Duration: One day
at Cowshed Creative (Kentmere Farm Pods and Creative Courses)
About the Course
Let the local environment spark your imagination. Using traditional jewellery techniques, create an original pendant or earrings inspired by water patterns or movement, plants and flowers or local wildlife.
Develop your skills with saw piercing, doming, hammering, texturing, soldering and finishing to create a unique piece of contemporary jewellery. You are welcome to take photos, make sketches and gather textures on the farm to inspire your work or imprint into your designs. There is a stream and river nearby. This workshop is perfect for complete beginners and those with some experience.
Jo Dix is a designer-maker based in Milnthorpe where she has a retail shop and workshop. Qualified as a secondary school teacher in the mists of time, Jo has made jewellery for 20 years, and made it her career 15 years ago when she moved to Cumbria. Jo works predominantly in silver and gold, although she also creates fused glass jewellery when she has time. Most of her business is commission based, but being passionate about learning and sharing her knowledge, it is no surprise that she has also been teaching jewellery making since 2005 and is an inspirational teacher.
This workshop will be at Cowshed Creative, based in a traditional converted Lakeland barn at Browfoot Farm. The art studio is a stunning open plan space with plenty of room to wander outside and take inspiration from the amazing Lakeland landscape and environment of the peaceful Kentmere valley. Make it a special break and stay on the farm.
All our tutors are carefully selected professionals and experts with extensive teaching experience. Whilst this is a new venture, George, who has set up Cowshed Creative, has many years of experience programming and running creative courses at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal and for Cumbria Adult Education.
