Forge your own knife at Padgett Ironworks Blacksmiths

X

About the Course

The class will begin at 9:30 am in the charming semi rural area overlooking Wentworth Village and Church. After the safety talk is out of the way we can begin the day by sitting down and designing your knife. I will guide you through the process to make sure you will leave with a fully functional, practical knife that you love. Once you are happy with the design we can start cutting the stock to size and begin the forging process.

I will guide you though the steps and demonstrate particular techniques to get the required design you want.
By dinner time we will have most of the knife rough forged and it will most likely need refining. Then we will move on to heat treat where I will talk you though how to properly harden and temper a knife.
Finally we will grind the knife then sharpen it to a razor sharp edge!
At the end of they day you will leave with a fully functional, beautiful piece of art that I hope you will treasure for ever!

My partner had a cracking day forging his own knife. The blade turned out amazing and Connor was very knowledgeable and patient. I would definitely recommend his classes for people in the future.

What a fantastic experience, I couldn’t think of a better way to bond with my two boys! Playing with fire and making a knife (safely 😊)
Connor was a great, great teacher, a testament to his fantastic ability.
What a fabulous memory day made with my children, and they now have something that they can show their children to say, “Look what I made with my Dad”
Will definitely be returning when my youngest one is of the right age.

The course was a fascinating hands-on insight into using a coal-fire forge, drawing out the shape and then putting on a handle and grinding the edge.

It is a working forge, with all the tools you would require. Only a few minutes from the Elsecar heritage centre.

It's a long day, expect to be busy throughout, but the experience was excellent. I would highly recommend it.
