About the Course

The class will begin at 9:30 am in the charming semi rural area overlooking Wentworth Village and Church. After the safety talk is out of the way we can begin the day by sitting down and designing your knife. I will guide you through the process to make sure you will leave with a fully functional, practical knife that you love. Once you are happy with the design we can start cutting the stock to size and begin the forging process.

I will guide you though the steps and demonstrate particular techniques to get the required design you want.
By dinner time we will have most of the knife rough forged and it will most likely need refining. Then we will move on to heat treat where I will talk you though how to properly harden and temper a knife.
Finally we will grind the knife then sharpen it to a razor sharp edge!
At the end of they day you will leave with a fully functional, beautiful piece of art that I hope you will treasure for ever!

The Tutor
The class will be taught by Connor Padgett. An award winning, locally renowned full time blacksmith who's main focus is on forging top quality tools for other blacksmiths and green woodworkers. With 6 years full time experience Connor has now devoted his time to passing his skills on to other people as well as allowing the general public to use his facilities and expertise to forge there own products, of there own design.

******Please not that if we do not get your knife forged in one day you are more than welcome to come back a second time free of charge, although I like to get done during one day.

Want to review this course?

The course was a fascinating hands-on insight into using a coal-fire forge, drawing out the shape and then putting on a handle and grinding the edge.

It is a working forge, with all the tools you would require. Only a few minutes from the Elsecar heritage centre.

It's a long day, expect to be busy throughout, but the experience was excellent. I would highly recommend it.
