Martin Gray reviewed: Mastering Pen Making.

"What a fantastic day! Derek, and his assistant Beth, were so welcoming and friendly. Felt relaxed and at home. Derek is such an understanding tutor, and has the patience of a saint; he is always on hand to make sure that you do all the work yourself but will jump in and make sure you don't make any major mistakes that would ruin your work.. I found the whole day a relaxing and enjoyable experience, and I came away having made 2 beautiful pens that are unique and can be used every day. I can hold them and look at them and say 'I made this'. I will be going back for more, and will be doing the bowl turning day next. Cannot recommend this course, and the people that run it, highly enough. Worth every penny and more! Thank you so much Derek (& Beth). First class experience!!"

Assynt Pens responded:

"Thank you for your kind words Martin. I am delighted you enjoyed the day, and very well done on the two ‘Made by Martin’ pens! "

David reviewed: Axe making course

"Was a fun experience. In practice it takes longer than 4 hours to learn how to make an axe. However the course is setup so you get to learn the basics and still end up with a functioning tool. You have to shape the head of the axe whilst heated to 1000 celcius, quickly with a hammer, before it cools down too much. Andy explains everything and guides you through the trickier parts."

kristofer williamson reviewed: Blacksmithing day courses: making garden flowers

"I have been so many times I should live there! I have done all the courses they do. What you make can be a gift. Great day there, lovely food, all hand made and the cakes too. You just want to keep going. Nice tea and coffee. They know their stuff - all the dos and don'ts of this craft. They are there to help you get what you want out of it. He has been in this business a long long time. They know how to fix stuff on the fly if you do something the wrong way, or if you get too much heat and your work snaps off. They helpfully guide you onto the right path and show you step by step what you need to do. It's a safe place and, depending where you are from, it's fine to get to. Try this one thing in your life! You never know, you might love it and get one at home yourself if you've got space for it. Life goes so fast and you need live it. This is one the of best on here or even the top 1! If you like making things with your hands and hitting metal, seeing it transform in front your eyes, you will love, love this. All are great at talking to you. It's a very understanding place. "

H Mustafa reviewed: Bladesmithing Experience Day

"I booked this one day bladesmithing experience for myself and my 2 sons (12 & 14). The gents that run the course, Graham, David & Decklan are masters of their craft. After a health and safety briefing its on with a demo and before you know it you are heating your metal in the forge. My 14 yr old was able to work on his own blade whereas me and my 12 y old worked on one together. Its an excellent day of forging, hammering (make sure you choke it) shaping, grinding etc. You learn some interesting facts about metal along the way and the gents are always on hand to help out, tweak your technique and guide you towards making a decent blade. Lunch and refreshments were provided. All in all I would say this is an excellent experience day and would recommend. Thanks gents for excellent day. "

Clarke Knives responded:

"It was a real pleasure having you and the boys with us for a day. We enjoyed ourselves too 😂😂"
