Jane reviewed: Half day on the Pottery wheel

"Overall the half day throwing course was brilliant. Thoroughly enjoyed it. My only, hopefully constructive criticism is that, given the cost for 4 hours (a) it would have been nice to be offered refreshments at the beginning while the course leader was talking about different clays and glazes and firing temperatures, but nothing was offered until half way through the half day, and (b) there was a lot of information to take in....an information sheet/handout would have been very useful. Having said all that, the actual teaching in how to throw a pot was excellent."

"If I could give 10 āļø I would. The course was absolutely brilliant. Laura was an enthusiastic, friendly, patient tutor and the studio is a delight to work in. I have no experience in any sort of painting but this didn’t matter in the slightest. It was well worth the money and I’ve already booked onto another course. I LOVED IT. "

Laura Donaldson responded:

Frances Gwilliams reviewed: Kiln Formed Glass Course: 1 to 1

"Dear Ewa I was very nervous about coming over to Harlow for my glass workshop. I had the BEST day!!! You made me feel very welcome with my first cup of tea. I wasn't sure what to expect as the information my Husband gave me was pictures and a title 'Kiln Fused Glass Workshop'. No written information. You showed me all the different things that it was possible to make and explained how to build up the picture/design I had in my head. I didn't have any specific ideas, my pictures evolved as I tried different ways to put on the glass what was in my mind. I didn't realise that I would be making three pieces to take home. My confidence grew with each piece of glass I decorated. The option to choose different methods to enhance the end result was amazing. I cant wait to see the end result when my work comes out of the kiln! I am looking forward to putting my glass art on display around my home. Thankyou Ewa for making feel so welcome. Your patience and guidance was much appreciated. We greeted as strangers, but left as friends Kind regards Fran "

Alex reviewed: Beginners 1-day 1-2-1 woodturning workshop for 1 person

"I thoroughly enjoyed my day with Simon and I came away buzzing with enthusiasm for wood turning. I had already tried a few bowls on my own by following YouTube videos but was very aware I needed some more hands on instruction. Simon was brilliant at providing the sort of practical guidance you can't get from just watching someone else turn. He was also really good at explaining the 'why', helping me understand the theory so I could see why cutting in one direction would give a smooth finish, while the other leads to tearing. He sent me away with newly sharpened gouges and lots of practical advice on tools and materials which has already led to some Axminster purchases (you should be on commission Simon!) On top of that he's very easy to get on with - I enjoyed good company, was well supplied with refreshments and a very nice lunch. It was such a shame to go back to work the following day :-) Thank you Simon."

Blended Monkey - pottery - woodturning - green woodworking - pole lathe - throwing responded:

"Hi Alex, So glad you enjoyed the day and got so much out of it - it’s always nice to hear that another woodturner has joined the community! As ever, any questions you have, please get in touch and I’ll help if I can. Happy turning! — Simon"
