Description

Keum Boo is an ancient Korean gilding technique, where you apply thin sheets of 24kt gold to silver to make silver-gilt. Keum Boo literally translates as attached gold. As well as creating beautiful effects on your jewellery Keum Boo has the added benefit of being a more cost effective way to add gold to your work. You can use the gold sheet to add decoration, and patterns to your work. The technique involves heating and pickling the silver several times in a process known as depletition guilding, this brings a layer of fine silver to the surface of the sterling silver. The foil is then heated to fuse it to the metal. Once you have learnt all the techniques you will be able to take home your own unique piece of Keum Boo. During the day, you will learn: Cutting Annealing Texturing Keum Boo
