About the Course

Join Green Fig Soap Studio to learn the magic, chemistry and art of soapmaking and create your very own luxurious, natural, vegan soaps to use at home, give as gifts, or even to start your own small business.

Green Fig's mission is to make everyday luxury accessible to everyone - that's why we're teaching you to make your own, one bar at a time.

You’ll learn everything you need to know to make soap in your own kitchen, using many of the ingredients you probably already have there.

When you arrive you’ll be welcomed by Lily and meet the other attendees.

You’ll get a brief insight into the weird and wonderful history of soap making, before we talk through the safety aspects of the class.

Next you’ll get to explore the ingredients themselves, discover their individual properties and learn how they each affect the finished soap. You can get hands-on at this point, and touch and smell the beautiful natural ingredients that will go into your soap.

Then it’s the demonstration. You’ll see exactly how it’s done as Lily makes a loaf of soap while you watch, taking you through each step. We keep classes small to make sure that everyone gets individual time and there’s plenty of time to ask questions.

Next it’s time for you to don your gloves and aprons and make your very first batch of cold process soap. Lily will be there throughout, if you need help recognising trace, or you want some advice on swirling techniques.

Feeling creative? You can choose your own blend of essential oils, natural colours and botanicals from our stocks.

Prefer some guidance? Lily can suggest combinations of scents that work really well together - there's something for everyone!

Once your first batch is safely in its mold you’ll stop for a break and a chat about what you've learned and what you'd like to do differently on your next batch.

Then it’s straight back to the workshop to make your second batch. As with the first you’ll choose your own essential oils, micas (natural colours), and dried botanicals for decoration, to make a truly unique soap that is 100% yours.

At Green Fig we take the environment as seriously as we take your skin - we only ever use natural ingredients, no SLS, no parabens, no synthetic fragrance oils or colours - absolutely nothing nasty. We are also striving for zero waste, so we reuse, reduce and recycle wherever we can.

You’ll take the Green Fig recipe home with you so that you can carry on soaping – and of course you get to keep your precious home made soaps (we’ll give you all the information you need to cut and cure them at home).

If you like we can provide a kit to take home with everything you need ready weighed and measured to get soaping in your own kitchen – that way you don’t need to wait for orders or buy in bulk when you’re all fired up.

Your kit will include everything you need to make 4 more batches – more than enough to keep your bathroom well stocked and provide gifts for all your friends and family! If you'd like a kit to take home just let us know when you book your place.

It was so helpful to have a knowledgeable practitioner like Lily lead us through the alchemy that is soap-making. I can't wait to be able to try the 2 types of soap that I made - and to start ordering some materials to have a go at home.

I really enjoyed the course :) Lily knows her stuff and will assist with any questions and was ready to help out at any time. I would recommend this to others who would like to try but have not got the knowledge required to kick start a new hobby. I also met some other wonderful enthusiastic people too. The venue was light and spacious and I didn’t feel rushed to complete the course. Lunch and coffee hit the spot too, plus you get to take home 2 different soaps which I can't wait to try.
Thank you Lily :)

Really enjoyed the soap making course - exceeded expectations. Lily was really knowledgable and we came home with lots of soap and ideas for trying again at home. Would definitely recommend.

I attended this course with no prior knowledge of cold press soap making techniques but Lily explained everything so well the process seemed easy ... although I’m yet to try it on my own!

Lily made the course enjoyable and was happy to answer any questions as well as being really supportive of our ideas for the soaps we were making and any intentions for future makes - she is not at all precious about her knowledge.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this course to anyone with any interest in soap making or who just enjoy learning new skills.

Thanks for a great day!

Can't recommend this course highly enough. When we arrived we got a warm welcome, a cuppa and some delicious cakes. Lily gave us a great introduction to the history of soap making, then showed us how the process works, after which we got to dive in and make our own soaps. There was a great selection of natural scents, colours and things to decorate our bars with. My soap is currently curing in a cupboard and every time I open it there is this gorgeous smell. I can't wait to use it! I'll definitely book again and bring a friend.

I really enjoyed the Green Fig course with Lily, who really knows a lot about soap making! I enjoyed learning how people made soap in the past as well as the chemistry behind it. I had great fun with combining colours and smells and who knew there were so many ways to decorate soap? Lily is full of ideas for different techniques and I’m loving seeing pictures of how each of the bars have turned out, so different, so tasty looking! I’d definitely like to do the advanced course and try different combinations and techniques, I’m hooked.
