Free motion doodle swatches. If you've never tried free motion drawing on your sewing machine then let Kathleen show you how to turn your simple doddles into stylised swatches that can be used for cards, tags, book covers, modern art or even a calendar. This is the perfect day if you'd like to turn your drawings into stitch and push the boundaries and express yourself through stitch with your sewing machine. You will create your swatches using paint applied directly to fabric and once dry each swatch will house your doodles worked in a dramatic colour contrast to make them stand out. Learn how to work a scribbled pen effect around each swatch to present and finish your doodle. Fancy a smarter edge, then finish with a border of satin stitch. This is a fun class to find out about you and your sewing machine with expert guidance from Kathleen to help you capture your inner doodler! And if you're not yet a doodler, then don't panic as Kathleen has enough doodles to share to get you off to a good and start. And although Kathleen's samples are floral doodles, anything you can imagine can be doodled; perhaps a fish or a shell or even a cat. You will need a sewing machine with drop feed dogs, basic sewing supplies, your choice of threads and water soluble fleece. Detailed requirements will be emailed to you in advance of the class. Kathy has always been fascinated by crafts, spending her early childhood days making cards with her sister and then going on to be taught how to crochet and sew. This early fascination grew stronger and later in life, Kathy enrolled into college courses to push herself in embroidery and design. Kathy has since achieved City & Guilds part 1 & 2 in patchwork and quilting as well as parts 1 & 2 in embroidery, from this Kathy went on to an OCN Diploma in Textiles. Kathy's work is inspired by flowers and foliage, her main inspiration being her own garden. Machine stitching and outlining these shapes through layers of organza and other such fabrics to create a wide range of innovative 3D floral structures, fashion accessories, curtains and hangings. Kathy adds beads, wire work, and stump work to decorate and often a soldering iron is a necessity to finish off these pieces of work. Kathy tutors in several techniques including: hand embroidery, machine embroidery, goldwork, heat zapped mosaics, as well as modern art in various forms. There will be a break for lunch between approximately 12.30 and 13.30. There is a coffee shop on site "O for Coffee". Attendees at our classes are visited by coffee shop staff regularly throughout the day to take any orders. Anything consumed during your day is sold at 10% discount. As well as a large choice of hot and cold drinks, the menu comprises savoury choices including sandwiches, paninis, jacket potatoes and soups. For those with a sweet tooth, there is a selection of cakes and scones made in house with gluten free and vegan options.

If a pattern is available for the workshop and no refund is possible then Tudor Rose Patchwork will arrange for you to receive the pattern.
Patterns are not available for workshops that you have not attended or paid for.

Yes. We have a shop you can visit alongside our two classrooms and coffee shop. There is a huge selection of products for crafters: sewing, knitting, crochet, patchwork and quilting, mixed media, haberdashery, embroidery and so much more.
You will be emailed a requirements list in advance. You can buy everything you don't already have in our shop. We will always make clear anything that you need for the day that we don't sell so you have time to source elsewhere.

Upon arrival, park in the car park at the front of the shop. Unload your vehicle into your classroom. Staff will then advise you where to park your car for the day at the rear of the complex.
