About the Course
This workshop introduces you to the skills required to make a mosaic using slate. You will learn about which substrates and adhesives to use, different ways of preparing slate for use in a mosaic, and the variety of ways in which slate can be laid within a mosaic.
During the workshop you will make your own mosaic from slate, choosing from a range of materials provided by the instructor. This will include different types of slate as well as some glass to add in as highlights.
No previous experience of mosaics is needed. This workshop is suitable for complete beginners, as well as those who have some experience but want to try using slate.
The class is limited to 4 students, so you can be sure of plenty of individual attention from the instructor.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
All materials and use of tools are included in the workshop. There will be light refreshments available.

I thoroughly enjoyed the mosaic course. Rachel was a very generous tutor both with her materials and her knowledge. There was an amazing range of materials available to us, I could have spent the whole 3 hours just choosing nice pieces to use! Went home very happy with my mosaic and I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to try it.

This was my first time working with mosaics, and I loved it - the slate is so beautiful and I had no idea there were so many varieties of it. The conservatory was a great place to be working in, with so much natural light, and Rachel is an excellent teacher and very informative and encouraging. I enjoyed the session a great deal and am sure I'll do more of this.
Beth Threlfall - - #24258
Good workspace and nicely paced introduction to slate mosaic techniques. I thought the amount of information was spot on and also the unobtrusive help without forcing any ideas, so we were able to progress in our own way. I'm pleased with what I learned and actually made and I am keen to now tackle a larger piece on my own.

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed this course. Rachel was very welcoming and gave as much or as little direction as each individual required. She is very knowledgeable about where all the different kinds of slate available came from. We were both delighted with the work we produced and can't wait to have it hanging up at home.

I really enjoyed your workshop today . Very informative but relaxed atmosphere . I felt I was able to learn the whole process more or less what to do to complete a piece of artwork . And can carry on at home experimenting . Very addictive . And pleased with what I produced.

Thoroughly enjoyed the course, learned so much and came away with a piece of work I am really quite proud of. Has definitely inspired me to have a go at home. Rachel is a lovely host and tutor. Everything was ready for us and a wonderful choice of materials to use. Extremely good value and I have already recommended it to several friends. Hope to attend again.

Thoroughly enjoyed this course - Rachel is an excellent teacher! I did a full day course and brought my 14 year old niece along - as a measure of how good the course was, this is the longest I've seen my niece without a phone in her hand in ages! She loved it! Great to have a course that is suitable for a mix of ages and abilities. The full day offered great flexibility to be able to experiment with different materials, colours and techniques, and to make multiple pieces. Excellent value for money (and lovely lunch too!). This was my first experience of mosaic work, and I'd thoroughly recommend this course.

I really enjoyed this workshop. Everthing required was supplied from tools and materials to excellent tuition. I’ve put my name down for another days workshop in May. Even though this was my first time working with slate and tiles, I’m really pleased with my mosaic and I can now plan my next piece. X K

This was my second workshop, because I enjoyed the first so much! Rachel is a knowledgeable and patient teacher, and taught and supported the skills needed for all participants to try out different techniques and leave with a beautiful mosaic. There were a huge range of materials available, and the workshop is in a lovely setting, surrounded by beautiful examples of Rachel’s own work for inspiration and examples. Cups of tea and homemade cake were a bonus!
