This course is suitable for beginners but is also a great follow up for students who have already attended one of our shorter courses.
The course will begin with students learning the basic leather skills (or refreshing your memory of them) by firstly learning and practicing how to hand stitch leather. You will learn marking out, choosing appropriate leather, hand saddle stitching and raw edge finishing.
Following this everyone will make one small unlined leather backpack each. You will work from a prepared pattern so everyone's bags will be the same size and shape, however you can choose from our leather to have your own bespoke colour combinations and make small alterations such as changing stitch colour, choosing the buckles, etc. so your finished bag will be unique to you.
Course runs from 10am– 5pm. Complimentary tea and coffee and a light lunch are included in the price.
Please note the course will only run if there are a minimum of 4 participants. There will be a maximum of 6 participants.
All leather courses are run from our spacious workshop based in a converted 1850’s school, what better place to learn a new skill? Group courses have a maximum of 6 students so each person receives plenty of individual tuition. All courses are run by Sarah Williams, who has experience of working in the leather goods industry as a designer and sample maker and now runs small leather goods label Williams Handmade as well as teaching leather skills in Universities. All courses are designed so that you can take away your new skills and continue to make more leather goods at home. Sarah aims to make all courses both informative and enjoyable in a relaxed, friendly and productive atmosphere.

This is an excellent workshop - both fun and informative. Sarah is encouraging and nothing is too much trouble. She guides you through the process every step of the way in her beautiful studio and just seeing the work she produces and the wonderful coloured leather is inspiring. I came away with a fantastic two coloured business card case which has been well used and gathered many compliments.
I would thoroughly recommend this course to anyone whatever your ability - you will have fun in beautiful surroundings whilst gaining a new skill from an amazing practitioner
I attended the two taster leather course and would give it a 10 out of 10! Sarah was really patient and taught us at the right pace for everyone. I couldn't think of anyway in which this course could be improved. I had a wonderful morning and feel like I have found my "thing". Thank You!
I had a wonderful time learning a new skill in the old school workshop, Sarah explained everything slowly and in an easy to understand manner which mean't that it was easy to retain.
The building was a beautiful old school with a modern clean airy feel and lots of space.
I would recommend the course and Sarah as a tutor to anyone wishing to pick a new skill in leather-work.
Also a big plus is, i came away with a nice hand made coin holder.
