Opening 25 Aug. 2-metre distancing and smaller groups.
Weave your own colourful piece of cloth suitable for a Cafetier Cosy or other small project of your choice. Experiment with pattern, colour and texture and let your imagination run wild! Depending on your progress, you could also make a matching set of mats. Finish your woven fabric by knotting the ends to create an attractive edge and complete your cafetier cosy with a button and loop or Velcro.
This course is a great introduction to weaving and is suitable for beginners as the table looms will be already set up for you. There is a follow up course in Sept which is suitable for those with some experience.
Ali Sharman learned to weave with Laura Rosenzweig of Laura’s Loom and later went on to complete the Master Class Programme with renowned weave designer Janet Phillips. Ali is a resident maker at Farfield Arts and Craft Heritage Centre near
Sedbergh in Cumbria. She specialises in hand-woven tweed and also commissions short runs from a mill in the Borders. She is passionate about British yarn - especially that derived from northern flocks, and is on a mission along with many others in this region, to raise its profile. She exhibits locally and nationally and you can also find her at various local events demonstrating with the Lancs & Lakes Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers, which she chaired from 2016-2018.
This workshop will be at Cowshed Creative, based in a converted Lakeland barn on our traditional family Farm. The art studio is a stunning open plan space with plenty of room to wander outside and take inspiration from the amazing Lakeland landscape and environment of the peaceful Kentmere valley. Make it a special break and stay in one of our luxury camping pods on the farm. Check out our website for details.
All our tutors are carefully selected professionals and experts with extensive teaching experience. Whilst this is a relatively new venture, George, who has set up Cowshed Creative, has many years of experience programming and running creative courses at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal and for Cumbria Adult Education.
