Description
Welcome to Highfield Forge School of blacksmithing. In this course you get the opportunity to create your very own Damascus knife made in a traditional way under the expert eye of Artist Blacksmith/Bladesmith, Andy Smith. This is your chance to make a Damascus steel knife from a piece of random pattern Damascus steel. You will be provided with a piece of steel to make your knife or you can do my Damascus steel course and make your own steel to use. We will forge the knife out into shape (bushcraft type) using hammer and anvil. The blade will then be normalised to release stress from the forging process. Your knife blank will be cleaned up on the belt grinder then go onto my flat bed grinder to make sure of a nice flat and straight blade. The knife will be bevelled and the finished to 400 grit to get ready for hardening. Day 2 Your knife will have been tempered overnight ready for final clean up to get it ready to etch. We will make the handle and make sure everything fits nicely, then etch the blade to reveal the pattern, and glue the handle to the knife. This course is quite challenging but very rewarding and you get to leave the forge with your very own handmade knife. This course is open to all over the age of 18, runs over 2 days and is up to 6 hours long per day. No previous experience is necessary. Sturdy shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty are recommended (please no shorts). All PPE and equipment you will need is provided
