Description
I am City & Guilds trained and qualified in soft furnishing making and hold Level 3 Award in Adult Education & Training. I will teach you how to make a machine made Roman blind to a professional standard. This workshop teaches a simple method of construction, using commercial rod pocket tapes attached to the back of the blind. It is suitable for students of all abilities, however, you would need to know the very basics of using a sewing machine or, attend my one-to-one beginner class – “Getting to know your sewing machine”, this can be done on the same day, prior to the blind course. You will learn how to: Measure your windows inside or outside of the recess; correct pattern placement of your fabric; cut out precisely; attach linings; attach blind rod tape; attach breakaway clips; string your blinds and attach them to your hanging system. We will discuss the various hanging options, including traditional wooden batten or manufactured headrails. We will also thoroughly discuss the Child Safety Regulations and ensure your blinds are made to be compliant. You will learn how to construct a blind, both with a standard fold, where all the pleats stack neatly on top of each other and, learn how to set them so that they cascade, known as a waterfall effect. Although I will teach you how to calculate your pleats manually, I have devised a Roman blind calculator which eliminates all the complicated maths necessary when working out your rod tape placement. You will be given permanent, free access to this. (Requires Excel or compatible software.) You will make a sample size interlined Roman blind, which will include all the techniques required when making and hanging full size blinds. Your sample will become a valuable reference tool when you come to make your own blinds. You will also be given comprehensive notes with step by step instructions. I love to share my knowledge and I am happy to answer all your questions throughout the day, or, if you are struggling with anything after the class, you only need to contact me and I will do my best to assist. The class will commence at 10am and finish around 1.30pm.
