loved one. If you are buying as a gift please leave their name in the ‘additional information section’ at the check out
