About the Course

Beach Huts
Come and learn how to use a sewing machine to create beautiful works of art which can be framed or incorporated into other craft projects. Local textile artist Heidi Meier will be taking you through the stages required to create your own ‘Beach Huts’ artwork.
You will learn how to use free-style machine embroidery to create a layered applique artwork. There will be plenty of time to watch and practice techniques to help you achieve your design and opportunities for you to try your own creative flair in a fun and supportive environment. Beginners will learn all the key techniques and more advanced students will get the opportunity to work on more complex designs if they wish. Heidi will provide a list of fabrics required and you’ll get to use a template during the sessions to build the basic design. Once finished, the artwork can be framed or used as a panel to incorporate into other craft projects such as cushions or bags.
Students will need to bring
Sewing machines capable of working freestyle (i.e. the ability for the feed dogs to be dropped).
Embroidery hoop (anything between 8-10 inches is ideal)
General sewing kit (pins, fabrics, scissors etc.).
Sketch pad or drawing paper plus pencil.
Small fabric stash (e.g. fabric for the sky, different shade for the sea, sand etc.).

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

I really enjoyed the two half-day workshops with Heidi. The pace was good and instruction very clear, with lots of design and technique ideas. Materials and equipment were excellent and the general atmosphere was friendly and fun. Tea and cake breaks were most welcome, as I am inclined to go for too long without a drink. I'd definitely consider a workshop with Heidi at The Butterfly Studio again.
