I am one of Lucy's longer-term students. Learning to work with metals and to create unique, handcrafted jewellery was an ambition I had long held, and Lucy has patiently helped me to realise that dream. I was excited by my first class and I continue to be enthused, inspired and challenged by her classes. She helps students develop our skills and stretch our expectations of our work, whilst keeping us grounded and practicing past learning alongside the new. The studio is a lovely place to be and I have some beautiful pieces of jewellery to show for my work and Lucy's guidance. My interest in buying jewellery is much reduced now I have the capability to make my own, but I appreciate the cost because I have a much clearer idea of the work and time involved in the manufacture.
I cannot sing loudly enough about Lucy's jewellery making classes. I have been attending a session a week for the last embarrassingly long time. This is because Lucy is highly skilled as a maker, and teacher. The fact that there is a maximum of 4 students per class has meant that she can pass on skills easily to a small group but can also tailor make projects according to the student's level. The environment is sunlit (even in the rain) and this is not only because of the ample windows but because of the general niceness of students. Needless to say the studio, which looks out to her garden on one side and to allotments on the other, is very well equipped.
I so enjoy my lessons. Lucy is a great teacher in terms of skills and techniques and lets me choose how I apply this to various projects and pieces I make. The workshop is really well equipped and it's fun working in a small group. I have made good friends with various students over the years.
I've done 2 'terms' and intend to keep going.
Lucy is top of her trade and I feel lucky to have stumbled across such a great teacher.
I cannot stress enough the brilliance of this course. The small class size means that learning is fast and you accomplish a lot in a small amount of time. Lucy's attentive and friendly teaching style in her warm and light studio is the perfect way to learn.
I have been attending Lucy's courses for almost a year and I love it. Lucy is very patient, very talented and helps you realise your vision - Thursday evenings is my self indulgent time and the highlight of the week.
Love, love, love it! X
I started with a beginners silversmithing course nearly 2 years ago and I am hooked. Lucy is a brilliant tutor. Calm, patient and with meticulous attention to detail. Her workshop/studio is light and airy and very well equipped. I cannot recommend Lucy and her courses highly enough.
I am on my second 10-week progression course with Lucy and I love it! She has lots great tools in her studio and each student has their own bench space. Lucy works at the pace of each student, so there are times when we are all working on something different. It means you learn from what other people are doing too which is great.
I have also recently completed one of Lucy's one-day course in Flush Setting. It was quite fiddly, but great fun.
If you have never had a go at making jewellery, Lucy is the perfect teacher. Just be warned it's slightly addictive!
This is my fourth year learning from Lucy. Her courses are thorough, build on skills learned and she makes learning fun in a bright, light, well equipped studio. She is patient and knowledgable and her gentle yet firm approach always ensures the learner feels encouraged and achieves their best results. I can't praise these courses highly enough!
I cannot recommend the course highly enough. Lucy is a great tutor who does an excellent job of sharing her knowledge and teaching silversmithing techniques. The studio is bright, comfortable and very well equipped.
