New - Inspired by Tiles : Two colour lino cutting and printing in Hampshire.

Lino cutting and printing is a very enjoyable process that can be explored at our kitchen tables and requires the minimum of specialist equipment. Many of us may remember creating our first lino cut during our Art lessons at secondary school. If you are looking to learn a new creative skill, but need a process that can be “picked up and put down” and fitted around a busy life, this may well be the technique you have been looking for.

A visit to the Birmingham City Art Gallery in the winter of 2018 to see the fine collection of Arts and Crafts ceramics proved to be the inspiration for this two colour Lino cutting and printing workshop; the colours, patterns and designs of the William de Morgan tiles were particularly impressive.

Join us in the Long Barn on Thursday 13th May 2021 and create your own lino cuts inspired by tiles; will it be ornate insects, mythical beasts, a floral image or a wild animal that inspire you?

We will cover developing ideas into designs, safe cutting techniques, alongside successful hand printing

This one day workshop will introduce you to two colour lino cutting and printing and, is a great opportunity for those who have created a number of one colour lino prints, to challenge themselves and extend their printing skills.
For those with no previous experience with lino cutting, you may wish to take your time and focus on developing the skills and understanding needed to create a one colour print. You may also wish to develop your ideas by printing onto coloured backgrounds and explore collage techniques. There will be a particular focus on how you may continue developing your skills in your own home.

We will be joined by artist and maker Liz Wellby, who lives and works on the edge of the Peak District in Derbyshire. With over 25 years experience teaching and tutoring, Liz will guide you through this addictive printing process, enabling you to create a range of outcomes that will be much admired by family and friends.

This workshop is suitable for a range of abilities and creative experiences. Places are limited to just 10.

Please bring along: an apron, A5 ideas based on tiles that inspire you that inspire you, an old magazine to transport wet work home and your lunch.

Social distancing measures will be in place, including providing individual work places, materials and equipment. Face coverings/masks will need to be worn for limited times during the day.
