Annette has an MA Hons in Fine Art Printmaking and has been teaching for 25 years. She runs a successful business with her artist partner Mike Fenton block printing bespoke lampshades, cushions and limited edition prints. She organises the bi-annual Print in Action festival in Diss run at designermakers21 and Diss Corn Hall. bringing in printmaking specialists to exhibit and demonstrate.
The 2 day printmaking course covers linocut and mixed media printing. Students get to print onto fabric - linen, cotton, satin etc., to create several cushion cover fronts or wall-hangings. A calico shopping bag and a blank medium-sized silk scarf are also included to block print onto, along with half a dozen blank greetings cards and sheets of paper.
Annette teaches only two students each time who receive lots of individual tuition, and have plenty of scope to create and print several variations of their print blocks within the allotted time.
The aspects that have most delighted the students have been exploring the different marks made by the carving and engraving tools, the range of imagery possible and how to ink creatively and colourfully.
Many have discovered 'jigsaw' linocuts for the first time and produced multi-coloured images using one print block. They have explored painterly stencil prints onto fabric too, experimenting with impressions of leaves, grasses feathers and lace etc., combined with block-printing of linocut motifs. Almost all students aim to purchase their own tools and materials to continue printing at home, which Annette gives guidance on plus suppliers lists.
Annette works in designermakers21, a busy crafts centre alongside other craftspeople and takes students on a tour of the other studios and galleries in the centre for inspiration.
These are great value courses run by a friendly encouraging tutor who is a professional printmaker.
Diss has a train station, bus depot and nearby car parks to the craft centre.

I hadn’t had chance to do any Lino print making since college so when searching to find a course that was comprehensive and informal I was pleased to find this course.
Annette the lady who runs the course is lovely and welcoming, with so much experience and a wealth of knowledge in print making and design I was able to discover my love of Lino printing all over again.
The course is structured over two days with just two students so you are able to have one to one tutoring. Annette takes you through all of the different tools, inks fabrics, her beautiful studio is like an Aladdin’s cave full of lovely material and textiles so she encourages you to try out as many different ideas as you like.
At the end of the two days you leave with your lovely creations wishing you had another two days!
We were so well looked after by Annette and I and the other student left buzzing full of ideas, I cannot recommend this course enough and I fully intend on booking myself on further courses.
