Let me guess: you've watched Forged in Fire, and now you want to have a go at making your own knife? "Will it cut?" Lets find out!
This course is perfect for anyone who would like to try their hand at Blacksmithing and Bladesmithing. You will learn the traditional techniques passed down through the ages for forging knives and many other edged tools, including forging, grinding, and heat treating to produce a blade that will stay sharp in use.
This one-day course is for one or two people to forge a single blade. If you'd like to attend as a pair and forge a blade each, two tickets will be required.
There is enough time to forge a blade with a maximum length of 6 inches. A kitchen knife is recommended and usually the most useful option for most people, as you can use it every day! Alternatively, you are welcome to bring with you ideas for the style of knife you'd like to make, including:
-Bush craft knife
... or anything else your imagination can conjure!
The Kerr Forge Blacksmith, Jon, will be alongside to help and advise at every step to ensure you take home a knife you are proud to use for a lifetime.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
All the tools and materials required to make your knife will be provided. At the end of the course, you will take home a knife and a basic handle which will require tempering in your home oven (instructions will be provided) and gluing into the handle (glue will be provided). (Alternatively, if you'd like to make a knife with a handle consisting of scales, this is possible and rivets will be provided).
Knives will be made from highly durable high carbon steel which will last a lifetime with proper care.
For an additional charge, pattern welded Damascus steel can be provided for an even more beautiful knife.
Soft drinks, tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.
For an additional charge, you can also choose to have lunch in the garden, where you can create-your-own pizza with a wide range of toppings, to be cooked in our wood-fired oven and enjoyed with a glass of wine or beer.
