What is the Weaving Artisan Workshop?

The Gower Heritage Centre holds exclusive Artisan Workshop in our Traditional Woollen Mill. Spending the amount of days of your choosing with a tailored experience just for you. Your Woollen Mill workshop day will begin at 10.30 am with a break for lunch in our tea rooms at 12 pm – 12.45 pm [included in your package deal] beginning again after lunch and ending at 3pm. (Times can be altered to your preference if needed, please state on booking) All materials are included in the package.

What's included in the price?

Your experience is completely tailored to your preferences. Our set schedules are for customers who would like to try everything we offer in a short amount of time, and can be altered.
Although every workshop will begin with a introduction, briefing and a tour of the Heritage Centre so you can understand your surroundings and the history behind the workings and survival of our Woollen Mill.

Aims and Objectives:
Our aims will be to teach you the traditional and more modern methods of the processes we use in the Woollen Mill on a daily basis to create various products, to better your knowledge and understanding of the textile industry as a whole. And to give you the chance to create your very own piece of cloth from beginning to end.

10.30 am: Introduction and tour
11 am: Preparation of wool - Washing and wool Identification
11.30 am: Carding (Paddle and Industrially) – Making Rolags
11.45 am: Spinning (Drop spindles and Wheel)
12.30 : Lunch (In the Tearooms)
1pm: Back to the Woollen Mill – Remove spun wool from spindles and put on bobbins for weaving
1.15 pm: Explanation of looms and weaving methods
1.30 pm: Weaving (On pedal loom)
3 pm: Session end.

Why not extend your course and have a short break in our self catering accommodation.We have accommodation on site which sleeps from 2 to 10 and is only a 20 minute walk from the spectacular Three Cliffs Bay.
