About the Course

Feel like dusting off that sewing machine again? Is it a long time since you made something for yourself? This is an achievable and fun project to get back into sewing and all materials are included in the price!

This bag was created out of that frustrated feeling when bottles fall over in a regular shopping bag and clink as you walk along. The divider and light padding in this bag avoids this problem and is a more stylish option for parties!

You will make a wine bag in an evening at my cosy studio (6.30pm - 10pm) on the advertised date or, would be perfect for a party or 'hen do' as a private party booking.

The studio is situated in the historic Via Gellia Mill (where Viyella originates!) in beautiful surroundings. When all is quiet you can hear the gentle sounds of the weir and birds outside.

This bag has a firm central section so that the bottles don't fall over or clink together and is large enough to carry two wine bottles or one wine bottle plus a glass/mixer or bunch of flowers - ideal for taking to BBQs, parties or camping. Would also make a fun gift!

The bag can be personalised with your own quote or you can use the quote provided 'wine flies when you're having fun!'

You will learn how to make the bag from a wide choice of prepared fabric which has been cut out and ready to sew.

You will be welcomed by me, Lou James, your tutor and you will have your own workspace and sewing machine. I have been running classes such as this since 2015 and have a background in teaching adults.

The class is limited to 8 people so that you can get lots of support. I will put you at ease and guide you through sewing the bag, together with the rest of the group. The atmosphere is friendly and supportive.

You will:

Get lots of practice and support using a sewing machine
A full kit - you only have to bring yourself!
Learn how to make a gusseted bag
Learn how to make a structured lining
Walk away with your completed bag to show off!

Please note that there is disabled access with toilets on the same floor but no disabled toilet. Please discuss your requirements with me before booking if you have any concerns and I will help as much as I can.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

What's included in the price?

A complete kit with everything needed to make the bag (including fabric cut and ready to sew).
A choice of outer fabrics and 'quote'.
Use of sewing machine and all equipment/haberdashery needed.
A wide range of refreshments including fruit teas and coffee machine.
A choice of delicious homemade cake (please advise of any dietary requirements)

I was a complete sewing machine novice until I came on my first sewneedadrink course 6 months ago. Lou is fantastic, calm, patient and above all, she has given me a love of sewing! I’ve tried a variety of her courses, including making a skirt that I wear regularly. I’ve even brought my 8 year old to her family learning sessions and she now has a sewing machine too. Don’t hesitate to book a place on a course!

Response from Sew Need a Drink:

Thank you so much for your kind and lovely review.

Lou is a fabulous, helpful, encouraging teacher. I have done a few courses now and have grown in confidence as Louise knows how to get the best from even the most nervous or rusty of sewers. Her projects are creative and use fabulous fabrics and of course there is the all important cake!!! Homemade of course!! I would highly recommend.

Thank you so much for your lovely review x See you again soon.

I made the bottle carrier. I was going to give it to a friend but I like it too much so I've kept it!

Ha ha! Thank you for your lovely review!

I haven’t completed this particular course but I been to plenty of Louise’s other courses and I can totally recommend them. There’s cake, nice people, great projects and lovely Lou on hand to help.. it’s all you need for a great few hours of sewing. I actually made something too... it’s a studio of wonders and must visit if you are thinking of learning to sew, need a refresher course or just want to sew in the good company of others. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Thank you for your lovely review Hayley....looking forward to seeing you at your next class :)

After I lost my husband I found my evenings long and needed to find a hobby that fitted in with my 3 children and that I could enjoy perhaps every couple of months. This is where Lou comes in!
I've completed a range of workshops with Lou and they have all been fantastic! Simple instructions for someone who has never sewn before or has a little more experience, lots of encouragement and guidance, a super friendly atmosphere with fabulous cake and coffee, you go away with a completed project and a night out! I am now completing projects at home and have a hobby I really enjoy. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Sew Need a Drink! I'm looking forward to a workshop later this month.

Thank you for your lovely review Kate :) Looking forward to seeing you again soon!

I love Louise’s courses. I haven’t done the wine bag, but made a number of other items. The session is so enjoyable and I come away with something I have made myself.
Louise is a very good tutor, and always there to help. I met some lovely people, and there was cake to eat! I recommend Louise's classes for those who have not used a machine to those with experience.

Response from Sew Need a Drink:

Thank you for your review and amazing feedback. So pleased to hear that you have enjoyed the classes!

Sew Need a Drink courses are brilliant. I dabbled in sewing when I was younger and made some of the kids clothes and curtains etc but hadn't done anything for years. The course gave me the confidence to have another go; I made some Xmas presents and things for the house. Looking forward to the 2019 new list of courses!!

I love my wine bag so much I didnt want to give it away as a present like I planned! I can't praise Sew Need a Drink workshops enough. Lou is an excellent, patient and encouraging teacher. The classes feel supportive and friendly, and there is delicious cake. You come away with a wonderful finished project which make great gifts (for myself in my case!). And there's cake! I was a complete novice before I started coming to these workshops, and I would never have imagined I could make such lovely things myself. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Sew Need a Drink to anyone wanting to give sewing a go. Did I mention the cake?
