A one day workshop learning the gentle craft of weaving with rush. You will take home a sweet and useful little square rush bag.
To make this lovely little rush bag we will be working off a wooden block and using check weave, waling, pairing, a simple rod border and twisted handles. The finished dimensions will be roughly 180mm W x 200 H x 50mm D. The rush will be from the Somerset Levels.
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and if you have done some rush weaving before you may be able to experiment more with the design.
Jane will gently guide you through the process and you will be able to weave your own beautiful and bespoke rush bag to take home.
Rush is a wonderful material to weave with as it is softer and much gentler on the hands than willow.
We will be using rush harvested, from this year’s rush harvest in Somerset, only a few weeks before the course.
All tools and materials provided. Please wear warm old clothing.
