Sharon Bruce reviewed: From melting to money making - The business of candles - Online Course

"After having a break from making candles for over a year, I decided now was the time that I wanted to think about re-branding and starting up again. I came across this course and decided to give it a go. Although I did know a fair amount about candle making, it really helped with clarifying things and making more sense for me. I enjoyed the hour call with Jane, she was very professional and inspiring. I look forward to moving forward with my business with the added support of Jane I'm feeling more confident of it being a success and making my little dream business into reality."

The Candle Coach responded:

"Thank you for your kind words Sharon. I’m really looking forward to seeing your business grow and here to help you. Wishing you every success."

Heather Smith reviewed: Group Soap-making Workshop - Soapology Studio - Nottinghamshire

"I bought this course for my best friends birthday so we were both looking forward to it. First off, the studio is in a lovely setting. Unfortunately, the rest of the course was not a positive experience. During the soap making all the participants had to queue in a line to take turns to get all the ingredients and make the product. This was time consuming and lacking in space. We were closely supervised to ensure all measurements were accurate and the mixing process was done correctly. The finished products on both mine and my friends soaps were dreadful. All the soaps were covered in a white substance and there were holes throughout the soap bars . They all looked dreadful. If it was one batch I could have understood but it was all 4 batches from 2 different people. The soaps were much too unsightly to use. I did contact Soapology to request a partial refund but was refused. I was offered another place on a course but due to work commitments not able to attend. Despite this I feel the session would have proved uncomfortable. As the course states 'created her courses so that you can cut out the mistakes' I did not envisage a product unfit for purpose. Luckily, my friend and I have managed to make successful soaps after watching on line tuitions on You Tube."

Soapology Studio responded:

"Hi Heather, I am so sorry you felt strongly enough to leave this review. As you can see I have over 50 5* reviews on this course and more on my 121 courses. This is in fact the only negative comment in over 10 years and 400+ students. As I mentionned in our many emails after the course, the white powder you mention sounds like soda ash and is quite common in cp soapmaking, it is fully explained in the theory part of the course and in your course workbook. The holes you mention may be trapped air bubbles from mixing too vigorously which I pointed out at the time and advised you to stir slowly between using the stick blender to release the trapped air. In one of your emails to me you stated you had made a successful batch at home therefore I consider the course to be successful as you learnt the skills from me to then make your own soap (youtube waa never mentionned until now). As I said, the course is all about making mistakes whilst with me and I can correct them and offer guidance. I did offer for you to return on another course and bring your original 'faulty' soaps with you so that I could see them and try and work out what had happened. You declined. All of the other batches made on the day turned out wonderful along with my demonstration batch. Also, I have never seen the two batches your friend made nor have I heard from her since the course saying she was unhappy. I am devastated to have received this review but I guess the saying is true, you cant please everyone all the time. Good luck with your soapmaking journey Heather. Emma, Soapology Studio"

"This workshop was a birthday present for my wife. I could not have asked for a better experience. We made silver rings for each other. Beth Lazell reviewed: Shabby chic skills for beginners

"We did this one day course a while ago and still remember how good it was, especially in comparison to other courses people run for creative arts and crafts. We were welcomed, provided with drinks and health & safety was part of the day. A toilet was provided and you could wash your hands whenever you wished. Sadly this is not the case with all courses. The hosts were very friendly and good tutors too. Would thoroughly recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn, try things out and also be encouraged. We left feeling uplifted and positive, having had a most enjoyable and informative day."

Black Paw upcycle project responded:

"Hi Beth Thank you for the feed back. I'm so glad you enjoyed the day Scott"

Nancy Isabella McManus reviewed: Seaglass jewellery workshop at Sea & Solder, Dorset.

"Jules is one in a million! Having previously bought a one of a kind sterling silver Seaglass ring I was already in love with the work sea & solder was producing. Her customer service was 10/10, sufficiency, organisation, new equipment, extremely insightful and knowledge was flawless. I decided to book a session with my friend to do a stacking ring workshop for both our birthdays and it was the best present / activity we have both done in a long time. Our rings look beautiful, a well spent session we will definitely be booking on again and taking friends and family too! Thank you Jules so much"

Steve reviewed: Beginners' pastel painting workshop at fabulous Glasfryn Hall, North East Wales

"I wholeheartedly recommend this course. I had a really enjoyable day and learned so much in such a short space of time. Dave is an exceptionally talented artist and has the ability to share his methods in an easy and engaging way. The small group size meant there was plenty of opportunity for one-on-one tuition, questions and all materials were provided (and we were even given some to take away with us). The course was hosted in a stunning location with great views and plenty of art on the walls. An excellent lunch was provided and there was lots of tea and coffee on tap. 5 stars!"

Oriel Glasfryn Gallery Limited responded:

"Thank you Steve, for such a lovely review and I'm glad you enjoyed the day as much as I did. I'm delighted that you are thinking of furthering your art and that is definitely something you should do (IMHO). Dave"
