This one-day workshop from Christine Johnson will introduce the ancient Korean art of Keum Boo. Learn the technique of attaching thin sheets of 24k gold foil to silver. During the day, you will use this technique to create a beautiful piece of jewellery, such as a pendant or a pair of earrings.
The workshop is suitable for those who have some previous experience of making jewellery and would like to extend their skills to include Keum Boo. Beginners will be guided through the steps involved in creating a Keum Boo piece, which can be made into a pendant or other simple piece of jewellery. Jewellery making involves a lot of fine work so having steady hands will help.
All tools are provided. Please bring a pencil and small sketchbook or notepad. Please also bring an apron and wear old clothes.
It is very important that you wear sensible closed shoes, and long hair should be tied back in the jewellery studio. Please also remember to bring glasses for close work, if you need them.
Materials can be purchased from your tutor on the day. Please allow a budget of between £30-£50 for your gold and silver, depending on how much you need for your project.
Guidance will be given on suppliers of materials and the tools needed for you to continue to work with Keum Boo after the course.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 8 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
All tools, and equipment is provided. Lunch is included.
