Myself and two good friends thoroughly enjoyed our day with Rosie.
Rosie's workshop was very well equipped, with a tool for everything and then some.
She guided us novices through the creation of our very individual pieces in a calm and supportive way, enabling us to complete our (some might say over ambitious) pieces in the day (be it a slightly longer day than planned).
It was great to get a chance to practise some of the processes used in silversmithing, and it's definitely inspired me to look into doing more in the future.
I can thoroughly recommend the course to anyone wanting to get a feel for the craft.
Response from The Brightsmiths Workshops:
Thank you KateWe had a wonderful day with Rosie at her workshop making some beautiful silver pieces. Rosie was creative, patience, friendly, knowledgable and very encouraging as we were both complete novices. We were delighted with the pieces we made and they will take centre stage on the mantle piece. It was a lovely way to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary !
Response from The Brightsmiths Workshops:
Dear Robin and NicolaI booked two days with Rosie in March 2019 and it was such an enjoyable experience that I booked another two days in May 2019. Being in Rosemary's workshop is a unique experience to work alongside one of the region's most talented and knowledgeable silversmiths. Over my four days I made two beautiful bowls - one in copper and the other in silver (this one with handles). Rosemary's knowledge about working the "bright metals" is vast and she is very generous in sharing it and her time. Nothing is too much trouble for her and she makes one feel very comfortable in her workshop.
Response from The Brightsmiths Workshops:
Dear AnitaI had a wonderful day with Rosie and came away with a silver ring I designed and made myself. Rosie took me through each process and explained everthing thoroughly, she was so generous with her amazing knowledge and her time. I learnt so much and hope to return in the future. I would recommend a day with Rosie she is an amazing lady.
I had a lovely and rewarding day at Brightsmiths Workshop which is located in a beautiful setting. Rosie is an excellent teacher and I learnt through a wonderful hands on experience which helps with retaining processes taught. She teaches amazing attention to detail and so the silver ring I made was so well finished. My husband was very impressed and tried hard to find a join- which of course he couldn't !! I really want to return to learn more skills and would fully recommend a day here to anyone who wants to learn this craft.
I booked a place for my wife on Rosie's one day workshop, to mark her 60th birthday. Sue was unsure about exactly what she wanted to make and a bit nervous about her jewelry making capabilities but she drew a few tentative designs of a geranium flower and thought she'd make some earrings .
We met Rosie at her workshop, she made Sue feel very welcome and chatted about her design ideas, deciding to use the bloom idea for a pendant with silver for the petals and copper for a central boss. Several silversmith skills were involved in this, Rosie showed Sue what to do and helped out where things needed and expert eye.
Sue greatly enjoyed her day, it was exceptionally good value. Rosie was a patient and supportive tutor. Sue now has a unique, lovely silver bloom pendant which she is very proud of.
Rosie's workshop is ideally located in the countryside if you're interested in wildlife, fishing, photography etc. there are lots of options available. There are several charming market towns to browse around within 30 mins, so I found plenty to do too.
