Course Start DatesSaturday 28th March 2020
About the Course
Held at the delightful craft rooms of Sew Lovely in the heart of beautiful Derbyshire this workshop is an ideal introduction to mosaic for beginners.
Learning the art of pique assiette you will create your own mosaic using broken china, mosaic tiles and reclaimed materials.
I will guide you though the process of nipping old china plates to create your own little work of art. During your time at the workshop you will learn:
• which surfaces are best to mosaic upon
• the challenges working with recycled materials and how to overcome them
• how to use tools to cut and shape
• how to grout
Included in the course is everything you need for the project including a MDF base, china, glue, other reclaimed materials and the use of my tools. Participants are welcome to bring their own china or embellishments to use if they so wish, it’s always nice to include something personal.
The mosaic glue has to be allowed to dry for 24 hours before grouting so there will be a demonstration at the end of the workshop of how to grout your piece and you will be given a bag of powdered grout along with instructions to take home to finish your artwork.
This workshop is intended for beginners and is run in small groups. No need to worry about how artistic you are the most important thing is to relax and have fun whilst learning something new.
Diane is an experienced tutor who has run workshops for a number of years. She is great at putting people at ease and making the most of your time together.

Did a workshop yesterday with Diane, we were designing outdoor mosaics. I had so much fun and learned so much. I feel confident that I could do this at home but I would love to come back and do another workshop.
I had a great time and I am really pleased with how my work turned out, with plenty of inspiration from Diane!
Diane lovely, supportive and really informative and I would recommend attending a workshop with her if you want to try something new or if you just want to get some ideas for your own hobby.

I attended a mosaic workshop with Diane a few weeks ago having met her at a craft fair and falling in love with her work.
The booking of the workshop was easy and the information sent through before the day was comprehensive and left me with no unanswered questions.
Everything about the workshop was excellent. Diane was so welcoming, friendly and keen to share her experience and knowledge with us. The venue was perfect, easy to find, plenty of parking and lots of space to work.
Diane was a great teacher, giving us confidence to have a go at something none of us had ever tried before and answering all our questions.
I had a fantastic day - everything exceeded expectations and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. In fact, I'd love to attend again and continue to practice my new skills!

I went to the workshop ran by Diane on Saturday 13th October. I have never done anything like this before and Diane explained things really well and you could ask her any question and she was more than happy to help. Diane was really welcoming and the whole course was relaxed, fun and interesting. I have got the bug and want to carry on experimenting with mosaics. I can’t recommend Diane and her course enough especially if you are a beginner like me.
