Lampshade Making Workshop at Hawthorn Shades
Description
Come along to a relaxing morning making a contemporary style lampshade at one of my kitchen table workshops. You will make a 30cm diameter drum (cylinder) shade for ceiling pendant or lamp base. I will give a short demonstration and instructions on how to make a drum shade with a professional finish, and be on hand throughout with advice and tips. I have been making and selling lampshades for a number of years now and have developed skills and expertise which I will be able to share with you. No sewing skills are required. I need a minimum of 2 students to run a workshop, so if you are able to come along with a friend or two that is ideal. Maximum 3 students, so you will get lots of attention. I will demonstrate in my studio and set you on your projects in my kitchen, where there is a bit more space. If you are a person on your own wishing to come to a workshop, please message me and I can add you to a waiting list. All workshops run for approximately 3 hours with a coffee break and are a fun and friendly way to learn a new skill. You will leave with a finished lampshade that you can use and enjoy or gift to someone special. Also, I am considering adding an evening class or two (Tuesday or Wednesday) this summer, please message me if you would be interested in this. Thank you.
What's included in the price?
All you need to bring is approximately half a metre of cotton/linen fabric, nothing too thick or thin. (Standard cotton curtain fabric is good for a first lampshade). I can provide an array of cotton fabrics to choose from, £5/piece, payable on the day (but please note, these will not necessarily be fabrics that I use for my currently stocked lampshade sales). Tea, coffee and biscuits included, served in my cosy sitting room or cottage garden, weather dependant : )

Maker
Hi, I am Penny and I established Hawthorn Shades 5 years ago, producing quality, handmade lampshades to order, selling successfully through Etsy as well as my own website. I also take on commissions and make shades for interior designers and artisan lamp makers. I trained in art and textile design and worked as a woven textile designer (many years ago) before having my family. I have a keen interest in interior styling, and in more recent years have worked as a curtain and roman blind maker. Now I concentrate on making a wide variety of lampshades and work from my garden studio in rural Lincolnshire. I am inspired by nature, hedgerows, wild and garden flowers and this is reflected in the fabrics I choose to work with. I am pleased to be able to combine my creative ability with a passion for working with natural fabrics, good design, and colour to produce beautiful and useful home decor.
