Inspired by Bloomsbury: exploring mixed media in Derbyshire.

Description

Join artist, teacher and maker Liz Wellby at The Slipper Studio, for a creative and relaxing day, with this new and exciting workshop. A mixed bunch of flowers in a favourite vase or jug is a simple pleasure and one that cheers; add a favourite ornament or two and you have a beautiful still life. Numerous artists, such as Emma Dunbar, Debbie George, Emily Maudey and Jo Aylward, create images exploring the pattern, shape and colour of floral images. However, the Bloomsbury artists, including Vanessa Bell, Roger Fry and Duncan Grant, are the ultimate influencers of this relaxed, domestic imagery. If you’re fortunate to have visited Charleston in East Sussex, the country house of Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, you’ll be aware of how colour, shape and pattern can be explored in a domestic setting and these images will be a significant influence on your workshop. This workshop is suitable for those with a range of creative experiences, looking to explore their collage, drawing and painting skills. They say a picture paints a thousand words, so please take a look at the workshop images to see what we’ll do. Liz will host the workshop at her home studio. The venue is beautifully presented, with handcrafted workbenches and a wood burner, with views down into the village. About the tutor Liz Wellby is a versatile and experienced artist, teacher and maker, with a particular interest in sculpture and printmaking.
