richard watts reviewed: Two day wood carving course at Hanbury Hall

"This was a really lovely two days at Hanbury Hall. My wife bought this for me as a birthday present, so I didn't really have any agenda, just enjoyed getting lost in the wood carving experience. I had never done this before, but Geraint was a knowledgeable and sympathetic tutor, and guided us through the course. I managed to produce a passable result, if not up to Michelangelo or Bernini standard. Geraint suggested I burn it afterwards (a finishing technique not a comment on my work!) which has given it a very nice look. Will need a few months for my fingers and back to go back to normal I expect, (despite plenty of coffee and lunch breaks) but well worth the effort!"

Aidan reviewed: Scandinavian Shrink Pots

"I thoroughly enjoyed the course. We started with a chunk of tree branch and ended up with a very attractive and unusual pot. Mike really knows his stuff and has a good balance between keeping a close eye on what we're doing while letting us get on with it and try different skills."

Jenny reviewed: Day classes in traditional blacksmithing ... make an item to take away

"I had a wonderful day working at Rudi’s forge learning a new skill with some fantastic teaching. I chose to make a knife but we also managed a keychain, coat hook. I’m very proud of the results! Rudi gave great explanations and then the perfect balance of letting me get on with it independently whilst still checking in on how I was getting on. I wholeheartedly recommend!"

"Really enjoyable weekend, good to experience new skills, very nice group of people to journey with. Sebastian gave clear instruction to get us started, frequent encouragement, regular guidance and very helpful constructive criticism, always able to fully answer any questions posed. Very dusty, muscles given good workout, creativity accomplished from a solid block of stone. Strongly recommend. "

Di reviewed: Kintsugi Workshop for beginners

"I did a Kintsugi course run by Lucy yesterday, it was really well organised, clear instructions and we all came away with a completed Kintsugi bowl. I’d taken a couple of broken items, a jug which I repaired with Lucy’s help and a large dish which she told me how to repair at home. So I very happily came away with a bowl, my repaired jug and the knowledge to be able to repair the dish. She even sold kits with everything, so no struggling to find the right tools and materials for your next project. "

Shab reviewed: Painting classes and workshops with Kate Freeman

"I recently had the joy of attending a half-day art class with Kate at her beautiful studio, it was such a nourishing experience. We worked with different pencils, brushes and paints. As someone who doesn’t paint often, I felt completely at ease and inspired. Kate creates an atmosphere that is warm, welcoming, and gently encouraging. A space where everyone’s creativity feels valued. The class was so well-paced, with plenty of time to play, experiment, and have fun with colours and brushstrokes. I came away feeling both calm and alive, and so grateful to have spent this time reconnecting with my creative self. If you’re looking for a class that feels spacious, supportive, and truly uplifting, I can’t recommend it enough."

Coach House Studio responded:

"Thats wonderful Shab, I'm so glad you had such an enriching experience. You made some fabulous drawings - it was a very rewarding session for me too!"

"I booked this as a birthday gift for my dad to attend with him and what a wonderful day we had. Hannah was so friendly and welcoming when we arrived and you could tell from the off how experienced and knowledgeable she was not just in staff making, but a wide variety of bush courses. My dad absolutely loved it, as did I & we had such a lovely time together and with the other “students” on the course. When looking for another “experience” or course gift, I’d be sure to look at Hannah’s other available courses as based off the staff making, it would be fabulous! "
