You will create and forge a variety of large sculptural metal flowers to decorate your garden which will last all year round!
Once the fires are lit and the health and safety chat out of the way we will get straight down to the business of hammering some hot steel.
The day is fully hands-on and as well as learning the basic principles of blacksmithing, you will make two unique items to take home with you.
Techniques for tapering, hole punching, splitting and riveting will be covered.
The Forge workshop is situated in the rural outskirts of Yarm, between Darlington and Northallerton so is easily accessible from the A1 or A19.
Adrian Wood is a university graduate with a degree in fine art sculpture from The University of London. A chance visit to a forge gave Adrian Wood his first taste of blacksmithing. He recalls; ”From the first moment I hit the hot steel I knew what I wanted to do.”
Please note that due to our insurance restrictions we are not able to take any participants under the age of 18 years.

I was unsure what to expect as first, but the course was brilliant. The greeting was warm and friendly. When everyone arrived we were equipped with safety gear and given a short introduction to safety in the forge. Then we were into making the first item. Adrian gave an introduction to the techniques and steps needed to start and off you go. The staff are always on hand, attentive and willing to gently guide you with the current process. What seemed daunting at the start, faded into easy to replicate steps and I now have a snail key fob and a dragon coat rack. It's a superb course, with friendly people and you make something that initially seems out of reach given your inexperience. I'd highly recommend this to anyone who's thinking about it. Physical strength not needed but it can get a touch warm around the furnaces.
Fabulous day with 2 very approachable and knowledgeable blacksmiths and some scrumptious food to boot! Thankyou all for a super day
An absolutely great day from start to finish. We weren't sure what to expect as first timers but after a welcoming cup of tea and homemade biscuit we were thrown straight into the fire! Aiden and Andy were great mentors, super friendly, very patient and encouraging. Deborah's food was delicious and kept us well fed all day. Safe to say we all came away feeling very pleased with the hooks and keyrings we had made. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back.
Me and my partner went and we really enjoyed it. It was hands on from start to finish and the guys were very helpful when we needed it. Excellent for the price, came out with some new skills 👍
The two instructors were very good and equally patient.
The tools and all equipment plentiful.
What a wonderful lunch too.
It was a very nice 71st birthday present. Although the rest of the participants were considerably younger.
A good days work and learning. I arrived 10 minutes late which was annoying as I had driven past the place 20 mins earlier, perhaps a sign outside the entrance on course days might be an idea? Sat nav not much use! Adrian is obviously a highly skilled blacksmith and made the demos look so easy. I struggled a bit at times and would have liked perhaps some advice as to whether I was doing it right or not. I persevered and ended up with a key ring that doesn't look too bad but my coat hook bears no resemblance to a dragon, looks more like a hippo. Very tasty food and an interesting day
Thank you for a lovely day.
The atmosphere was relaxed and calm.
It started with a brew and biscuits, brief intro and the best and shortest safety talk I have had.
The demonstrations were quick and broken down into simple processes then off to the anvils and fires to get started.
It was a no fuss well timed series of exercises. Support always on hand with tips and hints to keep you on track.
We became a chatty group over a fabulous lunch that catered for even the biggest appetites.
The techniques were repeated in the afternoon to make larger products building on our prior knowledge.
Finishing with a lovely brew and huge slabs of cake.
Definitely recommend.
I have recently been on this course, Well what can I say, It was amazing, I enjoyed every moment of my experience, what a great gift! It’s so much better than getting a jumper for Christmas!
The guys were brilliant, chilled and supportive. Even when my dragon coat hook looks more like a dinosaur! 😂 My little boy loves it!
I will be booking again soon.
I must add the food and company ( the other participants) were great too!
Thank you so much! Adrian, Andy and Debbie
An Excellent course, learnt a great deal, left after making two items which I would never have believed I could at the start of the day.
One word of warning if you're on a diet you'll need to have lots of self control as the meal was very nice with very large portions.
Today I spent the day learning a bit about the heritage craft of blacksmithing - it was hard graft - but I turned a steel rod in to a trendy keyring and a steel bar in to a dragon (well, a coat hook). I didn’t think I would be able to manage it, with my lack of coordination and upper body strength, but with a little help from Ade and Andy, who were amazing teachers, I totally nailed it! Or, should I say, riveted it… l highly recommend checking out the courses, but be quick they get full fast! Food was lovely too thanks to Debbie - I am still stuffed after coffee and flapjack, then a lunch of chilli, jacket potato, breads from a local bakers, cheese from a local cheese shop, cake and custard - and then, as if that wasn’t enough, cake and tea before we left for home!
Excellent beginners course. Would definitely recommend.
Brilliant day, I really enjoyed it and learnt loads. The food was delicious and plentiful.
Would definitely recommend.
An amazing experience from start to finish. A warmbwelcome by Diane and delicious flapjack. Great tuition from Adrian and Andy, especially as I had never done this before they were encouraging and made it fool proof. The lunch was delicious and a great time to get to know the group. I would definately recommend booking on and having ago. It was well worth the journey, I came away feeling inspired and and thatbi had achieved something. Thank you all, I would love to return.
Really enjoyed the day - this was bought as a Christmas present after I expressed an interest in learning more about blacksmithing and I'm hooked!
Adrian and Andy were really good and helpful explaining what we were there to make, and showing us step by step through the process - I never thought I would be capable of producing items that looked so good as a beginner!
the pace of the day is perfect, at no point do you feel rushed and help and advice is always on hand (as is first aid if you manage to burn yourself like I did - turns out red hot metal burns if you touch it who knew?)
I will definitely be booking on to more courses in the future!
Well organised! Great fun! Extremely friendly! Would highly recommend!
Fantastic team running the course. Very hands on experience, lots of advice and help when required. Good group size, so everybody had the help they needed. I have a wonderful key ring and Coat-hooks to remember my hard work.
Absolutely amazing - a really relaxed, hands on course supported by a fantastic team. Well led, well fed and we all finished the day with a sense of accomplishment and our own handmade items to take home. A great course to learn the basics at your own pace, I will definitely be returning for some of the other courses. If you’ve always wondered what it would be like to move metal I can’t think of a better group of people to learn from! Thank you
Great day out with very friendly & highly knowledgeable instructors. Within the bounds of safety a very relaxed atmosphere prevailed.
Lunch was delicious - all home made.
Thanks for a providing a very enjoyable day!
Paul.
A great experience and insight into blacksmithing.
Adrian and Andy provided expert and skilled guidance throughout the day, while Debbie kept us all well fed with delicious home cooked food.
I would highly recommend this course.
Had a really fantastic day out on the course. The team were excellent, giving great demonstrations and were all incredibly helpful. Food throughout the day was top notch. Very proud of the two pieces I made. Loved the whole experience. Thanks!
A great day learning about blacksmithing. Adrian Andy and Debbie made us feel very welcome starting with a chat, coffee and flapjack. The practical part of the course was pitched perfectly. Adrian gave us demonstrations of what we were to do then we all had a go at our own pace with plenty of help and advice when needed. We all achieved a lot and learned a lot about the art of blacksmithing.
I would highly recommend the day and I will definitely book onto another course to learn more in the near future.
Great experiences, tutors were super friendly amd helpful. Food was top notch. All round great day, would definately do more courses.
This was an excellent course and was great fun. Delightfully hands on, and the required theory was brief yet highly engaging. I walked away with two handcrafted items with my own creative touch and a new set of skills that I look forwards applying again with confidence. The food was also topnotch.
Absolutely amazing course, what a blast! I arrived to a cheery welcome with mugs of tea/coffee and homemade treats and a chance to meet Debbie, Adrian and Andy - what a fab trio. The day was perfect - coffee and tea on tap and an incredible lunchtime spread of delicious homemade fare. Adrian is a superb teacher instilling a can-do attitude with well-paced instruction with boards showing the step by step construction stages for you to consult. Both Adrian and Andy were constantly on hand for support and advice and provided a relaxed and calm environment for learning and at no point did I feel out of my depth. I suggested the course should be prescribed on the NHS for mental health problems as the day fluctuated between periods of meditative contemplation, staring into the mesmerising glow of the furnace to complete hilarity at the non-stop banter between Adrian and Andy. I also recommend taking time out to chat to Adrian about his incredible metalwork creations, absolutely stunning! I can't wait for the Design and Make weekend................dreaming of being a blacksmith!
Brilliant experience, loved every minute of it. I make a lot of stuff and every craft has its own set of techniques and skills - no different here. The guys explained the techniques in an easy to understand manner and were always on hand to help if you went slightly adrift.
Great hosts, great craic and great food
I'll definitely be bac
Cheers guys for a excellent metal therapy day. Enjoyed getting close and personal with hot iron.
Learnt a lot about the technique of manipulating metal with a hammer and an Anvil.
Really enjoyed the experience of devouring a delicious crumble and custard in 30 secs.
Great day all round.
Very friendly and encouraging team. Good instruction and demonstrations given. Really keen to see all participants do well and tuition was excellent. Very supportive and made to feel very welcome. This was a very hands on experience and would be as close as you get to being a blacksmith. Lunch and refreshments throughout the day were outstanding and I could not fault anything. I will be back for sure!
Had a fantastic day with the team on the blacksmith experiment. Good mix of explaining what trying to achieve and the steps to get there and then letting you have a go and supporting when needed. Excellent food to sustain you through the day. I will be booking for another day.
i really enjoy the day. came away with something useful and found the guys really helpful
The lunch was very good
i would go another time
One day taster course was absolutely brilliant.
Really enjoyed the day, Adrian and Andy are a fantastic pair of lads, really helpful on the lead up to the day with information etc.
On the day gave brilliant instructions on how to make our objects. Plenty of tools to go round and ample space around the forge for safety.
Met by Debbie (who also made lunch) with a hot drink and biscuits.
Lunch was to die for, beautiful food.
Had a laugh with the others on the course and some joking with Adrian and Andy.
Nothing was too much trouble for them all.
I will be booking onto another course for next year. Already planning on making my own forge and have already purchased my air blower.
Recommend this course to anyone.
Brilliant day.
Thank you to you all.
Had such a great day with Ade, Andy and Debbie - so friendly and an experience I'll not forget in a hurry. Lovely welcome with hot drinks and homemade flapjacks. We were very well looked after by Ade and Andy when the forges were going, and then by Debbie at lunchtime and at the end of the day with delicious homemade cooking and amazing bakes. The whole experience was great, really good fun. The care and attention from all involved was second to none :-)
This was a present for my partner. He absolutely loved everything. The instructions were clear and help given throughout. He is already wanting to do another course. Highly recommend. Important to note though that you should not take any one else with you, I went with him but they don't recommend it.
Had the best day with you guys at the forge, my masterpiece has pride of place by the log burner, I'm well chuffed. Great tuition from Adrian and Andy, excellent food and AWESOME biscuits and cakes from Debbie. I would certainly recomnend this as a treat for anyone, no special skills required, all taught on the day.
Thanks again to the team, I really did enjoy it.

Had an absolutely wonderful day! So much fun and really satisfying. The lunch was insane and so delicious it was amazing.
Worth every penny : )
Great course , with great Hospitality . Would definitely Recommend to anyone who wants to try there hand at the craft !
I think this is my 5th course with Adrian and Andy. As always a fantastic day in the forge. Brought my brother with him for his 1st course and he absolutely loved it. Thankyou to Debbie for looking after us all day. The food was cracking and definitely been spoilt as always. I highly recommend all of the courses, I've definitely learned a lot and reaped the benefits. Looking forward to coming back soon!
What a great day out. Very well-thought-out course. Very chuffed with the 2 items I made that I will use at home, better than I thought they'd be. Techniques well taught, very friendly, food fantastic, great atmosphere, what more can I say. The only criticism I can make is that my son complained I hadn't made a sword.....
Fantastic day!! Just the right balance of information, guidance and freedom. Excellent tuition. Food and hospitality superb.
I'll definitely be going back!!
Great day, great teachers, would recommend.
Great day had by all. The teachers were very helpful and patient Food excellent
Thoroughly enjoyed the course. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend.
This is a really well run course. It was nicely paced with lots of individual tuition when needed and clear explanation of each stage. We came away with some lovely flowers and a huge feeling of achievement. Oh, and very full tummies because the food was amazing!
Welcomed on arrival by Adrian, Andy & Debbie.
An excellent and well explained course with assistance where needed to make a rams head poker.Tea, coffee & biscuits on arrival ,hot lunch , coffee & cake after work whats not to enjoy.
It was a beautifully sunny but cold day as I meandered through the beautiful English countryside to arrive at the working farm which housed the course. A very warm and friendly welcome with hot coffee available was a great way to start the day.
Adrian, Andy and Debbie welcomed the course and made sure that we were comfortable and suitably clad. Time was taken to explain what was going to happen on the course and what we were expected to achieve. We were then shown a beautiful rams head poker, a copy of which was our goal for the day.
There followed a practical demonstration of the first part. In my view, a great way to go. Small chunks at a time. Easier to follow and remember. We all worked at the same pace, each new part demonstrated prior to us having a go.
After the first demo, it was straight in and literally poker in the fire time.
They say that patience is a virtue. Adrian had this in spades. Clearly a very experienced Smith. He talked and demonstrated throughout the day, gentle hints here and there when we weren't quite getting it quite right.
Practical positive encouragement was the order of the day.
The break for lunch was welcomed, it's hot at the forge.
The food was outstanding, and lots of it, including local bread and cheeses which were wolfed by all.
The afternoon flew past, clearly everyone was enjoying themselves and at last we were done.
A sense of achievement, a feeling of happiness and altogether a great course.
I would highly recommend trying the course. I will be going back for another.
The ram's head poker course is an excellent course. Ade and Andy are excellent and very patient tutors. The poker I made will very useful for BBQs!
The catering was also excellent; with veggie chilli, jacket potatoes and local cheese and bread.
A thoroughly enjoyable day that I would definitely recommend.
Thank you
Really interesting, if hard work! Loads of help and instruction readily available. I came home with two lovely flowers on garden stakes and was extremely satisfied with the day. A very good 2-course home-cooked lunch was provided, thank you, Debbie! Not rushed to finish in good time either.
Deb and I came away to celebrate our milestone birthdays. We had a very exciting day making flowers. Ade and Andy were so helpful and patient with us ensuring that we came away with two wonderful flowers each. The lunch and refreshments were also lovely especially the homemade cake (thank you, Deb)
Came away after the two day design and build session with a creation for the garden thst exceeded my expectations - thanks to Adrian
I had been looking forward to this since booking in 2020. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Adrian is a very welcoming spirit and easy to talk to considering you are meeting for the first time. He is a great demonstrator and keeps you on track offering help when needed. There is no blinding you with unnecessary knowledge. My dragonhead coat hook looks more like a baldy dog, but I quite like those. My key ring and the coat hooks themselves are great. I would do that same course again for a bit more practice. I am certainly interested in one of the "Design & Make" weekend courses, so will have to save a little.
Debbie's welcoming, warm character and hearty food were lovely, as was Debbie. Welcome tea and homemade goodies to a stonking veggie lunch with crumble and custard to boot, and more tea...
Tea. Heat metal. Beat metal, Heat metal. Beat metal. Eat. Heat metal. Beat metal. Heat metal. Beat metal. Tea. What is not to like.
Could they do anything better? For me, I'd like the day to go on a wee bit longer. One more hour. Other than that, nothing else. As an experience, it was affordable, hugely enjoyable, you come away with physical permanent keepsakes that you have made and a great set of memories.
All the best & hope to see you again
Graham
What a brilliant day. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we walked in. Adrian was a fabulous instructor ‐ he makes it look so easy yet always on hand for some encouragement. Debbie did a great job feeding us with homemade goodies, needed an extra hour for a nap after lunch!
My Dad loved it ‐ Thank you
Really interesting day. Good atmosphere. Challenging but well instructed and lots of support as you went along. Really interesting day and the food / drink was exceptional; would recommend to anyone
My wife and I took the drawings of a table underframe for Adrian to cast his eye over some time before our covid delayed design and make weekend. Adrian gave the green light as a "do-able" project, excitment and anticipation rose. Our group assembled 9am prompt with a welcome tea/coffee cake/flapjack - and so our adventure began. With metal in hand, a little prompting, some demonstration and encouragement we began to forge and bend component parts - by lunchtime of the second day (excellent lunches with pudding!! Thank you Debbie) I had 4 legs pretty much matching and stretcher rails waiting for assembly. 16mm diam. rod was used to rivet the parts together this was a 3 man job one heating the rivet one balancing the frame on the anvil and one whielding a large hammer, result enormous smiles all round. I have some wire brushing/descaling to do and a finish to apply here at home, what a super satisfying weekend thank you Debbie, Adrian and Andy.
Adrian has an incredible amount of patience, and makes sure that everyone has a fantastic day. Worth every penny.
Brilliant day out learning some basic blacksmith skills. Tea and homemade flapjack to get us in the mood then Adrian got us straight onto our first piece, showing us what to do (he makes it look so easy!) then letting us loose. You work two to a furnace and everyone gets their own anvil and tools, so there is no hanging around waiting for your turn. Adrian and Andy were really helpful and wandered amongst us making sure we knew what we were doing. Lunch was amazing - Debbie looked after us really well. By the end of the day I'd finished my keyring and coat rack and was knackered but really pleased with what I'd made. There was still time for more tea and home-made cakes. Its a great day out - just do it!
The course was a surprise birthday gift for my wife and I booked another place to go along with her. We both had a great day and thoroughly enjoyed it. Debbie welcomed us with a hot brew and some homemade flapjack before Adrian gave us a brief introduction and before we knew it, we were hammering away at red hot steel over the anvil. The practical demonstrations were given in small easy to follow steps then we all went away and copied what we had just been shown. I was surprised how much we learned in such a short time and very pleased with what we managed to produce in one day (a key ring and a three-hook dragon coat rack). Adrian and Andy gave us all the help and support we needed throughout the day and their warm and friendly banter made us feel at ease from the start. Debbie provided a splendid lunch and home-made cakes to go with tea and coffee at the end of the day. Everyone there said they had enjoyed it when we were sat having a cuppa before leaving for home. We would definitely recommend giving it a go, you will not be disappointed.
Huge thanks to Debbie, Adrian and Andy
We had a fantastic day making flowers, with very clear instructions and help when needed. Enjoyed a scrumptious lunch and great flapjacks and coffee on arrival. Would strongly recommend this course to anyone.
I got this course as a birthday present back in February and it was definitely worth the wait. Delicious flapjacks are provided at breakfast then we went on to make a key ring. With lots of help and guidance from the guys leading the course. After a wonderful large lunch of local produce (included) we went on to make a coat rack for the wall. We both had a great time and enjoyed it so much that we are looking at their other courses. Staff are friendly and know their stuff. The tuition is clear and broken down in to steps so it's easy to follow. Would recommend for anyone to give this a go.
Long awaited Covid delayed birthday present. A great day. Greeted on arrival with a cup of tea followed by a short health and safety overview. Then straight in to making a snail key ring. Great step by step instruction before being released with fire and hammer. Ongoing support and guidance throughout. Then on to the Dragon coat rack with stage by stage instruction and guidance. All this interspersed with fabulous food, we did discuss whether we had time for a brief snooze after lunch but the dragons were calling.
This was an excellent hands on day with expert guidance. The guys were there when you needed them but let you work at your own pace in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Would thoroughly recommend.
What a fabulous day! We had plenty of space to work and the pace of the day and support from the teachers was just right so that you were kept busy and moved on when ready. The food was delicious and plentiful. I'm really proud of my dragon coat hooks and keyring and would love to go again. Would definitely recommend.
Friendly and well taught. Given space to work at own pace and help available promptly when required. Calm atmosphere created by team. Learnt loads and want to learn more!
Fabulous day! Clear instructions and friendly, helpful teachers. We came away with items to be proud of and show off! We were completely spoiled with delicious food . . . including cake. Highly recommended.
Bought this as a birthday present for my partner - he loved it!
The day was very well run, the food delicious and plentiful. He said it was hard physically but he's come home with 2 items he's really happy with ans he got to explore his manly and artistic sides in one go.
Thoroughly recommend.
It was its usual excellent day (I have been 3 times) with great food, great tuition, a warm, friendly atmosphere and at the end you go home with something worth looking at in the garden, at home or as present. I would recommend it to anyone, you don't have to be big and strong to do it, just watch your head on the forge.
Hi, what can I say about the day, there was some serious hammering done, the whole day was excellent from start to finish with a cup of tea/coffee on arrival, lunch was very good and the cup etc before leaving for home.
Everyone was made welcome and after a safety talk we got down to some serious hammering.
This is my second time blacksmiths and will be back again
Regards Mike
Fantstic day artistic with a good workout great comraderie sorry boys but the food was just fantstic thanks Debbie looking forward to next course
Great fun learning day with good interaction and a whole new experience of working that takes you right back to "school days" and the joy of making simply things while meeting new people. Lunch was great and the whole day was a new experience that I shall remember for a long time.
Fantastic day out creatice and a good workout great comaraderie good to come on your own or with a friend sorry boys but the food was really good thanks Debbie roll on the next course
Having not done anything like this since school, some 40yrs ago I was a little nervous but eager to get going. Straight away the guys made everyone feel welcome and soon put you at ease. H&S briefing done then straight into it.
Within minutes everyone was busy heating, hammering and shaping. Subtle hints and tips given so not to knock anyone’s confidence, with all explanations pitched at the perfect level.
The lunch provided was excellent and to choices of breads and cheese was a pleasant surprise. Over all a fantastic day, would I do it again…. Oh yes.
Absolutely amazing day out! My friend and I decided to come on this course as it’s something completely different to what we normally do and it was well worth every penny!
We were treated to tea and homemade cake on arrival with a chat about health and safety, and then it was straight into hitting hot metal! Every stage was explained in little chunks so you didn’t get lost or confused and both Adrian and Andy were happy to help out.
Debbie’s food can’t be forgotten either! Absolutely gorgeous! And enough to bolster you for the rest of the afternoon! (And she made sure to cater for food allergies in the group)
All in all it was a brilliant day out and I’ve come home with muscles I didn’t even know existed and two pieces I’ve made by hand!
Had a great day learning some blacksmithing skills with Adrian.
I really enjoyed physically creating something (bit different from the day job) and being introduced to a new medium (hot metal). I was worried about whether I would be able to hammer hard enough but this didn’t turn out to be a problem - it’s more about accuracy with the hammer and careful heating of the piece being worked on.
The food was excellent too!
Really enjoyed the day of learning a new skill. A friendly welcoming environment right from the start to the end of the day. Watching how they heat up the metal and how they mould it we were soon doing the same. I was so impressed what i was able to achieve. Plenty of supervision and support. Excellent home made food.
My husband and I did this together and had a fantastic day. The day was really hands on with clear demonstrations and Andy and Ade always ready to lend helping hand if needed. Thank you Debbie for the endless teas, coffees, homemade cakes and biscuits and a delicious lunch; you made it impossible to go hungry 😊 Ade, Andy and Debbie are so friendly, helpful and really easy to get along with. Whatever your ability you will be made to feel and ease. This is such a brilliant experience: I think everyone should have a go.
Thanks again, everyone, for being so welcoming and generally just awesome - we loved it!
I bought two experience days for my dad and husband as special birthday presents.
They have both come back from today absolutely full of things to tell me about their day. They have loved learning something new, and could not speak more highly of Ade and Andy. They were very enthusiastic about the food!
From start to finish I had a great experience of booking, even throughout covid and having to rebook twice. The communication and customer service from Debbie was excellent.
Myself, my husband and my dad haven't got a bad word to say. Thank you so much for a wonderful birthday present for both of them!
Thank you Debbie, Adrian and Andy for a fun and interesting day on my quest to learn new skills, would highly recommend.
Superb day, both Amdy, Adrian and Debbie make you feel really welcome.
Brilliant tuition and so pleased with the end result. Definetly worth every penny.
Foods lovely too!
Absolutely fantastic experience! Adrian, Andy and Debbie were all extremely welcoming and friendly. Lots of space in the workshop for everyone which helped put minds at ease with covid precautions. Delicious food for lunch with a whopping slice of cheesecake for dessert too! Excellent tutelage from the guys with great advice and lots of patience! I finished the day with a couple of blisters and a very sooty face and a great big smile! Highly recommended to anyone who fancies having a go at swinging a hammer!
Fantastic course, cannot fault the guys: food, atmosphere, welcome, guidance. Everything was considered and taken care of.
Thanks
Had a wonderful day in the blacksmith workshop. The staff were great and very support to those with leaning disabilities in particular. Especially loved making the dragon coat hanger.
A very relaxed atmosphere. They make it look easier than it really is.
Lots of hard work.An really interesting experience.
Food was very nice provided by Debbie who looked after everyone.
We definitely do it again.
What a fantastic day. If you want to get happy with a hammer then book this courses. Don't be shy get it hot and hit it. Also the cake and food are first class all washed down with Yorkshire Tea.
There's not much I can add to all the other entirely deserved 5 star reviews.
Whilst the subject matter is already compelling, it's Adrian, Andy and Debbie's warm welcome, good humour, support and guidance that have brought me back to the forge on 3 occasions (so far!).
I've no reservations in recommending the course to anyone who'd like to try something new; either as a passing fancy, as a taster for a new hobby or even a first step into new way of life. Everyone will leave a bit grubby, with a full stomach, a smile on their face and something they've made with their own hands -even if you've never so much as picked up a hammer before.
Fantastic day! Such an amazing experience and delicious food! Thank you.
What a fabulous day. Started with cup of tea and then a full explanation of the day ahead. Each item we made was thoroughly explained and support and guidance was easily given. Superb help was given at each stage. Coming away having made a key ring and coat hook was amazing. Lunch was fantastic, delicious and gave energy for the afternoon. The finishing touch of cake was lovely. As a small ‘oldish’ woman I didn’t have high expectations of my abilities but everything was done in a way that exceeded this 100% and I would and will happy go again. I highly recommend this as an experience.
Thoroughly enjoyed the course, which was bought for me as a birthday gift.
Adrian and Andy were extremely helpful and gave guidance where needed. I now have two practical things I can use and say I made those with my fair hand; with a little help.
The food was delicious!
I would definitely recommend this experience.
Thanks, Ian.
Great day and something very different from anything else I’ve tried. Friendly and considerate instruction with no time pressure. Thoroughly enjoyed it, along with the food. Wife probably won’t be impressed when she catches me sticking bits of metal in log burner from now on 😬
My wife got me this as a xmas gift. Probably the best course ive attended. Very relaxed atomosphere..... Ade is a fantastic teacher and has a wealth of knowledge, i could listen to him for hours as he has a knack of explaining some very in depth science and making it simple.
The foods amazing ( especially the charcoal cheese). Anyone from any background could attend this course and be instantly hooked on blacksmithing.
Making Dragon hooks with Adie and Andy. Busy day but great fun. Excellent instruction. Plenty of time and space for a group of eight. Able to go home having made something useful. Had great fun day and would thoroughly recommend to any one. You will get hot and have forearms like Popey. Will be doing again. Excellent value.
What a great day out! A very enjoyable experience. Hosted really well, spent a good day learning new things at the forge and got fed the best cakes too! I'd recommend it as a day out for anyone.
Hi Debbie
Just a quick message to reiterate how much I enjoyrd my day yesterday. You were all so welcoming and organised that any nerves I had soon disappeared. The demonstrations were clear and easily followed and Ade and Andy were alwats available to help or to answer any questions. It was without doubt one of the best if not the best present i have ever been given. Thank you all for such a fantastic day. One other thing the food we ate was superb so a special thank you to Debbie .
Thank you all so much for such a fantastic day.

This day's experience of blacksmithing was gifted to us both and we can honestly say it was excellent. Adrian and Andy were very encouraging, patient and professional throughout and really friendly and welcoming. Debbie's food was delicious with best cheesecake we've tasted! We both left with our dragon coat racks and snail key rings, sooty faces and aching muscles wanting to go back again as soon as we can. Highly recommended for beginners wanting to learn a new craft and a good day out!
What a good taster day, and well recommended. I ended up with a 3-way 'dragon' coat-hook, and a key-ring to master the initial techniques. Thanks to Debbie for an excellent dinner too, and then biscuits/cake/cheese, tea or coffee to finish off before finishing, leaving about 4:30. There were 8 of us there, well spaced out in an huge, airy forge. Adrian and Andy are excellent tutors and a very friendly and understanding. Don't think this is just for blokes, as there was one married couple there too. A thick leather apron and safety glasses are provided. All-in-all an interesting day!

Fantastic day at the Forge; highly recommended to anyone. Adrian and Andy are excellent instructors and maintained a relaxed and friendly atmosphere throughout the day. Definitely the best value day I can think of: 8hrs in the Forge with teaching, 2 items to take home, a delicious 3 course lunch (thanks Debbie), plenty of tea/coffee and great cake/flapjacks, not to mention entertaining and informative chat along the way! Aching right arm and needing a shower, but with a coat rack and key ring to take home - even a complete novice can make something functional that looks surprisingly good! Will be recommending to all my friends/colleagues.
I was bought a taster day as a surprise gift and I really enjoyed exploring a new craft. I was worried about the heat but it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be! Adrian and Andy explained clearly, helped when needed, and were friendly and interesting to chat to. What can I say about Debbie and the food? I'd do this course again just for the delicious food! Overall, an excellent day, you won't be disappointed.
I attended with 2 friends and we had a fabulous day making garden flowers. The instruction given by Adrian and Andrew was great really informal but helpful. We were left to be creative and it was very hands on with help and guidance close by as required.
The lunch and refreshments provided by Debbie were excellent.
We left exhausted with aching arms and blistered hands and 2 gorgeous flowers each for our gardens and would do it again in a heart beat.
A brilliant day!!
We had a great day! Adrian and Andy had the right balance of letting us learn and get on with it and being on hand to tell us what might be easier and work better. The atmosphere was relaxed and fun but always with safety in mind. The food provided by Debbie was delicious- especially the flapjack. Debbie was very helpful in the run up to the course offering advice on accommodation ( if needed) and reassuring us about safety measures in place.
We brought home 2 fabulous flowers which have been admired by many!
Highly recommend this as a gift or just a great day to learn something new.
Absolutely brilliant day, from start to finish! Would highly recommend for anyone interested in blacksmithing! Adrian, Andy, and Debbie are lovely people and very helpful and made the day even better! Thanks again guys!
Got the taster day for my birthday. GENUINELY impressed by everything. From how accommodating and helpful the staff were to how easy they made everything look.
I would definitely recommend gloves for first timers like me, but would definitely go again.
Thanks for the day guys
Fourth Course this time and as always, really enjoyed myself. This time I was able to join onto another course but was given the opportunity to have free reign on what I made. I made some more of the Garden Flowers to join my others in the Garden and I was left with artistic freedom. Obviously Adrian and Andy were always on hand to offer help and guidance where I needed it. The others on the course made the Chestnut Roaster and Fire Poker with some really excellent results, think I may have to take part in this one next year. Food provided was lovely as ever and all homemade. Thanks again Debbie, especially for the Coffee Cake at the end of the day. I really recommend getting yourself booked on one of next years courses, or they also make a fantastic gift for someone at Christmas or Birthdays. That's how I got the bug. Massive thanks again to Adrian, Andy and Debbie and we will look forward to seeing you all again next year!
I have been wanting to go on a blacksmithing course for some time and was not disappointed. The full day was excellent. Ades help and tuition was great and the hearty lunch was lovely (must remember to have a light breakfast next time!) Enjoyed it so much, can’t wait to get on the next one. Would definitely recommend this as a gift or to just do something different. Thanks again for a great day.
This is the second time I have been on a Blacksmith course with Adrian and I thoroughly enjoyed both of them.
The first time I made a key ring and a coat hook, this time I made a rams head poker.
It really is a good course to do, excellent tutoring skills from a really nice guy and fantastic food!
Thanks for another great day.
Excellent pre-course arrangements, teaching and hospitality including the hearty lunch - particularly liked the moreish flapjack on arrival and the cake! Ade’s instruction and supervision and help was as excellent as every and Debbie’s organisation and hospitality was top notch. Will be booking for next year.
Another great day in the forge with Ade. Made a great rams head poker and we had time to play around and make a fire rake as well. As ever Ade is super patient and helpful, demonstrating everything before we do our ham fisted efforts! Debbie did great refreshments and ace lunch (including charcoal cheese!). Everything was organised to ensure social distancing and full C-19 precautions, Much safer in the forge than the drive there.
We'll be back for the two day course!
Highly recommended.
Great relaxed day what was not to like one critiscm - too much nice food loved it
We had a great day learning about forging and making useful items in the process. We both felt it took us back to our teenage years when we both did metalwork.
We were guided in easy to follow stages throughout after an health and safety briefing.
We could ask for help at any time and this was given without us feeling silly.
We were also catered for very well with excellent food.
We would recommend this to anyone wanting a different experience and not minding getting a bit dirty.
Really enjoyable day. Adrian and Andy were great, coupled with the awesome home cooked food from Debbie you felt really looked after. Would highly recommend!
Brilliant day out with Adrian,Andy and Debbie thanks guys
Wow! What an excellent way to spend a Saturday after months of lockdown! The atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly, with full guidance from Ade and Andy, and both were on hand to help when things got tricky. Debbie's home made food was amazing, so tasty and filling!
It was great doing something different and having a couple of keepsakes to take away with us too. I would highly recommend this course, and it's such a resonable price for what you get in terms of time, practical hands on experience, guidance and again....amazing food! We will definitely be booking up again!
Good day, good food, good company and good metal working. Thanks
What a brilliant day. We started with a very welcoming greeting and hot drinks and Debbie’s home made biscuits and flapjacks. At the forge Adrian’s tuition was delivered at an instructive pace and Adrian and Andy were then constantly available to reinforce the skills at your personal anvil. Extra opportunities were introduced for anyone who found themselves ahead of the group. A hearty home made lunch and afternoon drinks and cakes kept your energy levels up. A must do experience that’s worth every penny. Well done guys.
A great day at The Forge with Adrian, Andy and Debbie. This was my first experience with 'hammer and tongs' and was certainly a day to remember. A very warm welcome, and just the right amount of time spent on an introductory briefing and demonstration before we all set to work on our own pieces. Although the work was quite physically demanding, it was immensely satisfying and Adrian + Andy were always on hand to advise and guide, whilst allowing us to try different techniques. I'm really proud of the two garden flowers I created - a great reminder of an excellent day!
Thanks to Adrian+ Andy for their tuition and to Debbie for the fantastic + plentiful food. I'll be back!
A fantastic day creating garden flowers. This is our fourth visit to The Forge, each time has been thoroughly exhilarating and exhausting but extremely satisfying. The instruction and support from Adrien and Andy is excellent. In addition to the friendly atmosphere is the amazing food provided by Debbie. I would highly recommend this course to anyone.
This was a retirement gift from work, I thoroughly enjoyed it all, met some like minded folks and had fun. They took really good care of us, not only with the metal work, but also due to the lockdown restrictions.
A really good group that presented and not to mention the lovely food and flapjacks, could not recommend enough. Thank you
I had an absolutely fantastic day trying out a totally new skill, it was great I will definitely be back for another course if not more. To be fair, better than the metalwork was the food, mmm delicious I would come back just for the bait. 😁
A great day for anyone who wants to be creative and you take home what you have made.
Lots of tasty food and drinks.
Adrian, Andy are friendly helpful and talented. See some of the brilliant things they design and build.
This will be the third course I have been on and I enjoyed it as much as the others. The guidance from Adrian and Andy is second to none and if I've ever had problems with a piece of work they have been able to help rectify it. We attended during social distancing measures and I always felt everyone had plenty of room around them, so distancing wasn't an issue. Food, as always, was spot on. Debbie makes the best Veggie Chilli and there are some sweet treats provided throughout the day too. Highly recommend doing the Dragon Coat Hook course first to get into the swing of things. This definitely set me up for doing the Candle Holder and the Garden Flowers. A big thanks again to Adrian, Andy and Debbie!
This is the second blacksmithing day I have taken part in and it just gets better. I now have two metal flowers standing 5ft tall in my garden and can't wait to book the next day. Adrian, Andy and Debbie are a great team and their talent and encouragement ensures that everyone has a great day and achieves great things. Can't recommend the course enough and Debbie makes sure everyone is well fed and watered.
What a fabulous day, we both thoroughly enjoyed our day, learning the basics of Blacksmithing and coming home with two pieces of work each that we are very proud of.
From the moment we booked the course Debbie was very friendly and efficient in her correspondence, this carried through into the day, she made us feel very welcome and at ease on arrival and provided wonderful home made cakes and biscuits for snacks and a delicious homemade lunch.
Ade and Andy were extremely good in explaining how to begin, how to better a technique, how to look after yourself while working. They provided a good working environment that had all the equipment etc at hand and helped us to feel confident in what we were doing. They provided an excellent level of support, left us do as much as we could, but also knowing exactly when to step in and give a little extra support.
On top of this we had some interesting chats and laughs.
It was a great day, thank you to you all and we will be returning.
Tim & Michelle
Dear Debbie, Aid and Andy
What a great day yesterday, we both thoroughly enjoyed the experience from start to finish even though at the end we were both feeling the effects of the challenges of being novice blacksmiths.
From the outset our expectations were exceeded, the demos and the guidance of the 'professionals' helped us to create pieces that we will look back on with pride.
The food was delicious, plentiful and very appropriately timed, then back on the job. We also had time to laugh which was great, my son Gary told me on the way home of my mistakes on the 'dragon hanger' which simply made my work piece personal and unique.
A great experience for both of us and the others attending. Highly recommended.

Highly recommended and a very enjoyable day with expert blacksmiths sharing their knowledge and skills in a friendly atmosphere.
A fantastic course and great day was had by all, Ade and the team could of not made us all more welcome, I would wholeheartedly recommend this taster course and it makes a great gift.
The course ran at a good pace and after a brief introduction to health and safety we were straight to our anvils and hammering hit steel. Many thanks to all, really enjoyed the day, and the food and refreshments were excellent!
I was fortunate to receive the taster day as a present. I am clearly not going to be pursuing a career as a blacksmith but the course was thoroughly enjoyable and I would struggle to think of a better way to spend a Sunday. Many thanks.
This was an excellent course. Debbie, Adrian and Andy created and maintained a very welcoming and inclusive atmosphere throughout the day with great food and refreshments. The workshop provided plenty of space for the group with all the necessary tools and equipment readily available when needed. Adrian's initial explanations and demonstrations of the tasks were clear and concise enabling participants to get on with them, in their own time, at their own pace, with support and advice available as and when required. The first task was a really useful exercise in developing a basic understanding and experience of working with the tools and materials before moving on to apply and develop these techniques to make the second piece. In short, this was a really good day with lots of new experiences culminating in the creation of two unique pieces of work. Very enjoyable and highly recommended.
The day was brilliant, both Adrian and Andy were a great help whenever needed and have easy to follow instructions. On top of that the food was great. A thoroughly enjoyable day
Had great day last Saturday on the course, bashing hot steel...it is very hands on and with a lot of very knowledgable help available all day. Very sociable and lots of fun..and lots of food / cake and biccies. Recommended!!
Lovely experience, friendly people and good fun all day, 100% recommended and I will be back.
Really enjoyable and valuable introduction to blacksmithing, with the opportunity to have lots of practice throughout the day. The attitude is very much "get stuck in" and ask if you need help, which I very much appreciated. Lunch provided is delicious (and huge!) which is a real bonus. Highly recommended.
What a great day! Lovely warm welcome, wholesome food, and of course learning some skills which I've wanted to try for quite a while. Right, how do I make my own forge and anvil at the bottom of the garden? Thanks guys.
Absolutely fantastic day, very welcoming and friendly bunch of people! A great couple of projects, going to see if I can build a forge in my garage without my wife noticing....! Would thoroughly recommend to anyone. Thanks to all the guys for their hospitality
My sister has always fancied having a go at blacksmithing so we spotted the course and thought we’d give it a go. Everything was fab, from the warm welcome with a brew from Debbie to the continuous support from Ade and Andy throughout all the steps of the 2 projects. Lunch was tasty, and tea and cake was an extra treat. We were both able to create something that resembled what it was supposed to, although to be fair our definition wasn’t maybe as strong as the men managed because our striking strength was a bit softer, but we are both proud of what we achieved, so thanks to the entire team for a great experience - we’re considering the flower workshop (especially as it’s on our birthday!) Thank you for a great day!
Fantastic day, thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. I was made very welcome from the start and and felt reassured with the continued support thought the day. I will definitely be looking into doing another day again this year. Thanks everyone, you made my Christmas present very special. 😊👍
Great day out, didn’t really know what to expect but on arrival was greeted with warm conversation and a very relaxed atmosphere. Great starter course and left me wanting more.
Food and service outstanding from Debbie. And last but not at all least Adrian and Andy, top top men who know exactly what they are doing. They help you accomplish two pieces of metal art that by first look you are thinking, 'I’ll not be able to do that', but Adrian takes you through a step by step demonstration of how. The lads are on hand anytime the doubt creeps in or just lost on what steps are next.
Must do!!
A fantastic day of forging.
Adrian, Andy and Debbie are a brilliant team who deliver a really interesting and fun course. I felt like I had learnt so much in the space of a day and I look forward to developing these techniques myself and learning more from them in the future.
I am sending this review in on behalf of my husband who is utterly useless at anything with buttons and even worse at writing reviews but he had such a fabulous day doing this course that I can't possibly let it go unacknowledged. He is a super hands-on type of guy but had never done anything like this before and he learned loads - he is now seriously thinking about setting up his own home forge (sorry neighbours, sure you'll get over that eventually).
I would like to say a huge thanks to Debbie and Ade for the day because although he came home late for tea and absolutely filthy, his hands were pitted and his face wasn't much better but he had the biggest grin plastered on his face and it was so lovely to see that I didn't have the heart to point it out, he was absolutely buzzing. Debbie, he really loves your chilli too.
So would I recommend this craft course? Absolutely. Don't think that quite covers it but definitely give it a go, regardless of your current ability, you will be glad you did.
We had a fantastic time learning the basics of blacksmithing with Adrian, Andy and Debbie. A warm welcome, delicious food from Debbie and expert tuition from Andy and Adrian. Everything was explained and demonstrated clearly and we were able to start working the metal right away. There was a perfect balance of being left to get on with it ourselves but being given help and advice when needed. We came away proudly with our keyrings and coathooks and fantastic memories. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the experience.
An epic way to spend a day; after a warm welcome and a short health and safety talk you're on the tools, shaping hot steel. Debbie provided a great welcome, not to mention a hearty meal, drinks, and, cakes etc. Adrian and Andy are both really knowledgeable, approachable, and generally nice guys. Try it, you'll ha e a great time.
Had a fabulous day. Adrian and Andy were brilliant and Debbie put on a fabulous spread. It was really interesting and hard work but completely worth it and every penny. Just goes to show all the effort that goes into some of the amazing metalwork out there. Highly recommended it especially if you're looking for something different to do.
What a cracking day. Hard work and a full day, but fascinating and so enjoyable. An ancient craft explained and supervised by friendly and enthusiastic experts. And the food is superb. If you want reality, try this.
A phenomenal experience. I listened, I learned, I applied, I created, I loved, I experienced, I enjoyed. Adrian and Andy's skills with the anvil and hammer are matched by their warmth, care and consideration in their approach to teaching and inclusivity. What a wonderful experience. Thank you both and massive thanks to Debbie for all the organising (of me by email re directions and dietary requirements) and for the refreshments and wonderful food and cakes.
We had such a brilliant time and can’t wait to get back for another go! The whole team are fantastic and I would recommend this to anyone.
Adrian and Andy were excellent teachers - they make it look very easy! The level and amount of work was perfect - challenging but not overwhelming, tough but not knackering. It felt complicated enough to feel proud of our achievements but expertly managed so we didn’t fail. Debby was fantastic too - really helpful and organised when I arranged the bookings, sent through really helpful details before the course, and welcomed us with a cuppa, tasty flapjacks and a smile. Lunch was delicious (and plenty of it!) and there was a fun, relaxed atmosphere all day.
Excellent value for money and so much fun!
We had an excellent day!! A brilliant start with fantastic homemade flapjack. Adrian & Andy were very informative, knowledgeable and helpful. They made it look so easy! It was a great opportunity to have a go at a skill we have fancied trying for a while. Debbie's food was excellent, very welcome indeed after all the hard work hammering! We would definitely recommend this course.
Absolutely brilliant course. Adrian and Andy hit just the right balance of instruction and letting you get on with it. Debbie's food is excellent, home baked bread and cakes?! The place is amazing and the equipment and knowledge is spot on. Great day out which lets you take home something unique and self-made.
The day spent with Adrian and Andy was well worth it. Very knowledgeable and helpful without being intrusive and taking over. The guidance they gave enabled us to make the key ring and coat hook to a high standard. Hospitality was spot on with tea / coffee and cake on offer throughout. Lunch was delicious as well. All in all a fantastic day with great instruction by two decent guys - thank you!
What a superb day!
Two friendly, helpful and enthusiastic leaders.
Home made flapjack and biscuits with tea and coffee when I arrived.
Home made cake at the end of the day .
Two projects demonstrated and made successfully .
Great companions all working hard and cheerfully .
What a splendid day!
I'm looking on the website to see if I can go again.
Thank you all so much .
This was without doubt one of the best days of my longish life, the hospitality was excellent and the tuition of teaching an old dog new tricks was second to none, so proud of myself. I will definitely be back for more in the future. Thank you all for a wonderful day.
John Collins
Another cracking day with Adrian and Andy at the forge. Bit more tricky and a lot more hammer work than the other courses but made a pretty good set of tongs, a punch and a drift. Learned some more techniques as well. As ever the hospitality and food were spot on.
Roll on the two day design and make course!
Very enjoyable and interesting even if like me you are unlikely to do any more. Created a heritage piece to hand down through the family for generations (I'm sure). Food also excellent.
It's a great setup and I came away with lots of helpful tips and advice. The food was fantastic and I was made to feel welcome from the moment I arrived. Thanks again.
Absolute fantastic. Today was my fourth course and Adrian and Andrew are fantastic teachers, ery skilled and a great laugh. Debbie provides wonderful food and cakes.
I would highly recommend the courses and I'll certainly be back so you lot have been warned 😉
An excellent day. Great teachers, home made food in plenty and a really memorable different day. Thank you. We were really pleased and chuffed with what we manage to produce.
I have just arrived home from the most wonderful blacksmithing experience proudly clutching two items I managed to make all by myself! Adrian, Andy and Debbie were so welcoming and ensured everyone had a day to remember. The day was so well planned and the blacksmithing work was challenging for 'first timers' which gave a great sense of achievement when successfully finished. We were well fed and enjoyed great company throughout the day. Recommend this craft course highly - marvellous way to spend a day.

October 2019
I can only second all the positive comments on what Adrian,Debbie and Andy have to offer. A cracking experience even for a complete novice. The only thing which could be bettered was my hammering technique, and it did get better with guidance, and I came away with two pieces I’m proud of. Great way to spend a Saturday.
Well- I think it's all been said! Totally agree with all the comments especially the one that says if you're thinking of doing this course- just go for it... you won't be disappointed! Superb day!
Absolutely brilliant. From start to finish the guys were friendly and engaging. Their setup is perfect for the size of the group with plenty of fires and gear. Having never done anything of the sort before I was surprised just how quickly we could get stuck in and start hammering. We made two really cool items to take away and nothing felt rushed or pressured. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to try something different and will definitely be returning for another course in the future.
Thanks very much to all involved.
James
Bought the taster day as a gift for my partner and got myself a ticket too; so glad I did! This was a fantastic day. All instructions on how to ensure enjoyment of and find the event were clear and easy to follow.
The day itself was packed full of instruction and hands-on activities, we both got a real sense of achievement with what we made and were able to build on skills learned in the morning for the more ambitious afternoon project. The venue was great, the food and refreshments really delicious (we ended up asking for several recipes), and the teaching from both Adrian and Andy was really thorough and clear. Would definitely recommend this experience, we'll be looking for their other courses.
Fabulous course. Really friendly team who were patient, helpful and humorous. Lovely food and refreshments as well. Thoroughly recommended as a great learning experience and a great day out.
This course was the most fantastic birthday present – not too daunting for beginners but challenging enough to give you a real sense of achievement. Ade and Andy have a supportive step-by-step approach that builds your confidence as the day progresses. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and the home catering is a perfect fit for the 'crafty' ethos at the Forge. Definitely recommended!
I attended the beginners course on on Saturday 28th September. I found the course to be really engaging as we got excellent hands on experience making a coat hook and a key ring, the guys are very helpful and friendly. The food was delicious with ample tea and coffee throughout the day.
I would definitely recommend this course.
Attended the taster day earlier in 2019. Didn't want that day to finish and had the same feeling this time. Somehow after eight hours we all had produced at least four different flowers (which look like flowers!) and these were then welded together to form a unique bouquet. Thoroughly enjoyed the entire day. We were busy and did a lot! Adrian and Andy were tireless instructors, with a lot of patience. Throughly recommend to anyone who can lift a hammer.
What a fantastic day! My 16 year old daughter was given this course as a Christmas present and I was her plus 1! From start to finish we were made to feel incredibly welcome by all three members of the team. Adrian and Andy were patient and encouraging teachers and Debbie was a generous host. No matter what your skill level (ours was non existent!) you can do this and come away feeling a great sense of achievement with what you've made. It was fun and relaxed throughout, and the day flew by. We were incredibly well fed with great home made, hearty food. We came away exhausted, and filthy but chuffed to bits.
Thank you for a great day!
Once again, another cracking day making a bouquet of flowers, learned a few more techniques and had a lovely piece to take home. Lovely lunch and more snacks and drinks than we could get through!
Thanks again, looking forward to tool making next!
Fabulous day with amenable company and a chance to get a taster of a new obsession! Many thanks to the team.
I booked this course as a surprise for someone & because it was something different to do. It was an absolutely great day out! we both loved it and were proud of ourselves for what we made. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful throughout the day. Things were explained exceptionally well and it was so much fun to do. Easy to find, lovely food for lunch and relaxed atmosphere. Couldn't ask for anything else!
This was a 60th birthday present it was a great day warm welcome from Debbie, Adrian and Andy after some lovely home cooked food and drink we got down to business heating and hitting steel. The day flowed well and with a break for lunch with some home cooked food from Debbie we was back to it. After completing our tasks it was nice to sit have a drink and some more cake and listen to the stories of dodgy vans and passed exploits. I enjoyed the day so much I have put a piggy bank to aside to save for some more days.
Thanks for such a great day.
Regards Steve
This was a Christmas present from my wife who knew I always loved to watch artisans and craftsmen at work, especially Blacksmiths. The course was amazing, right from the start with the warm welcome, cup of coffee and a flapjack, then after the safety briefing it was straight in.
Adrian and Andy were great at the demonstrations of the techniques and helped us along the way as we started hitting white hot bits of metal with a big hammer! Always encouraging and supportive.
The midday meal was huge, you won't starve.
Big thanks to Adrian, Andy and Debbie for making a wonderful day.
This was a birthday gift from my partner and I attended the course two weeks ago.
Having done many things in my life, I have to say this was definitely one of the best things I have ever done.
Adrian and Andy are excellent hosts and storytellers as well as being very skilled at what they do - they produce some genuinely imaginative things.
They are most welcoming and there is no messing about - straight into heating and bashing hot steel from the off.
The instruction is more gentle guidance and everybody there on the day got along well because of the way it was presented.
The day was supported by the great food produced by Debbie and if you are considering being a vegetarian, then she will certainly give you food for thought.
A most wonderful experience and if you are considering attending a course then stop considering and book yourself a place.
Thoroughly enjoyed today's blacksmithing course. A very good day out. Many thanks, Mike.
Brilliant day, would recommend this to anyone wanting a go at blacksmithing, perfect gift bought for me at Christmas.
Excellent Christmas present. Bashing pieces of hot steel is an ideal way to spend a Saturday after a hard week at work. Adrian and Andy were very patient with the right level of support. Debbie was very welcoming providing lovely food to keep us going. I would definitely recommend but get in quick as the courses are booked up quickly. I will be going back as I really enjoyed the day.
What an excellent day that was. Relaxed and informal with a great teaching style from both Adrian and Andy. Never felt out of my depth with the tasks given. I would thoroughly recommend this experience to anyone who wants a taster of blacksmithing. I certainly hope to be back for more.
Very enjoyable day with just the right level of guidance & assistance i.e. shown how to do it and always around to check if one was struggling but let you get on and do it yourself. Nice lunch & homemade cake & biscuit selection plus much admired dragon coat rack and keyring at the end of it.
Great course! Great set up, Adrian is a excellent teacher. He makes it look so easy, but its not as hard it looked, l surprised myself. The food is fab, highly recommend the course and you get to show off your skills by showing everyone what you have made.
Interested in blacksmithing? Definitely do this course, lovely people, lovely food and a top notch experience making things with hot steel. Plenty of help if you need it and plenty of space for being left to do your own thing, just the way things should be taught in a friendly and fun way. Highly recommended by me.
Great day. Adrian and Andy gave an excellent demonstration of what we were about to make and were then on hand to give help and advice at just the right level. Not just stepping in, but allowing each student to work through the processes but always there if needed. Debbie was very welcoming and provided some great food to keep everyone fuelled up for the day. Would recommend one of their courses to anyone.
Brilliant weekend doing the design and make course. Adrian and Andy are excellent teachers providing as much guidance as you need whilst allowing you to do your own work under their excellent tuition. The food included with the course made by Debbie is always fantastic and as always I left the course feeling I'd achieved a good amount and eager to do more.
Really enjoyed this course. Great instruction, and facilities. Hat's off to Debbie, Adrian and Andy for a lovely day, the small group worked really well with enough space to work and plenty of tools to go round. I was amazed at how quickly we were able to make our first piece (I put it down to good teaching :)). And it really set you up for the next project. Thank you all.
A brilliant experience well worth the wait. Good company, good food. A well organized day. Adrian and Andy gave clear easy to follow instructions and were patient and on hand at all times keeping a careful eye on everyone. Thankyou.
I had a fantastic day and would highly recommend this course. Both Adrian and Andy are very positive and encouraging, explaining all the necessary techniques perfectly and Debbie’s lunch was fab. Thank you all very much.
Had a brilliant day, nice and warm 😂🤣😂. Everyone very friendly and welcoming. Really good instruction, Ade and Andy kept a good eye on proceedings and were ready to give a helping hand when needed. Food delicious well done Debbie.
The day far exceeded my expectations. A thoroughly enjoyable, highly entertaining day, with excellent food and company. The demonstrations, help and advice couldn't have been better. I was amazed that I was able to produce a splendid coat rack and key ring. The question now is "where can I put a forge in my garden?" I strongly recommend the course. I really have to do another one.
Such a good day trying something new and really being able to get your teeth into it. Great hospitality and food as well. Highly recommended.
Great experience and I thoroughly recommend, be warned this could get very addictive!
Adrian, Debbie, and Andy were an absolute pleasure to spend the day with, and so were the others on the course. Food was epic too!
Enjoyed my Christmas present :-)
A very pleasurable learning experience. I would recommend the course to anyone.
Thank you for a great day.
Thoroughly enjoyed my day thank you
I received the course for Christmas and I'm so delighted I did! The course was incredibly enjoyable and very easy to follow. The instructions were thorough and clearly explained. Adrian, Debbie and Andy were a delight to spend time with and the lunch was to die for! Highly recommend!!
Got this as a Christmas present and it was one of the best gifts I’ve had. Really friendly and helpful, put us right at ease. Suitable for complete novice, can’t recommend it enough. You will not be disappointed, certainly have the bug now! Thanks to Adrian and Debbie, a great experience.
Given to me as a birthday present and would absolutely recommend (not just for the lunch, flapjack and cake, which were awesome).
The day was great - from the start it was just get stuck in and give it a go, under Adrian and Andy’s guidance. It’s as challenging as you want to make it, great fun and really opens your eyes to what goes into working with metal - (you’ll never look at a hook the same way again), and of course you get your creations to take away.
Really recommend the course and the forge. Brilliant day thanks!
Absolutely amazing day, best Christmas present ever, wish I lived nearer!!! The course was very informative and hands on (can’t wait to book again). The guys went out of their way to give me the best blacksmith experience beyond anything I thought it would be!!!
Big thanks to Debbie for refreshments and lunch. Hopefully see you all soon .
My wife bought this as a gift for my birthday. What an excellent day. The instructions were clear and we were helped along the way to achieve good end results - I was amazed about what I achieved. I proudly took home my efforts, and my young grandson was amazed with the results. It was informal, relaxed and friendly with the addition of a lovely lunch and snacks provided by Debbie. My friends will all be hearing about this great day.
I would recommend this day to those wanting to understand the process and maybe start a new hobby.
Thank you Adrian Andy and Debbie. Plus a big thank you to my wife Lesley for this wonderful gift.
A great introductory day to blacksmithing. Easy going, knowledgeable guys in a working blacksmiths shop with good food thrown in. Highly recommended.
Great day, thoroughly recommended.
A well organised very 'hands on' practical experience event. The guys are friendly, informative and supportive. You get great cake and I've come home with a dragon - what more could you possibly want?
Cheers. Mark
Decided to do this course as a father and son event. I was expecting to a make a keyring and a single coat hook. After completing the key ring, I was somewhat surprised when Adrian showed the dragon coat triple hook. However, given the excellent support and guidance from Adrian and Andy, I did indeed achieve a triple coat hook. It has been put up in the utility room today.
I really enjoyed the day and would recommend it to one and all. No prior experience is needed (I have not worked on metal since first year of secondary school (46 years ago!)) and there is no need for huge biceps.
The course was effective, interesting, relaxed and informal. The instructors are very approachable. Student mistakes were corrected easily. The whole day was great fun and passed too quickly.
The food/refreshments were very good throughout. Flapjack and biscuits on arrival, chilli and jacket potato, followed by fruit crumble and cheese for lunch and finally, once the course had finished, biscuits, flapjacks and cake.
My son has already mentioned coming back for a second course and I may well bring my daughter as well.
My husband and I had been entranced with a beautiful garden bench created by Adrian. Also a swallow sculpture he’d done - both of which we purchased and he installed.
I needed to come on a course to appreciate the work and skill, not to mention the creative imagination he puts into his work. I was not disappointed.
It’s hard and hot work! All on the course were encouraged throughout by Adrian and Andy. It was such fun with us all comparing efforts throughout the day.
Add to this the wonderful food created by Debbie and you have a gem of a day to take away - not only new skills and appreciation, but new friends too. Thank you all.
I spent the day with these amazing guys and I learned loads. The food was fantastic. You are give exactly the attention /coaching you need.
I can highly recommend this course.
I will be coming back to do some tool making.
I really enjoyed this course, the teaching and support from Ade & Andy was great and enabled everyone to make something really good to take home. Debbie provided us with tea, cakes and lunch to keep us hammering through the day. Thankyou!
I bought this as a present for my husband and decided to join him. What an excellent day. The instructions were clear and we were helped along the way to achieve good end results - I was amazed about what I achieved. Both of us proudly took home our efforts. It was informal, relaxed and friendly with the addition of a lovely lunch and snacks. Our friends will all be hearing about our great day.
I would recommend this day to those wanting to understand the process and maybe start a new hobby.
Thank you Adrian and Andy.
Anne and Bob
I hadn't hammered hot metal for over thirty years since I was at secondary school and after Adrian's demonstrating what we were to do, I thought ' I can't do that'. However, I did and produced two very pleasing pieces of work of which I'm very proud.
The whole day's experience was first class and a Christmas present to myself. I thoroughly recommend it, but the only caveat I'll apply is, if you're watching your waistline then Debbie's cooking won't help. Wish I'd done it years ago, but might do it again. Also, I'm planning on doing the Design & Make course in June 2020. Many thanks Adrian, Andy and of course, Debbie.
I had this bought as a birthday present from my wife. Really enjoyed the day. Adrian, Debbie and Andy were the perfect hosts. Would definitely like to come back and try something else.
I bought the beginners taster day as a present for my partner and decided to go along too. It was a brilliant day from start to finish. The whole team were lovely, clear instructions and a fun environment. I was really pleased with what we all produced in the day and got to take home. Highly recommend this to anyone looking at giving blacksmithing a go.
Had a fantastic day, Adrian and Andy were friendly and informative. I was thinking 'I will never be able to make that', however the step by step approach and demonstration made it a lot clear and easier to follow and I was able to produce some thing that at least resembled the key ring and coat hanger.
I would fully recommend this course.
I had a great time on the blacksmithing taster day today. I have never done anything like this before but came away with a real sense of achievement, keen to do more. Really patient instruction and careful supervision. We were really well fed too, delicious home cooked lunch and cakes. Excellent, thank you.
An awesome day with good company, great food and first class teaching and assistance. As a taster day it was brilliant with well chosen projects and made me consider further days. Thanks to the team you were fantastic.
Mick
Overall an excellent day. Everything was clearly explained and help was at hand whenever needed. Really chuffed with what we managed to achieve making a key ring and dragon coat rack which involved learning various techniques. The food and refreshments are all homemade and are delicious.
Big thanks 😁
A very good enjoyable day lovely people and a good informative course. Thanks chris
Never tried blacksmithing before or been particularly practical. Adrian and Andy will gentle you through lots of elements of the skill and help you do things you never dreamed you were capable of. Debbie's cooking is first rate and the whole day is full of good food, good conversation and good fun. Brilliant value, will be back!
My first time black smithing, my wife got me this course for my 60th birthday treat the day before the course as I kept saying how much I enjoyed watching Kev Paxton at his forge in Scotland on TV. Much needed cup of tea on arrival and after quick H&S talk straight down to work. Very helpful and informative demonstrations from Adrian and surprised myself with how well I did ! Completely out of my comfort zone after 38 years working in NHS. Excellent food at lunch time to build us up for more forging. Ended day with tea and cake some excellent conversation and 2 pieces of work I did myself. Can't wait to do another course.
Thanks to Debbie, Adrian and Andy and to all the other people who attended on the 30th March I really enjoyed all your company and hope to meet up with you again on future sessions.
Really great and fun day. Fantastic instructions given in an informative and useful way. We had the freedom to add our own touches if we wanted to le to the thing we made feeling like ours.
Food was delicious finished off the day perfectly.
Really friendly, helpful and made me feel at ease, excellent day!!! Thankyou so much. And to debbie for the lovely food and cake. I had a brilliant birthday many thanks.
Another amazing day with Adrian, Andy and Debbie making garden flowers. This is my second time blacksmithing and each time I learn another skill and leave with a lovely creation (even if I do say so myself). Adrian and Andy are so skilled they are able to assist you with each project and I would highly recommend any of the courses to anyone of any ability. Needless to say I have booked on another course and wil most doubtlessly booked on many more to come. Thank you Adrian, Andy and Debbie.
I enjoyed an excellent day with Adrian and Andy making 2 unique and beautiful (to me) garden flowers.
Debbie provided tasty home-cooked snacks and lunch which added to the whole experience.
I strongly recommend this Garden Flowers Day to anyone who doesn't mind a bit of hard work to achieve something special!
What a great day. A really good hands on experience with things made to take home. As a bonus the homemade food provided was superb ,thank you Debbie for providing the icing on the cake, literally !!
Absolutely loved this day. Booked it for a present for my Dads 70th birthday and he thought it was excellent . Very welcoming and full of knowledge. The food is all homemade and is amazing 😊
Absolutely fantastic day led by some totally awesome people. Bought this for my Dad as a thematic birthday present after he drunkenly convinced everyone he was descended from Vikings. Neither of us have done anything like this before so we weren't sure what to expect. Fire... Metal... Hitting things with hammers... It's got it all.
After we arrived and were fully warmed through with flapjack and coffee Adrian got straight into it, explaining and demonstrating each step of the process with practiced ease. There was plenty of space for everyone, with one anvil each and two people per forge meaning you were completely free to experiment at your own pace. After the practice pieces were finished we moved straight on to the more complex piece which required a little more teamwork and perseverance but came out looking fantastic. Again Adrian and Andy were on hand to provide support, advice and laughs throughout. Lunch was fantastic - warming homemade vegetarian chili cooked by Debbie followed by mind blowing crumble and a great atmosphere.
Altogether can't recommend this enough for anyone looking for a real experience that's a little different. Thanks again Adrian and Debbie for an unforgettable day!
Absolutely excellent day. I booked this for myself as it's always something I've wanted to do for. Adrian took us through everything step by step, plenty of support throughout the day. It's honestly one of the best days I've spent in a long time and I feel like I learned so much, I'm certainly going to go on another of their courses to learn more.
I really can't recommend this enough, the whole team there is so nice and friendly and really make it a special day.
I know lots of other people have said but the food really is first class!
What a wonderfully enjoyable day! Learning more about the art of being a blacksmith (and it is most definitely 'an art'!) and having a go yourself. Warm welcome on arrival sets you up for a great day under the guidance of Adrian and Andy - there were 10 in the group on the day, plenty of space to work, good craic and always on hand to offer great advice (and put it right when you went off track..'Well that looks a bit different to when Adrian did it..'). Clear instruction and nicely paced you sensed you were clearly learning as you go. The whole experience was topped off wonderfully by the food on hand - tea/coffee on tap, great lunch and a double portion of crumble (always a winner in my book) - Debbie will be appearing in the Yorkshire 'Good Food Guide' soon in her own right. Great value and highly addictive ( - the Blacksmithing that is....)Very welcoming and relaxed. Thanks again for a great day. My 80 yr old Father in Law loved it - as did I. Thanks again - and we look forward to coming back again later in the year. Cheers!
Got the course as Christmas present from the wife and my dad came along as a present from my mam. All we could say all day was best Christmas present ever! We had an absolute blast all day and it’s so nice to get an insight into a true art. We enjoyed it so much we are booking onto the rams head poker course in September!
Thanks for a great day! Everything about it was good. A wonderful experience. Highly recommend it. Thank you! Steve Porter.
Had a really enjoyable day making our dragons and spirals!
Great fun, the right level of tutoring and guidance from the guys, lovely lunch and cake from Debbie, sense of achievement for us both and lots to think about afterwards!
Thank you so much
Andrea & Rob
...and Rob may be back!
What a fantastic day! Adrian and Andy were brilliant giving us all the info and confidence to create our projects.
The food and hospitality completely faultless. Thank you so much, you have awakened my inner blacksmith, already looking to come back and progress to the next level.
Fantastic day, learned loads and its give me confidence to do some blacksmith work at home. Excellent tutors who were very knowledgeable and supportive. Really enjoyed this experience and will be returning to do another course. Also the home cooked food is great. Thank you.
January 2019- We came to the taster day for our first ever blacksmithing experience and were so impressed with the course! Adrian, Debbie and Andy were so welcoming, the demonstrations were great and we got the opportunity to forge our own pieces to take home. We completed more forging than we expected and were so happy with our finished products!
Homemade lunch, snacks and cake provided by Debbie made the experience a perfect day out!
We would definitely recommend and may even be back to try the next course!
Thanks again!
Natalie and Greg (Huddersfield) :)
Great course with a range of technical tasks. Ability to work with some creative freedom and a very knowledgeable host. Would highly recommend.
We had an absolutely fantastic day and left with a great sense of satisfaction, and two functional items that we had made throughout the day. Andy and Adrian are great teachers, and the balance between guided work and time spent on your own is perfect. Debbie provided wonderful food and drink, and couldn't have been a better host. Will definitely be back.
What a great day. I’d been looking forward to it for ages and it surpassed my expectations. Can’t believe I managed to make what I did during the day but Adrian is a great teacher as well as an entertaining host. Debbies food throughout the day is also fantastic. Would I recommend this course? Yes absolutely and I will almost certainly be going back for another.
Hammering metal? Check.
Excellent advice? Check.
Amazing food & beverages? Check.
Beards? You'd better believe it.
Amazing day and would happily recommend to anybody else who feels like getting to grips with bending metal to your will.
Get it done. It's a no-brainer.
Really fun day learning about Blacksmithing! Who knew it was SO physical and intricate - it really gave me a good insight into how skilled Blacksmiths are. A great experience and a great idea for a 30th present with a difference!
Food was amazing too - thanks Debbie :)
A great day learning new skills in a friendly, safe and supportive environment. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who thinks it might be for them - don't doubt it - book a course and find out.
A very good day , tutors very skilled and fun to work with , lunch was very good with a very frendly atmosphere
Would recommend the course
Had a great day with Adrian, Andrew and Debbie in the Forge and actually successfully making something. From someone whose last foray in metalwork was 3 months trying unsuccessfully to file a 2" piece of metal square that is a great accolade. Not only was the tuition great but the food was wonderful as well. Thanks to everyone. Already have a few people interested in coming along to another day.
Absolutely brilliant day today with Adrian on today’s course!
Learned loads and he was always happy to answer questions and share his experience with this wannabe blacksmith!
Also have to say massive thank you to Debbie for supplying coffee, cake, biscuits and a delicious lunch!
I will definitely be back when I get the chance!
Cheers!
Very good day well managed and supported by two encouraging blacksmiths a lot of hammering in the heat of the forge and filling food supplied. Thanks
What can I say, a truly amazing experience. As a complete novice I was unsure of my ability but through the expertise of Adrian and Andy I managed to learn the basics of blacksmithing. Adrian and Andy were always on hand to give you advice when needed. Debbie also provided us with wonderful food and refreshments throughout the day.
The whole day was hugely enjoyable and I would highly recommend this to anyone who has an interest in the craft of blacksmithing.
At the end of the course I felt great sense of achievement and had two practicle hand forged items which I am very proud of.
Needless to say, I will definitely be attended future courses. Many thanks, Adrian, Andy and Debbie for a fantastic day.
Another fantastic day at the forge. Adrian and Andy are excellent tutors, helpful and supportive throughout the experience. We used some of the skills we learned on our taster day and tried new techniques such as fire welding! It was fab.
Thanks again for a fab day, we are now looking forwards to making garden flowers in the spring.

Great day, really interesting. Brilliant instruction, delicious food, excellent banter. Can't wait to come back.
The toolmaking course was the usual Wood experience with its mixture of useful practical information and humorous banter. I opted to do something different to the norm as I have made quite a few tongues in the past. I opted for a couple of scroll formers. No problem to Adrian he just let me carry on and make them, both he and Andy on hand for advice when needed. Thanks lads.
Debbies food was its usual excellence with the lemon drizzle cake exceedingly drizzly.
Brilliant day.
Brilliant! Thoroughly enjoyed everything from the excellent food to the excellent tuition. I now know how much energy and care goes into making metal objects. The arms and back are tired but my mind has been excited by the day.
Thanks again to you all.
I got this for by partners xmas presant last year he has loved it today he said he thoroughly enjoyed it and will be booking again thankyou
I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you, Adrian and Andy for what has been an outstanding experience today!
I’m knackered and my forearms hurt so much along with my back but it was all worth it to bring home the 2 masterpieces that I made of a dragon hanger set and the keyring.
From the first contact with you on email through to meeting you today and then the patience and support of the lads, it all went to make it a truly memorable day for me.
Your cooking is a loss to Darton but a gain to my waistline!
Thank you again, you’re a superb team and long may you be successful.
What a great day!
Andy and Adrian were great at sharing knowledge, providing useful tips and helping out us novices in a supportive and helpful way. There's so much to learn and this course was an excellent introduction.
Debbie provided great snacks, refreshing tea and a wholesome delicious lunch.
I'd thoroughly recommend the day for anyone wanting to learn a bit about blacksmithing or wanting to take it further. Be careful - it could become addictive.
Fire. Heat. Tools. Banging. Exhilarating. Sense of achievement. What’s not to like!!!A great day for all abilities, and the ‘little bit of help ‘ when I could no longer hold the hammer.
Thank you all.
Adrian and Andy are great blacksmiths and have just the right skills to train beginners. I thoroughly enjoyed the day but also not forgetting Debbie who provided snacks and a wholesome lunch. I brought home two great pieces of work which I am very proud of.
Excellent day out I would highly recommend it.
Great course, excellent food. Clear instructions leading to being able to make something that I didn't think was possible in such a short time I can thoroughly recommend this.
Was a Christmas Gift and very different to what we would normally do. We had a great day and everyone was very helpful. Would recommend to any one who wants to do something different.
A fantastic day, Ade, Andy and Debbie did a great job taking us through the work and helping us get it all done and feeding everyone. If you like making things then this is a must for you, I would very much recommend this
Fantastic day ( flowers ) my 4 th course Adrian and Andy are on hand to solve any problems. Debbie provides fantastic food from home made cakes and biscuits to a fabulous vegetarian lunch followed by cheese and a gorgeous pudding.
I can't believe what can be created under the expert tuition of Adrian and Andy
Brilliant Brilliant day .
Be warned you lot I'll be back along with Dax . You have been warned lol XXX
This is the 4th time I have been out to play with Adrian, Andy and Debbie. Once again what a fantastic day. This time was the flower course. We made 2 flute Lilley, one with more traditional petals, a fantastic rose and some curly bits as accent pices.
As always Adrian does a demo of each step then he and Andy walk round the room pointing out hints and tips and helping where needed and partaking of a good bit of banter.
I have done a lot of different "experience" days and these guys run the best of the lot.
In fact I am going to go one further, you don't come here to experience what it would be like to be a blacksmith, you come here to be a blacksmith.
Thank you very much guys, I am looking forward to my next visit.
I was bought this taster day as a birthday present.
It was an excellent experience. Many have commented already about the food on offer and that starts as soon as you arrive with the homemade biscuits and flapjacks, then continues with a tasty and large portioned lunch and even ends with cake. All of this is well earned in the rare uk heat wave spent at the forges.
The sessions were pitched perfectly building confidence and slowly developing the skills to make the two items to take home. It was tiring but I really did leave wanting more. I really can’t recommend these folk highly enough both in patience, skills and relaxed personalities.
Many thanks
Simon
A fantastic day! I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of it. Thank you.
What a brilliant course. Ade and Andy keep an eye on you and I guess assess your needs. They only step in to advise/help where necessary. Quite frequent for me. It did seem that everyone on the course was well covered by the two mentors who did not seem to mind the diversity of talent and attended with great good humour.
The food. Oh the food! Debbie makes great food. Debbie is used to feeding Ade and Andy. No small job! Both of these guys are built like blacksmiths. Beware at dinner time, you may not be able to move too well afterwards.
Excellent course.
Trev
I’ve wanted to try my hand at blacksmithing for many years, and so when a colleague recommended this course, I asked my husband to buy me a place on the course as my Christmas present. I was a little apprehensive when I walked into the barn to find myself the only woman (apart from Debbie) among a group of big guys with beards! But Adrian and Andy reassured me that I’d be fine, and it turned out to be a brilliant day! Everyone has their own anvil and tools to work with, so you can concentrate fully on your piece and get a real sense of achievement when it is complete. Andy was great - when I struggled he was always on hand to help out, fixing the occasional mistake, and encouraging me, to get me on track again. Debbie’s food was wonderful! My son was so impressed with my dragon coat hook, he now wants to do the course himself! I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to learn a new skill, do something creative, and doesn’t mind getting sweaty and dirty, even a 58 year old woman like myself!
A great day the forge with Adrian and Andy. I love the dragon coat rack we made, it now takes pride of place in my man shed.
Debbie makes a great lunch, the cheesecake was out of this world.
Would love to go again and learn some more skills. Am already wondering how to convince the wife to let me get a gas forge!
Thanks for a great day.
Ade and his team were fabulous and informative. At no point did you feel that they would take over and finish your piece they really are keen for you to do it yourself . I would highly reccomend the taster course . Really great food too and plènty of it . I will be back again!!! Thankyou for a great day.
Thanks Adrian and the team for a great two day course. As a beginner in blacksmithing I find it extremely enjoyable to have expert tuition on hand yet the freedom to have a go without being overlooked. Adrian has a very positive style and attitude and gives value to your efforts and results.
Anyone reading this and wondering if they could do it, I'd say have a go. You're in great hands. Thanks again.
A brilliant day for me and my father. My dads first time at the forge and my second. Adrian and Andy were great meaning that dad and the rest of the class could do the beginners course while I did something a little different. The guys and Debbie are brilliant making you feel right at home as soon as you step through the door creating a wonderful relaxed atmosphere so everyone can get on making their own treasured creations. This course is great letting you channel your inner artist into making something from a lump of steel or if your like me and not the artistic type you get to learn some great skills ( Plus there's something intoxicating about hitting hot metal with a hammer!!!) Artist or engineer you'll love this course, it's great therapy and hugely satisfying creating something from scratch by hand.
I cannot recommend this enough, my second visit and i'll be back for a third!!
I paid for a course for myself and my partner Debbie, christmas present for her! (do I know how to show a girl a good time?) and we both loved it......class size was just right, the instruction and guidance given throughout the day was excellent and the food was unbelievable......and so much of it too. We will be signing up for a return visit.
Craig
I did the introductory 1 day course and thought it was excellent. A well equipped workshop and your own anvil to work at. Instruction was thorough yet concise, meaning you could get stuck in to trying your hand at forging in a very short space of time. The food by Debbie was excellent and abundant - the cheesecake was a particular favourite. Adrian and Andy are very willing and able to answer any questions you have. I have already recommended the course to a friend and would consider doing a further course myself when I get the time.
Me and my wife spent a day with Adrian and Andy and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, by the end of the day we were shattered but filled with a sense of achievement. The day starts off with a health and safety message and then onto the demonstrations to guide you through the build of your metal creations, Adrian and Andy were there to offer help and guidance as needed, and Debbie provided the wonderful home cooked creations that kept us sustained throughout the day.
A day I can thoroughly recommend, so enjoyable and satisfying.
This course was a gift from my daughter and son-in-law for a milestone birthday and was a complete surprise.
From the outset it was obvious that this was going to be a relaxed (maybe not the right description come 4 o'clock) and enjoyable day with great knowledge, guidance and direction, as well as some stories and 'jokes', from the guys and lovely home cooking from Debbie.
Everything was explained and demonstrated well and apart from the odd blister for those wielding hammers for possibly the first time there were no problems!!
Was it worth going? - Yes
Did I meet some interesting people? - Yes
Would I attend another course here? - Yes
Would I recommend it to others? - Most definitely
Thank you very much.
I had loads of fun, there was good guidance on blacksmithing techniques. The lunch was nice because we had burgers made on the forge. Thank you for a fun and creative day.
Response from A W Artist Blacksmiths:
Hi Charlie,Had a really great day at the forge, right from the start of the day to the end it was very well organised. Great welcome from Debbie with a cuppa and cake, atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. Once Adrian went through the health & safety it was straight in to the blacksmithing which is what people want. Within half an hour of starting we had our first piece of steal in the fire. Adrian gave really clear demonstrations and let us go to work but was always on hand with help if needed. Debbie also provided a delicious big lunch.
This was a gift from my wife, so as a gift it's great for all ages and abilities.
Really enjoyed the day, the tuition and friendliness of Adrian and David and the lovely food provided by Debbie.
It was hard work but worth every minute to learn the techniques and appreciate the skill of a Blacksmith in general. David's work is lovely anyway but his generocity in advice and help is really appreciated
This was a gift from my son and daughter to help me appreciate the medium of metal and to help with my own business of glass by bringing the two mediums together. It certainly achieved that for me. I now feel better equiped to communicate with the metal worker about my requirements but I have also learnt a new skill which I would like to explore further, but perhaps not become a Blacksmith :-) Thank you Adrian, Debbie and David for the wonderful day.
I would like to thank Adrian and Debbie for a fantastic day at the forge, the day was bought for me by my daughters for my birthday, the content and delivery of the tuition in my opinion was faultless the lunch and refreshments was first class and I came away feeling like a blacksmith even though that is some way off can't wait to go back.
The day bought for me as a surprise gift for my birthday.
A most enjoyable experience , the hosts very helpful and guided me through every stage of the day. I was most pleased with the items i made and will be a forever reminder of a brilliant day. Would highly recommend.
Thankyou,
Regards
Richard
We had a great day, the course was very informative and fun. It was a nice sized group, not too many. The lunch and homebakes were delicious.
An excellent day, that I can recommend to anyone willing to get their hands dirty to achieve something in a day. At 71 years old, I was a little apprehensive at going near to a forge, but the instruction and support from Adrian and Andy was just great. And the techniques we used to bend and fashion metal into something useful and decorative were enlightening. Thanks also to Debbie for the excellent lunch and other refreshments during the day. Thank you all.
What a fabulous day. Great atmosphere, lovely people and superb instruction. Oh yes and great food! Anyone who is interested in trying this out but unsure of their ability should attend one of these courses. Importantly one goes away with not only a sense of achievement but also genuine 'respect' for this craft and the people involved with it. David & Susan Davies
I bought two places on the course for my husband for Christmas. The idea was to have a nice day out together doing something different and have some fun.
Adrian and Andy were great tutors, provided demonstrations and guidance whilst working. We had a good laugh along the way and brought home a key ring and a dragon with three coat hooks each.
Debbie was in charge of the catering and lunch and the supply of flapjack/cake were both delicious.
We had a lovely day and will be back. Thank you!
My wife bought me the course for a retirement gift (probably to get me out from under her feet for a day) ...and what a day it turned out to be! I was made welcome by Adrian, Andy and Debbie and the fun began. Adrian demonstrated the items to be made and then it was in at the deep end with Adrian and Andy on hand to guide us through each part of the processes. Adrian is an excellent and patient instructor and although my makes were obviously not as good as his I was delighted with the items which I took home. Unfortunately I also took home some extra pounds too because although my wife as put me on a diet since I retired, Debbie.....the hostess with the mostest! ....plied us with the most amazing refreshments throughout the day. All in all a most splendid day and highly recommended. A thank you to all concerned.
Possibly one of the best 'Me days' I have had... Adrian and Andy are there to support and guide you through the briefs. I came away very much inspired by the work they do and certainly with more practical knowledge than I turned up with. I am delighted with my creations and am now the envy of friends and family who have seen them. I did spend most of the trip home to Leeds working out my own home forge!
Debbie's delicious veggie cuisine, cakes and bakes at lunchtime and afternoon tea are definitely something to look forward to along with the sense of achievement you'll get after an industrious few hours in the forge.
I would have no hesitation recommending the taster course, I hope to be back to visit very soon!
I attended this course with my son- a 21st Birthday gift from his sister and a 60th birthday gift for myself from my son. After an early start to get there we were greeted by Debbie with a hot drink and delicious flapjack. Adrian gave us our first demonstration and then we proceeded to make our first object- a keyring. Adrian and Andy were there to support and guide us but allowed us to get on with the job in hand. Both were encouraging and helpful.
We then proceeded onto the dragon coat hook which is great.
Debbie did us proud with a super lunch and cakes. The group were lovely and it felt relaxed throughout.
We came home with our achievements and great experiences. We both thoroughly enjoyed the day. We would highly recommend this course to all.
I had an excellent day from beginning to end. Debbie provides an excellent selection of delicious homemade sweet treats and a particularly excellent lunch. Adrian and Andy are excellent instructors and are both very friendly and helpful as they mingle with the various students having different levels of success with steel! Thoroughly enjoyable and very strongly recommended. A+ all round.
Fantastic day...
Adrian and Debbie are the perfect hosts, excellent tuition throughout the day from Adrian, extremely knowledgeable light hearted with no pressure or expectation.
The whole group supported throughout, Lunch was very good a vegetarian stew and baked potatoes followed by apple crumble delicious! The day flew by and we all left with two very well made momentoms..
Would highly recommend this course well worth every penny.
Thank you for a great day.
I booked the day for my dad and me for his birthday. We were really well looked after and got to get really stuck in and make some fantastic projects.
The day was excellent. The staff were knowledgeable, but also affable, welcoming and very approachable. Being even more feeble than I thought I was, my arm was jelly before we broke for lunch, but i still managed to create a coat rack that looked like a dragon (if i squint at it) and is very usable. While the tasks seemed initially daunting, the smiths were always close to hand and willing to help (like when you can't lift the hammer anymore and they kindly assist while the shaking subsides from your hand) . The food during lunch was very good, with a hearty rustic taste. Everyone was warm and welcoming and i would, and will, recommend it to others. A really fun day.
A wonderful day. We were warmly greeted by our hosts - Adrian, Debbie and Andy and after a hot drink and a few essential preliminaries were shown how to make our first item. So , within half an hour of arrival, nine hammers were being applied to nine pieces of red hot steel. Throughout the day, the level of supervision and help was extremely well judged - Adrian and Andy were always available to guide us or demonstrate but did not in anyway intrude. The first items were complete by coffee time and then we were set to work on a much more comprehensive piece involving many different blacksmithing techniques. All the participants looked doubtful that they could create something resembling the demonstration piece but by mid afternoon, incredibly, we all had. Our endeavours were only interrupted by an extremely good and wholesome home-made lunch - thanks Debbie! All nine participants left having had a enjoyable and very memorable day and feeling they had really learned something and achieved something. Ten out of ten for Adrian, Andy and - of course - Debbie. Many thanks. It had been worth every mile of the drive from North Wales.
What a brilliant way to spend a day....and to come home with two items that I could be proud of. A key ring and a dragon 3 hook coat hanger. My husband was also with me so a little bit of competition was going on as well! Interesting to learn new techniques with very helpful instructions and clear demonstration but with out them intruding into your learning experience but there when needed.
Catering was excellent... few pounds heavier as Debbie makes an excellent flapjack besides a great lunch.
Would highly recommend a go, lots of fun, hard work but fulfilling.
What a great day! I've done metalwork before but not forging - I'm hooked now! Really good tuition from Adrian and Andy with clear demonstrations and plenty of help when it went a bit pear shaped. Debbie does a great job on the catering front with never ending drinks and flapjack and really nice lunch.
Overall, we both really enjoyed the day and came away with a couple of completed useful projects. Can't wait to get on another course!
I can't thank you guys enough ... I had an awesome day, and came away buzzing with the one and only craft done by myself :)
The coat hooks I made will make a lovely addition to my house .
Teaching was expertly broken down to easy steps, all coming together brilliantly.
Can't wait to book onto another course soon.
Food was lovely and home prepared, lemon drizzle cake to die for.
Thank you once again Adrian , Debbie and the whole team that made this run so well .
Carwyn
Had great time, course covered loads different things, help and advice was given at all times. Very friendly relaxed atmosphere, highly recommend it for anyone. Big shout for Debbie's food, might have to email her for the recipe .
A very enjoyable and constructive day. Excellent instruction from Adrian - even I could follow. Good assistance if needed. Very pleased with my creations in iron woohoo!!!
The food was excellent. Thank you Debbie.
Well worth a visit.
Absolutely brilliant day on the blacksmithing course everyone was incredibly friendly and the help received from Adrian Andy and Debbie was great!
Would definitely recommend to anyone who has an interest in metalwork or art! Even if they don’t feel particularly practical or artistic. The course will help them massively.
Cracking day! Great instructors, we all got straight into work from the off, help is given where needed but you're given plenty of time to work by yourself and get stuck in. Nice relaxed atmosphere, small group size with an anvil each. Would definitely recommend to a friend. Oh and the food is excellent and there is plenty of it!
Had the course bought for me as a birthday present and didn't know what to expect but thoroughly enjoyed the day Adrian and Andy are both great guys who explained what to do and how to do it and then let us get on with it without jumping in so we all managed to complete our tasks in our own time. The food was all home cooked and had more than an army could eat. Will be booking a return trip definitely. Thanks to the team for a great day.
Adrian, Andy and Debbie made a cold day in March a more than warm and hospitable day. Friendliness exuded from every moment, I travelled for two hours having felt really jaded and worn out from work and wasn't sure if I had the ability to enjoy my 50th birthday present.
But enjoy it I did, the teaching was excellent, informative, erudite and witty. I gained so much new knowledge and skills it was truly awesome. Then it was interspersed with Debbie mouth watering fayre, not to mention the array of distinguished cheeses (all with a wonderful local provenance).
I am most definitely a late convert to blacksmithing, wished I had done this earlier and I can't wait to go back for my next course. A five star course given by five star people.
For anyone interested in a Blacksmiths taster day I can strongly recommend AW Blacksmithing Courses . Adrian and Andy provided excellent instruction with a very friendly attitude along with Debbie's catering which was absolutely wonderful. My thanks to the three of them for an enjoyable day, It was a great day that I'll never forget.
We bought the experience for our son’s Christmas gift.
The booking process was so easy from start to finish. Debbie was a great help with choosing the right course, and gave advice on the local area for Mum & Dad.
The food was fantastic and there was plenty of it.
Ben had a fantastic time and was made to feel very welcome. Andy and Adrian were brilliant. They gave clear instruction and encouragement but didn’t micromanage.
Ben would love to go back so we are looking at a course to do as a family.
A highly recommended experience.
Brilliant day. I’ve been interested in blacksmithing since seeing a display in a historical museum in the US. There was only me and my other half there so the blacksmith talked us through everything he was doing in meticulous detail, and then gave us the hook he made to show us.
I thought ‘I want to do that’
Then my other half bought me this course for Christmas.
And it was excellent.
Very good instruction, you realise quickly you have zero muscle memory for this sort of activity, but as you get through your first project and start getting the hang of things, you find enormous enjoyment from it. And you leave the course with a few bits of metal work that YOU produced.
Top tip: wear a hat. Bits of dust from the fires gets everywhere and lands all over your hair, drink, clothes etc. Not an issue but I didn’t think about that at all.
You will be breathing it in all day as well, so consider that.
Great food is served home made by Debbie. More cakes than you’ll know what to do with too!
Great day. Already booked on my next one.
The whole day far exceeded my expectations: from the warm friendly welcome (which continued throughout the day), to the direction and support given by both Adrian and Andy. I nervously approached this course never believing I could possibly make something out of metal but came away on a high, with a dragon hanger and snail key-ring, which I had made myself! I wholeheartedly would recommend this course to anyone who has an interest in making something from metal. On top of which I was fed delicious home cooked food and kept in supply of tea and cake. Thank you for the experience. Will be booking another course soon.
Adrian and Andy, what a great day - I never realised how much fun could be had hammering for 7 hours! Seriously, you run a superb course, informative with clear instructions delivered in a relaxed and enjoyable day.
Debbie, the food was lovely..
I have a new skill, yippee...watch out Thor!
Thanks again,
Jon
This is a fantastic day. It was so much fun learning what to do and having a go at all the techniques. It gives you such a sense of achievement to take away what you have made. Lunch was great too. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable day.
This was an amazing introduction into the world of blacksmithing! Practically from the moment we arrived we were given a hands-on introduction and were getting stuck in before we knew it. We were very involved throughout the entire day and were encouraged to just get involved and ask for help when needed; both Adrian and Andy are very experienced blacksmiths who were very friendly and approachable and happy to help out where needed.
Debbie was on site to provide a constant stream of refreshments and the homecooked and locally sourced lunch was definitely welcome, I think we all worked up a huge appetite as the morning progressed. Everyone involved went to great lengths to make us feel welcome and to provide an entertaining day and they were certainly successful in their efforts.
This course was booked for me as a surprise Christmas present and I was very happy to receive it; the snail key ring and dragon coat hook we made on the day have found a proud place in my house. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to try something practical and unusual and I have already looked into attending another course myself, I’d love to return!
It was an amazing blacksmithing day. Very entertaining from the first minute. We made a dragon coat rack and a snail key ring. Andy and Adrian are really experienced blacksmiths and they were extremely helpful and nice during all the day. Debbie is also very cool and gave us really good food, coffee, tea, cakes and so on - everything handmade! I received an invitation to attend this course as a wedding gift from my friends last year, so I went alone. I am sure that I will repeat the experience, but next time I will be attending with my wife. She will greatly enjoy it too!
It was a full and busy day with quick demos and then getting stuck in for ourselves. You very quickly learn different techniques in steps that you build on over the day, gaining confidence in working with metal. Adrian & Andy help you learn and share interesting stories of their time blacksmithing.
I am not in the least bit artistic, so I was amazed to go home with work that I am proud of. It is clear that a lot of thought and effort has gone into both the format of the day and the things we made.
I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to try something practical and satisfying.
If you want to try new things that you might only do once in your life then you have to do this course. Great set up from start to finish, well looked after by Adrian and Debbie. As stated in other reviews, after a quick chat over coffee, a bit of health & safety and guidance you are pretty much straight into smashing red hot bits of steel with hammers as you set out making your first item! The environment is excellent as it is a proper barn on a working farm, the noise, the dirt, the heat of furnaces, the aching arms of swinging hammer blows make it a really authentic experience and an fascinating insight how a blacksmiths runs on a day to day basis. Photographs and videos are encouraged to take home memories of the experience. Debbie's home cooked food was outstanding as was selection of breads and cheeses. The other participants made the day memorable too. All in all an outstanding experience.
An amazing full day of blacksmithing. Whilst I thought it might be an easy introduction, we were straight into it! flaming furnaces, hot metal, anvils, hammers. Before we knew it we had made stuff! Brilliant. Help on hand to assist and encourage. Everyone makes a coat hook but there is scope to personalise and make it your own. Good food and good conversation around the lunch table. Fab day worth every penny and the few months of anticipation. Warning - don't plan anything big for that evening. We were fast asleep by 9pm!
Fabulous day at the blacksmithing course. Very knowledgeable, patient and experienced course leaders. Warm welcome and we brought our keyring and dragon coat hanger home with pride. You get the opportunity to make the items yourself, with guidance and actually feel like you have achieved something. Worth every penny.
Had a really great day last Saturday making a dragon coat hook and key ring. A really unusual and satisfying birthday present and a lasting result to take home. Enjoyed the banter and company. We were shown how to do the various stages and given guidance as and when we needed it.
Great atmosphere, good company and not forgetting great food!
Many thanks.
What a satisfying day. My youngest daughter bought me this day as a birthday present. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and would recommend it to anyone. Adrians tuition was first class as was Andys help; Debbie has to be commended for the excellent catering. This is a day you can disappear into. Thankyou
At 46 this is the first review I've ever left - the course was so enjoyable & valuable, I'm compelled to make comment.
Ade 's instruction was spot on, plus I was picking his brains on all things blacksmithing, I learnt so much - the day flew by.
I'm quite amazed at the pieces I made, by far exceeded my expectations.
I'm a veggie & gluten intollerant, Debbie & Ade could not of been more accommodating.
I'm defiantly setting myself up at home with a little fire pit & anvil in the garden to play.
In todays world of smart phones & tech, to be in that room in front of a fire pit hitting a glowing red hot steel bar on an anvil was so grounding, primal, it felt just great! I urge all to give it a go - let the stress melt away.
10 out of 10, I'll defiantly be back for more.
I was given this days course as birthday present and I can say it was one of the best courses I’ve been on. The location was really nice and the forge was very well equipped. Both Adrian and Andy were excellent instructors, very friendly and helpful. I would really recommend this to anyone wishing to try this out for the first time.
This was my first experience of blacksmithing so I had little idea of what to expect. The day was absolutely fantastic. Very practical and hands-on right from the start with great supervision and coaching from Adrian and Andy. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and the time flew by. As an absolute beginner it was amazing to come away with a couple of finished pieces. This gave me the confidence to want to come back and have another go which I am planning to do soon. Thanks for an excellent course - good company, great humour and some new skills to practice. Also the lunch was delicious - thanks Debbie!
Amazing course. Learned so much it took a few day to process it all!! Really pleased with the Rams Head Poker and fire tools that I made. It was a long journey to get here but worth every minute of it. Not quite sure where the day went! Will 100% be back for more. I am hooked on blacksmithing... just got to find a way to dump the day job!! Thanks again!
great welcome and excellent food. The atmosphere is conducive to learning with great instruction from Adrian and his assistant .
My wife was really pleased with the candle holder I made and it will have pride of place on the Christmas dining table . Thank you
What a great experience!
The warm welcome (and Debbie’s excellent cake) sets you up for the rest of the day. Adrian and Andy took the group step by step through making a rams-head poker, that I wouldn’t have thought I could manage. The day was well paced and well explained explained. Lunch was delicious and hearty (thanks again Debbie!). Then in the afternoon the chance to be creative with making a toasting fork of your own design. (Oh, and more cake to finish!)
What’s not to like?
My 3rd course all fantastic just booking my next try it you will love it x
Excellent day, would strongly advise anyone who fancies a go at hammering some hot metal & making something cool to have a go.
Really great day, thank you Adrian, Andy and Debbie for the lovely food, great tuition and your patience. We had a great day and would 100% recommend this day. Katie and Andrew
Brilliant day around even with the blisters, fantastic tuition very patient attitude with complete novice like myself.
Great banter within the group , really enjoyed the crumble at lunch.
Would recommend this course to any one.
Thank you very much.
Best wishes
Rik👻🦊🎉
Thank you, Adrian, Andy & Debbie for a great day, friendly and educational we felt at home from the outset. Excellent tuition from true craftsmen, helping us to create decent representations of the key ring and dragon coat hooks, fuelled on by some great home cooking and good banter. Brilliant.
Cheers, Alan, Carl & Kieran.
Fantastic course. Everything was really well explained, there was assistance whenever needed and demonstrations of techniques.
Everyone was really friendly and the pace of the course was great. There was no rushing and everyone got time to catch up.
I honestly cant speak highly enough of this day and we will definatley be back next year.
Possibly the best birthday present ever. Thank you for an amazing day with fire metal and cake. Adrian and Andy are both great teacher's and fantastic artists. I cannot recommend this course enough.
Brilliant day, would not change a thing. Thanks again.
An exellent day has got me hooked on blacksmithing, great teachers who go through each step with you and you get to keep what you make would definitely recommend to anyone looking to start blacksmithing
Given as a birthday present, something I've always wanted to try and I had an excellent day. What 50 year old child wouldn't enjoy playing with fire and hitting things with hammers?
I look at the key ring and dragon coat hook I made and however proud I am, I know that I could do it better and want to do it again. And again.
I met some wonderful people, who I hope to meet again on further courses. The instruction and guidance was exceptional and truly professional.
In deference to Adrian and Andy's ego's, I won't mention how good Debbie's food was!
A truly fantastic day! We had such fun doing our blacksmithing course, the instruction was first class, both guys were very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The food was great, just wish my end results had been as good :-) .... would recommend this day to everyone.
Absolutely brilliant. I bought my husband the day for Christmas but I'm so pleased I tagged along. Adrian, Andy and Debbie are so likeable, friendly and knowledgeable you couldn't fail to have an excellent day. Debbie's food was faultless too which made the day even better. Such a great experience. Thanks so much.
This course was a surprise gift for my 60th birthday and what a good day. The booking arrangements (I am told) were excellent and efficient and the directions were spot on.
We had a full day punctuated by a lovely lunch, including some excellent local cheeses, where we were shown how to create a key ring out of steel rod and then to create an artistic dragon coat hook ( it was artistic for some but not all of us) . The support and supervision were very good.
We both had a great day, thank you
Brilliant! What a great day. This was a gift for my 21st and i couldnt think of a better way to have spent it. Im really proud of my dragon coat hook and cant wait to put it up. The group was lovely and i had two fantastic teachers! Cant wait to come back!
This is an amazing course with excellent host/teachers. I had absolutely no previous experience however, it did not matter in the slightest. All skills are clearly explained and demonstrated and there is continuous support if and when needed. The team are a brilliant laugh and make you feel extremely welcomed! The lunch provided is excellent, the only downside was that I didn't manage to finish the amazing cheesecake!
Thank you for a brilliant day!
What a deeply satisfying way to spend a day!
Whilst everyone made the same things, they were all unique one-off pieces created with much patient direction, guidance and banter from the resident blacksmiths.
Throw in the odd blister and lemon drizzle cake to finish a fabulous day. What could be better.
Wow! What an amazing day we had. From the moment we arrived to the minute we left we were looked after. Amazingly skilled guys Adrian and Andy, who introduced us to what we were going to be doing, gave plenty of support during the day and awesome tools and materials to use. There was more than enough challenge to really get your teeth into the art of blacksmithing. There is also the bonus of a home cooked lunch to die for (Debbie - YUM!) - had we not had an afternoon of banging metal to be getting on with I think we'd have all had a full-stomach nap.
All in all an amazing experience, met some lovely people and we will be back for more. Go on this course, it is fantastic.
What a fantastic day, highly recommended. I'll definately be back. Many Thanks
A superb day with excellent tuition throughout. Highly recommended!!!
Want to get hot and sweaty with strangers in a friendly relaxed atmosphere? look no further.
Really interesting and fun day spent with fun and interesting people doing something most people will never get the chance to do.
Reccomend it to anyone with even the slightest interst in making things
Was a great surprise birthday gift.
Unique experience, enjoyed the whole day......just leave room for the cakes
Absolutely fantastic day with Adrian, Andy and Debbie, brilliant course, brilliant food, brilliant (very talented) people. I will definitely be back soon
What a thoroughly wonderful day! From the start it was a great friendly atmosphere with 8 blacksmith hopefuls. The tuition was 5 star from both Andy and Adrian who covered all basics, H&S and some great tips to add the quality finishing touches. It was sweaty, educational and most of all great fun, I'm sure we all could have lost quite a few stone if it wasn't for the 'to-die-for' food provided by Debbie (and Adrian's contribution to the home made bread buns) I have come away with a less than perfect coat hook but I love it and I'm proud as punch that I made it. It will go on display in our new home. The key ring will be put to great use too. I would highly recommend any of their courses.
I have spent a really enjoyable day today learning some of the basic skills of blacksmithing with Adrian and Andy, and benefited from Debbie's great food.
Adrian gave clear demonstrations of technique, then sent us to go off and try for ourselves. It was fun bashing the hot metal into shape, though it would be hard work doing it for a living!
Adrian and Andy were very patient and were always ready to assist and answer questions.
Thanks very much - it was a great birthday present!
We have attended many of these courses and all are 5 star. The enthusiasm, knowledge and endless patience shown by Adrian is unbelievable. My only complaint is with the catering. Never have I tried such delicious lemon drizzle, flapjack and cheesecake - it is now impossible to resist - thanks Debbie! Thank you to Adrian, Debbie and Andy once again. See you soon
I cannot fault this superb team.
They can somehow turn a day of hard labour into a magical and creative act!
I cannot thank them enough for the experience's I have had.
Excellent day all round. Blacksmithing couldn't be further away from my day job, but as an enthusiastic Youtube viewer I really wanted to try it out. I fear, however, I may have caught the bug, and am certainly looking at taking more courses, if not going the whole hog and buying my own mini-forge!
Excellent hands-on teaching and guidance from Adrian and Andy, and managed to knock up a couple of acceptable pieces of metalwork by the end of the day - although more practice needed to hone the 'finesse' required to make truly beautiful things!
Refreshments were excellent, as was the banter.
Will definitely be coming again! Thoroughly recommend it
Loved it. This course was excellent, and a birthday present. Adrian and Andy pitched the course perfectly for us entry level starters and made every step achievable which gave you the confidence to 'hammer' on. Safety was paramount and the pace was just right. The food was delicious and plentyful, - all home made.
This was a great insight into a dying art but for those bitten by the fire bug, there are additional courses to follow which I'm personally looking forward to such as bar-b-que tools day.
We'll done guys, and we enjoyed the recommendation of the Old Farm House pub.
Fantastic day with a really supportive and professional instructor's , the whole day was really relaxed . You get a great feel of what it's like working as a blacksmith .
The provided food was great , sooo much and very tasty
From the moment you walk in the door you are made so welcome and it doesn't stop until the end of the day
What more can I say , fantastic day and experience!!
Excellent learning experience and throughly enjoyable.
What a Great team, Adrian and Andy never fazed at questions and hands on help. It's hard work but everyone on the course was happy to help each other and worked together
What a great day, although I've played about with bits of metal in the past the art of blacksmithing has never come my way, but under the expert guidance of Adrian and Andy I have gained another skill in the crafting of metal. Also the catering by Debbie from tea and biscuits on arrival to cake and coffee at the end of the day was first class. Many thanks to all the team for a truly enjoyable day. Hope to be back for round two before too long. Dave.
Absolutely fantastic time doing this course today. Never thought it could be so addictive!! The whole team where very professional and friendly. I would definitely do another course, it was awesome. (The food was also amazing!!
Laughing whilst handling hot chunks of metal is not something I had ever envisioned but laugh we did...all day! A great group of people from all walks of life and a brilliant taster session into the basics of metalworking.
Okay...so my keyring was a tad left field, and my dragon coat hook may take a little interpretation or a degree in modern art to grasp my effort, but it hangs proudly in the spa at home now as a towel holder (Him indoors was tasked to position it immediately and it hasn't fallen apart).......However in all seriousness, Adrian and Andy are master craftsmen who gave me the confidence as a women who didn't know which end of a hammer to hold, to have a go - to let go and they were on hand if needed to offer support (to fix the wonky dragon head - thanks Andy!).
Catering supplied by Debbie was outstanding - clearly Debbie is to catering, what Adrian is to Metalworking - vast amounts of food, all homemade and thoroughly scrummy!
I cannot recommend this course and these guys enough - an absolutely brilliant day and I didn't want it to end - suffice to say, I'm awaiting the 2018 courses and I'll be back for more......
Absolutely brilliant. Adrian and Andy were beyond helpful, went through everything slowly enough that you could understand and remember the steps, but not too slowly that you felt you were standing around for ages. The pieces we got to make (dragon coat hanger and keyring) were challenging enough to forge without being too hard for a total beginner and the atmosphere was light hearted, so you never felt you were being rushed on to the next task.
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my day and can't thank everyone involved enough. I'll hopefully be back!
Peter
P.s. THE FOOD IS AMAZING!
Had a fantastic day on Saturday.
To say I'm not incredibly useful with my hands is an understatement, but on Saturday I bent metal to my will (ish).
I've creates a keyring and a dragon, learned to taper and bend and use hammers, tongs (tricky as hell BTW, there's no grace to a tong, it's just there to make you feel inadequate, trust me it's the tong) and had first class education in steel, how to heat it and other small techniques.
This won't make you an ace blacksmith, but it'll certainly give you the bug and confidence to go set up a small forge, get a hammer and mould metal to your will for longer.
I warned my partner that doing this course would be expensive. I'm about to drop £200 on an anvil, so the course is great value for money, the hobby may hurt more.
Well organised. Clear instructions and well tutored. Refreshments excellent. A great bunch of people, the structure of the course means that strangers at the begining of the day soon learn how to work together. I would thoroughly recommend it.5
What a great day!
Coffee and home made biscuits to get you going, followed by a great day learning new skills. When it went wrong, Adrian and Andy soon sorted my mistakes!
Put a great lunch between the morning and afternoon sessions, with a pair of excellent tutors in blacksmithing, and it doesn't get better.
Will definitely go back for more!
What an unusual and brilliant day! Led by people that are clearly passionate about what they do, and keen to share their experience in a supportive manner without being overbearing.
Great day
Ten out of ten - would hammer again
I attended the taster course on 23rd April 2017 I was very pleased by the speed at which we got into working hot metal. The instruction and demonstration by Adrian was clear and easy to understand and once work was underway if you were unsure about anything Adrian and Andy were always happy and on hand to advise. I was totally satisfied by what I achieved on the day, I also gained a clear understanding of the skills that are necessary for a blacksmith to work at the speed and accuracy that is exhibited by Adrian and Andy.
Debbie provided hospitality that could not be bettered with lots of hot drinks and food that was tasty and satisfying.
Thanks to all of the team for a wonderful day!!
Another Brilliant course from the entire team!
me and the wife decided to do another course after our taster day, and we went with garden flowers, this was much more a free form sort of day, after the usual safety discussions and some basic instructions we were free to create something unique, which was a little worrying as we had to rely on our own imagination rather than step by step instructions.
However, any fears were quickly dismissed as Adrian and his co-worker Andy quickly realised who was struggling and offered types of decorations, ways of embellishing and finishing and at the end of the day everyone on the course had a work of art and everyone had something different!
as usual the food provided by Debbie was outstanding, its worth going for the food!!
we had a brilliant day and are looking at dates to come back again!
What a great day!
Adrian and Andy were very relaxed in their approach, which put at ease all the nerves you might have had. They provided just the right level of support to get you up and going and within an hour the whole group was well on its way to forging a key ring, which was a great way to break people into the tools and techniques needed to produce the more complicated Dragon Coat Hanger in the afternoon. The guys were on hand to advise or at times correct the errors we all made, but always with an encouraging approach.
The food that Debbie made were excellent and I certainly wasn't hungry at any point in the day!
I really would recommend this course and have already mentioned to 2 of my friends, who are busy booking up.
Thanks for a great day at the forge! enjoyable, informative and fantastic food. Already wanting to further my skills on one of your bbq courses.
A fantastic day. Excellent instruction in a fun environment and the food was outstanding. We were straight into the action of hitting metal with no time wasted. I've been on eBay already looking at forges....
A great day out with great people!
Adrian and Andy are real characters and they have a relaxed way of showing you how to use the forge and tools to make the key ring and the Dragon Coat Hanger.
The group were taken through the stages to make the two items and then we moved to our anvils to just do it!
The guys were always on hand to advise and at times correct the errors I made, but always with a laugh and encouragement.
The lunch and afternoon cakes that Debbie made were superb and went down well with all!
Thanks to you all for an exceptional day! I will be back for round two!
An excellent introduction to a craft I've always admired - the day went so quickly!
I hadn't been able to attend the 'Beginners' course, but Andy and Adrian more than brought me up to speed. The balance between being taught the basics of a range of techniques then going on to apply them was just right - now I 'just' need to practice them (er, rather a lot).
Book now! Whatever you do, don't be deterred by the idea that it'll be too much like physical labour - it's more about technique than simply hitting bits of metal as hard as you can. Well, unless you want to.
Many thanks for an inspiring day. And great food!
This was my second course with Adrian and Andy. Again the tuition was excellent, learning to make a flower for the garden. Everything is provided and it's very good value for money. The lunch and snacks provided by Debbie were also excellent and there was a friendly atmosphere throughout the day. I would very much recommend the course if you're interested in learning a new skill or just curious about the craft.
This was my second section with Adrian and Andy took me back to my school days when you learnt a manual useful hands on skill .
Brilient tuition from both , always on hand to guid and help.
Did not see the light of day from 9am till 5pm to engrossed it a craft of creating a garden flower.
Food by Debbie was excelant with a vegitarion dish and home made dread and a cake you would die for .
Just the what you need to keep you going at the forge .
Get your hands dirty and have a go.
Another fabulous day with the team, this time to forge garden flowers. Expert tuition and guidance and delicious food.
Thank you to you all once again 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Brilliant courses , I've been on two now and the third one is booked. great tuition , fantastic food provided by Debbie nothing too much trouble .
The skill of Adrian is beyond belief his patience and expert tuition opens up a whole new world.
Can't wait for October for my next one
Highly recommended
Just do it you'll love it
The course, this time on Garden Flowers, was my third, and I was again well pleased with my efforts. Adrian and Andy, as always, gave expert tuition and enthusiastic support, while Debbie provided superb sustenance. The social atmosphere created by the participants enhances the enjoyment of the day. I will be seeking a reason to return and thoroughly recommend the experience.
A fabulous day with patient, expert tutors (not to mention the lovely food). I came away with a real sense of achievement and end products to be proud of. Thank you Andy, Adrian and Debbie.
I bought this as a 16th birthday gift for my Son and what a great day we had from start to finish. We were greeted with refreshments and homemade goodies before starting our epic day of bending and hammering bits of metal into our very own masterpieces! Adrian and Andy guided us through our projects with expert tuition and Debbie fed us until we were ready to bust! Adrian, Andy and Debbie, thank you so much, you were the perfect hosts and we thoroughly enjoy every bit of our day.
Five stars all the way from me for the beginners blacksmith day. Friendly greeting on arrival with tea & coffee, homemade biscuits etc set the tone for the day. Adrian's demos made each stage of our projects look much easier than it actually was but he or his colleague Andy were never too far away to give the students advice or help as required. Everyone completed the key ring & coat rack & were proud to be taking something home. A superb lunch was a welcome break, & then tea & more cakes once we'd finished, rounded off a great day, which was hard work but great fun. I'd definitely like to come back for more once I can think of an interesting two day project & highly recommend this to anyone & everyone.
Thanks to Adrian, Debbie & Andy for the day, and my wife Jackie for finding it & booking me on as a birthday gift.
The whole day was amazing! It was hard work as expected but once you get going it's hard to stop! I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who's interested because it's just an all round fun day of work with amazing products to be proud of at the end.
Had a fantastic time and a great experience for my first ever try at blacksmithing. Andy and Adrian were extremely helpful and patient making the whole day enjoyable with a great friendly atmosphere.
The food supplied was amazing with cups of tea/coffee beginning, middle and end.
I'm already looking into what I want to make next at the forge!
Many thanks guys!
Just returned home from the one day course with Adrian, Andy and Debbie. What a superb experience. Rather tired and luckily only a couple of blisters, but a great memory. Thanks again guys. You'll no doubt see me again for one of the other courses. Also thanks to Debbie for the wonderful lunch and end of day bakery. Five stars.
Just returned from todays course, tired but really enjoyed the day.
Great instruction from Adrian and Andy to guide you through the 2 different projects.
Food delicious and filling. Well done Debbie!
Good value for money for an interesting, practical day for all and no abilities.
Thanks again,
Steve
Great course, great company and great food. Highly recommended.
Battered, bruised, burned and blistered. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Great tutoring, lovely food, delightful people all round. Well definitely do it again once my arm stops hurting.
Great day. Learned a lot and had fun. Lovely food. Great support from Adrian and his colleague.
We had such a great time with Adrian and Andy, and the other "students". It was a joy to spend the day learning a new skill and we were really pleased with how much we were able to learn in 1 day.
Plus Debbie's cooking alone is worth the trip, I'll be coming back for a second helping of crumble.
Thanks to you all for a fab day!
Helen & Phil
Fantastic day. Learnt a huge amount about being a blacksmith as well as making a couple of small projects to take home. Very friendly team with fantastic food/ catering. Thoroughly enjoyed my day. Thanks for everything
Great day! I was quite amazed how far one get in blacksmithing without any prior experience. Thanks to Adrian and his team,
Fantastic day all round. Excellent instruction from Adrian and Andy with delicious food from Debbie. Really enjoyed it and cannot wait to book again, highly recommend it to anyone.
First time for Ben, return visit for Matt. Another superb experience. We have not one bad word about the course: Structure, approach, content, hospitality -all aspects deserve 5 stars. A rewarding day's activity which we'd recommend without reservation to anyone wishing to try something new.
I had an absolutely tremendous time at the Blacksmithing taster session, and learned a great deal indeed about something that I've only been able to observe from an outside standpoint until now. Huge thanks to Adrian and Andy for the opportunity and instruction on not only hitting hot pieces of metal, but on making those pieces of metal look good. Lunch (as I'm sure you've seen by the other comments and reviews) was delicious and much appreciated. The whole day was a lot of fun, and well worth the long drive both there and back. Definitely ignited a new passion that I hope to pursue in the future.
This was our introduction to blacksmithing and what a great day we had. Expert tuition and first class hospitality. We made a pair of candlesticks and despite the blisters can't wait for the follow on course next year.
This course on making a candle stand was my second blacksmithing course with Adrian and Debbie. It was again very worthwhile in every respect. Adrian provides first rate tuition, Debbie lovely food and refreshments, and the other participants are friendly and helpful.
Thanks to Adrian and Debbie for another great day and superb hospitality.
This is my 4th course with them and I left with another set of skills that I can use at home and lots of inspiration. The tuition, supervision and support is just right and all the courses I have done have been really excellent. If you think trying blacksmithing could be for you then definitely give it a go as you won't be disappointed. it might even be the introduction you need for a new hobby as it has been for me.
What a fantastic day! From the great welcome to the brilliant instruction from Adrian and Andy to the final realisation that you actually make something out of a piece of metal. And lets not forget the wonderful food prepared by Debbie!
All in all I heartily recommend it for everybody and anybody.5
My blacksmithing day was the result of a surprise birthday present from my son and daughter. I had a terrific time being taught how to make a scroll key ring and dragon coat hook by Adrian and the irrepressible Andy whose sense of humour kept us all amused the whole day. Frankly, I've never know a day fly-by so quickly. Food and drink was served all day including a lovely hot meal at mid day by Debbie.
Thank you all very much for such a great day . Martin
P.S. location of the course is Lat/Long N54.45371° W1.44391°
Fantastic day. Warmly welcomed by Debbie, Adrian and Andy. Extremely relaxed environment, great food and fantastic instruction throughout the day. Only made better by the great group of participants. One old tradesman and one slightly older tradesman learned some great new skills.
Another fantastic day. Thoroughly enjoyed our first blacksmithing day, we had to do it again. Adrian and Andy are excellent, patient tutors and the food provided by Debbie was delicious. Looking forward to the next one, maybe try tool making!
Thanks again
We had a fantastic day! everything we wanted from a blacksmithing experience and more Thanks to Adrian, Debbie and Andy. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic day of traditional craftwork with a unique piece for your home at the end of it- you will not be disappointed!
A fantastic day excellent tuition and food. I would highly recommend this poker course, thanks Adrian Debbie and Andy we will see you again
An unexpected fathers day gift - I am not known as a DIYer or handyman, in fact quite the reverse, but I really enjoyed this course and far exceeded my expectations in terms of what I was able to achieve.
My ramshead poker is proudly displayed in our fireplace and will bring back memories of a great day for many years to come.
This course was a inspired birthday gift from my wife. The wait since July has been torture. A warm welcome by Debbie, Adrian and Andy put everyone at ease and I could not stop smiling all day.
I was tutored and guided to produce something that was totally unexpected (a Rams head fire poker) and it is now in pride of place within my fire place. Adrian, I believe, gets as much pleasure from watching our
This was our second course with Adrian and Andy as we had enjoyed the first so much. This time we made a fire poker (me) and a toasting fork (Chris) and we're thrilled with them. Both Adrian & Andy are incredibly skilled and patient, taking you through what you'll be creating step by step and helping out when necessary. Debbie provides delicious home made lunch, dessert and cake to finish off the day. Despite being with 6 different people each time there was still a brilliant atmosphere which is all down to Adrian, Debbie and Andy. They are all so easy to talk to and make the day so enjoyable. I guarantee one course won't be enough, we'll be back for our third go!!
Had one of the best days ever!
Adrian is an excellent tutor, very experienced and knowledgeable. Got down to making something from the go and left with a sense of satisfaction and some pieces that I am proud of making.
I would recommend this to anyone and everyone!
Great day, great people, great food and great fun. Really enjoyed it, definitely worth waiting for
What a fantastic day. The tuition was excellent and the hands on experience of actually making things really made the day. The food was as good as the tuition and not to be missed.
Debbie and Adrian make a great team and are good fun.
Amazing day with good food, great tuition and have booked more courses.
An excellent day!
We were given a warm welcome by Debbie, Adrian and Andy on arrival and after a nice cup of coffee and homemade biscuits, Adrian gave us a demonstration of the key ring we would be making. I did have a moment of "wow, I'll never be able to do that" but, with the excellent Andy and Adrian on hand to advise, we both surprised ourselves and were really proud of our creations.
In the afternoon we made dragon coatracks, which again, we couldn't believe how well they turned out.
It was a lot of fun, quite hard work, but also a really positive experience of feeling like we'd achieved something.
As an added bonus, the home cooked lunch provided by Debbie was exceptionally good. The homemade cake at tea time was equally as delicious.
We will definitely be back for more courses.
Would recommend to anyone looking to do something a little bit different.
This was a surprise Fathers Day present, something I have wanted to do for decades..
I was greeted by Adrian, Andy and Debbie, with tea/coffee and great biscuits..
The course was perfect for anyone.. when you start trying things yourself, you just realise how good blacksmiths really are..
I can't really say anything different to all the other reviews.. Just get yourselves booked on the next available one.. I haven't stopped grinning from ear to ear since doing it.
The homemade food an puddings for lunch was amazing (Thanks Debbie) and the cake after we finished was wonderful..
Did I say Book a course now.. ? yes.. well do it then.. I will be again..
“A great day, good fun and relaxing atmosphere. Hands on and straight into bashing steel! Highly recommended will be taking time out to visit again. Thanks Debbie too for the fantastic spread.”
My grand son and I appreciated the warm welcome from Adrian and Debbie and the initial very important cup of tea to start the day
After the health ad safety briefing Adrian demonstrated how to make a key ring and we got stuck in our selves.
Lunch next which was greatly apprecialted and of exceptionally high quality.
The next demo involved making a dragon back plate and hooks which will soon be fixed to the wall at home .
Well worth the money and we are looking forward to the next course.
What a fantastic day, we will definitely be booking for next year. This course was brilliant and I would highly recommend it! We were greeted by Adrian, Andy and Debbie with tea and lovely biscuits. Very friendly and highly skilled and artistic craftsmen :0) they are masters at their craft and brilliant teachers. Thank you for a wonderful day and we will see you next year :0) hopefully on the tools course. x
This was my third course with Adrian - this time was the 2 day option where I was able to make my own project. Yet again it was thoroughly enjoyable - great company, absolutely lovely food & a brilliant teacher. Would recommend this to anyone & everyone - I hope to be back again soon. Thanks again Adrian & Debbie
Had an absolutely fantastic day with Adrian and co. Great welcome, fabulous food and expert tuition and support throughout the day. This was a brilliant birthday present and I cannot recommend highly enough.
Where do I start? I wasn't quite sure what to expect before I arrived, but Debbie warmly greeted us all with hot drinks, and homemade biscuits. Andy and Adrian were friendly, approachable, helpful and patient showing us what to do. Some of the results of other attendees were impressive, whilst mine was perhaps a bit hit and miss. However it really didn't matter as I enjoyed the day so much. Great tasty, hearty, healthy food for lunch. What is not to like. Cannot recommend this course enough.
Could not recommend this course enough! We drove down on the morning and were greeted by Adrian, Andy and Debbie with tea and lovely biscuits. We had a friendly introduction and then got stuck in. Adrian demonstrated really clearly how to do the tasks in doable chunks and then we had all the tools and equipment to do it individually, with just the right amount of supervision and guidance; I always felt like I had done it all myself. The projects we made looked great, and we had a fantastic day. It was certainly worth the cost, and the meal we had at lunchtime was absolutely brilliant- just what we needed after the hard work!
Couldn't fault this course at all, looking forward to going back!
Hi this was my first taste of Blacksmithing since leaving school 50 years ago.
The day did not disappoint, brilliant from start to finish with excellent tuition from Adrian and his associate.
Tea and home made biscuits to start the day followed by the obligatory health and safety then down to the first small project to get you into the feel of the forge and heat.
Good practical demonstration instruction, stage by stage, followed by an excellent home made lunch and local cheese then back to the heat of the forge and the completion of the Dragon coat hanger.
Every one was friendly and helpful.
Do not miss this course. I will be back for more.

This was the second course I have completed and can highly recommend it, I look forward to the next one. Adrian and Andy run an informative, hands on, yet relaxed course perfect for novices like myself. Debbie's lunch and treats were delicious too! Thanks again.
I came on the beginner's course to get a taste for it because I research fourteenth century armour smiths. Adrian & co. were fantastic the entire time each time I've been out, and now I've made my own tools and am hoping that someone will not be able to make it to a future booked course so that I can take their spot.
The first course introduced some basics and gave me the chance to make some gifts for family back home. By the second course I felt a lot more confident in what I was doing, but they still were right there with help and direction whenever it was needed.
And of course there's Debbie's excellent food that everyone raves about in these reviews.
This was the third course I have done with Adrian, Andy and Debbie.
It's a full day starting with a brew and biscuits then after the safety briefing and a demo by Adrian it's time to put the steel in the fire and start hammering.
Each step is demonstrated by Adrian and both Andy and Adrian are constantly on hand to point you in to the right direction.
At lunchtime Debbie puts a great spread on of very tasty food but be warned, there is a lot of it.
After lunch it's back to the fire and hammers then at finish time it's a hot or cold drink with a large slice of cake.
This course was the tool making course, a pair of tongs and a couple of punches. What was particularly good was making the punch then using it to punch the rivet hole in the tongs. It is really satisfying to use a tool that you have made from scratch to make a more advanced tool.
After 3 courses I have the tools and enough knowledge to make more tools and go on to make other items too.
Thank you Adrian, Debbie and Andy. I will be back next year.
Very friendly and fun day. Help was there when needed without feeling like your hand was being held constantly.
I'd recommend it to anyone if they have ever fancied having a go.
This course, a birthday gift (73), arrived as a complete surprise. Without any previous experience, I found it hugely enjoyable and fulfilling . Adrian and Andy created an excellent teaching and learning environment - very informative, supportive and relaxed throughout, encouraging good interaction between all the participants. Debbie provided a lovely lunch and refreshments. We were kept busy all day and I was pleased with my coat rack. Many thanks to you all. I would certainly like to return for another course.
This blacksmith beginners day course was an inspired Christmas present from my children because they remembered that I had said that I fancied having a go. It didn't disappoint. The welcome was lovely, tuition excellent, food fantastic and the finished products that we made are amazing. Adrian, Debbie and Andy run a great relaxed course and I am already planning what I will make next when I go back for another go. Can't recommend it highly enough!
An excellent day. Ever since I went to the local blacksmiths as a small child, I have wanted to have a go. But I have had to wait until in my sixties. My wife bought me the taster course as a surprise Christmas present and it was everything I hoped it would be. Adrian and Andy were excellent teachers. After a few minutes instruction I was forging metal - hard work but very satisfying and most enjoyable. I am planning to go again on the "Design your own project" weekend. I should also mention the food was excellent, especially the sponge cake with afternoon tea!
A brilliant day on the 'Taster' Blacksmithing course, which was all I envisaged, and more. Great demonstrations from Adrian, excellent support in the projects from Adrian & Andy, and fabulous tasty food from Debbie. Really enjoyed the day, and great to take your own creations home with you to treasure and remember the day. Hoping I will get the chance to return and do more. I have already recommended this course to several people. Great value and great people!
well my crimbo pressies was well worth waiting for. what a brilliant day, well organised, fun, very knowledgeable training staff and Debbie food was good aswell lol. must forget the boss well done Debbie for making my crimbo pressie a very good memory (that i want to do again) i have always liked forge work from when i did it at school all of 33 yrs ago, how you can see a bit of rod in front of you and you can make it into a nice object in the end of the day when i found out i had this from my wife i had looked forward to it, i told a mate who said if its any good he wouldn't mind doing it, after letting him no how good it was we both are planing on another visit. the place is a barn with all the equipment that you would need for the day 4 forges a anvil each and all carried out in a safe and relaxed area, the day starts at 9 ish and you leave about 430 ish your shown how and why things are done before you play then regrouped for different stages of the projects you have a break for lunch all home made to a high standard and freshly made, then back to the forge to finish the project off the overall day is very good and i would like to say to Debbie , Adrian and Andy keep up the good work and hope to see you soon
Darren
I had a fantastic day at the forge and would recomend it to anyone . Adrian, Debbie and Andy, Adrian's able assistant, made everyone feel welcome from the word go. Whether your a beginner or have some experiance the level of instruction is pitched just right, with you soon hammering the hot metal into shape. The day simply flew by with lots of tea or coffee and at lunch time Debbie provided an outstanding meal to keep us going for the remainder of the day. The day is so relaxing, you just don't realise that you are working so hard to form that amazing finished article you eventualy leave for home with. The whole experience has left me hungry to learn more and I know I will be back at the forge in the not to distant future. If like me you have looked at many different websites about blacksmithing wondering who to choose from, take my advice and book your course with Adrian. you wont regret it.
What a fantastic experience I've always wanted to have a go but what a perfect place to start Adrian and Debbie certainly know how to put on a perfect course nothing being a trouble . Debbie really does know her stuff when it comes to home baking Victoria sponge to die for and apple crumble wow . Adrian and his assistant kept his eye on all of the group with a great sense of humer and expert advice . It was a perfect day and will be back and would recommend it to all . We all made a large flower forged the leaves made the petals . When I arrived home with it under my arm the look on my wife's face priceless . Thanks again will be booking again .
Richard
Fantastic day. This is the second course I have done with Adrian, Debbie and Andy.
The day starts with a warm welcome and a hot drink and an informal chat where you get to know the others on the course and the organisers.
Then it's in to it, a H&S briefing from Aidy followed by a demonstration of the first process then you pick your fire and anvil and put your first bit of steel in the coals. The next 3 to 4 hours are spent heating and hammering various bits of steel with Aidy and Andy moving between forges giving hints and tips and having a laugh and a joke with us all.
Then it's lunch time and Debbie puts on a great spread. After lunch it's back to the heat and hammers.
The day finishes with a hot or cold drink and a big slice of cake as we all inspect each others work and have a bit of a Q&A with Andy and Aidy.
I (well my wife) is now the proud owner of a 4ft tall garden flower.
Looking forward to my next course with these guys.
It was so good the first time I've come back again and I've spent a very enjoyable day, learnt a lot from the experts, had a great welcome and an excellent feed. And I've made a work of art!!. What more could you ask for, I wholeheartedly recommend the experience
This course was great from start to finish. From an extremely warm welcome to great tutors, home-cooked and hearty food(Thanks again Debbie! Was yummy!) to plentiful supply of tea and coffee, the beginner's course made for an outstanding day of learning!
I was bought this as a gift as a 30th birthday present after being interesting in having a go at blacksmithing for a while, and had a brilliant day learning the basic techniques and having my first taste of forging. The two tutors, Adrian and Andy were knowledgeable and encouraging with both the information needed at each stage and tips for how to improve, or in my case adjust when mistakes were made.
The course was attended by a greatly diverse group of people, of a range of ages and throughout the day there was plenty of chances to chat and get to know everybody.
The level of instruction was such that within a very short space of time we were picking up the techniques needed and were straight into making the first of the items that we got to take home at the end of the day.
I would highly recommend this course to anyone, and highly intend to book in again to do one of the follow-on courses!
I had such a good time and never thought I would be able to make the items I did. Andy and Adrian are really good at judging how much help we needed, without stepping in too frequently. It was amusing to realise just how expert they are when a demo that took 5 minutes kept us busy on the task for an hour...I guess much practice makes perfect. The food made by Debbie was just great. Great to try something completely new and combine bashing the hell out of the metal with delicate and subtle touches! I loved it, laughed a lot and will definitely sign up again. Thank you.
We had a brilliant day yesterday with Adrian & Andy. They were so patient and knowledgeable, taking us through step by step what we would be making. They definitely make it look easy! We made a dragon coat hooks & snail keyring, which we were very proud of. We left The Forge feeling proud, achey, full of cake and ready to make more! Big thanks to Debbie for the yummy food. We will definitely be back!!
An absolutely brilliant day! Everything is explained really well and help and advice given throughout the day. We learned various techniques and how to use different tools. Everyone was very friendly. The food was amazing! And there was plenty of it. It really was a fantastic day and I would do it again. I would also recommend!
What a great day. My husband and son thoroughly enjoyed themselves and are quite proud of what they made. Both hankering for another day course, try making something else. The lunch and home made cake and snacks were fantastic, thank you Debbie!!
Had an absolutely brilliant day! Adrian and Andrew were both very helpful and knowledgeable. They talk you through every step and help if you aren't sure what to do.. The biscuits and flapjacks Debbie had made on arrival were absolutely lovely as was the lunch. I felt very welcomed by everyone I met at the farm and will definitely be coming back for some other courses. 10/10.
Just back from a great day hammering hot metal into shapes resembling key rings & coats hooks! It looked so straightforward when Adrian demonstrated each step! Adrian and Andy were good, helpful instructors.
The food was fantastic - home baked biscuits, flapjacks, cake & a very tasty veggie lunch accompanied by local cheeses and followed by a wonderful crumble.
I came home having produced a key ring, dragon coat hook & leaf hook with which I was very pleased.
I would definitely recommend this day.
Great day, great food!
Spent an excellent day at Hornby. Learnt a lot (its not all about hitting as herd as you can; some of it is quite subtle). Excellent food and good craic.
These courses are well well worth a go!! Many thanks.
Thanks to Adrian and Andy for all their patience - great fun. You sort of think that metal work would be Men only but this is definitely something to consider for both sexes - It really was interesting to learn how, from a simple piece of metal, and the use of some serious heat, what you can transform metal into!
Great atmosphere all day, and I must mention the delicious food.( thanks so much Debbie) Home made flapjack and tea on arrival, and then a great veggie lunch, topped off with cake in the afternoon. Its a great way to spend a Sunday - thank you!
My friend and I had the best day. We were met with a very warm (even though we were late), hot cup of tea and the most amazing flapjack.
Adrian took us through the course and we set to work.
Although the tasks were challenging both Adrian and Andy were always on hand to help, advise and support and I am so proud of my keyring and coat hook.
Debbie set out the most delicious lunch and sat with the workers while we polished it off, ready for the afternoon's activities.
The day was ended off with yet another cuppa and some delicious cake as we all sat satisfied and celebratory at our achievements.
Everyone was lovely and it was a great way to spend a Sunday. Thank you to Adrian, Andy and Debbie for all your warmth, kindness and hospitality, a famtastic time was had by all.
Can't wait for level 2.
Jo
What an excellent course,it was so friendly and informative with fantastic food can't wait to go back on another course we thank you all
Excellent course. Friendly, interesting and practical. Good food!
What a great day! Apart from a couple of metalwork lessons many years ago at school I was a complete novice and, had anyone shown me the snail keyring and dragon coatrack before I arrived at the forge, I would have laughed at the thought of ever being able to make them. Admittedly, my dragon looks like it's had a bit of a fight but I'm still amazed that I was able to make it! Adrian and Andy were fantastic at showing us what to do and gave excellent advice and support all the way through the day and the food that Debbie provided was delicious. Thank you all for a fantastic day.
We have just had a great day out with Adrian and Andy learning some of the skills of the Blacksmith.
This was a surprise birthday present for myself and son in law George from my daughter Sarah. ( A bit like being contestants on the Generation Game).
Adrian and Andy are masters of their craft and are also very good and patient tutors .
I am currently in the process of negotiating with my wife were the dragon will be located . ( The garage is looking favourite at the moment . Some people just don't appreciate art )
Also special thanks to Debbie for feeding us hungry workmen. The lunch provided was really nice especially the crumble.
Thanks to all,
David Newton
Following a warm friendly welcome and a cuppa, a brief health and safety talk, there was a quick demonstration of the first task, of making a key ring and the techniques to be used, it was down to hands on metal bashing. Adrian and Andy visited each person giving helpful hints and tips on a one to one basis. No one was rushed, everyone was able to work at their own pace. The morning and afternoon sessions were split by an excellent lunch provided by Debbie. At the end of the day everyone had produced a keyring and dragon coat rack. I had always fancied having a go at blacksmithing and did this as a birthday present to myself. Totally recommend anyone giving it a go. All I need now is to find time to fit in the next course.
What a top day. Adrian and Co run a great course. Both Adrian and Andy are very good smiths and fantastic teachers. I have done similar courses before in other disciplines and sometimes the instructors have a 1 size fits all teaching method but the guys tailored the information to cover the full spectrum from having never picked up a hammer before to some of us who use tools every day.
Debbie lays on a great spread for lunch and there was a celebratory cake at the end too and both hot and cold drinks were provided. Everyone on the course had a great day and I am booking on to the tool makers course, my workshop has been without its own forge for far too long.
The day began with cups of tea and home made flapjack (great start!). The teaching comprised of step by step demonstrations and explanations from Adrian followed by the time to try for yourself. Within no time we were beating red hot metal and growing in confidence. Lunch was great followed by an afternoon learning more skills and ending with home made cake!
Adrian, Andy and Debbie great a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and I felt a lot of thought and care had gone into the day. Would heartily recommend!
I really enjoyed this course, the teacher student ratio meant we all got assistance as we needed it and i caen't recommend them enough; Adrian and his assistant Adam are fantastic smiths and very good instructors aswell as generally really nice blokes.
It was a very good introductory course showing several basic blacksmithing techniques and showing what the art can be.
What a fab day. I've come home with 2 usable and useful objects that I'm really proud of. Adrian & Andy were just great teachers and so helpful. I may be back to try the candlesticks sometime.
I have just returned from a fantastic day. I was a complete beginner to blacksmithing and the course gave a great experience into what it is like. Adrian and Andy were more than welcoming as well as amazing teachers. Not usually a fan of vegetarian food but I have to admit the food was great too! Would highly recommend this course. You come back with some great souvenirs and a few blisters to show for your hard work!
Fantastic day.
I was a complete beginner to blacksmithing and I don't have much experience with any type of craft but I came away feeling like I had learnt some new skills and that I had made something half decent!
The food was top notch and Adrian, Debbie and Andy were all very welcoming and pleasant company.
It was clear that Adrian really knows his craft. I couldn't recommend this course more.
Thank you.
Honestly the best experience day I have ever done, they guys were excellent and paced the day perfectly. A great atmosphere through out the day with expert guidance.
The food, drinks and cakes deserve a special mention. I would rate the day a 5 star on the catering alone!
Don't miss out on the best creative experience day available.
Thank you guys, you will be seeing me again.
Well I've had an excellent day, learnt many things, in good company with expert tuition and fab food. The family think I'm a craftsman too!
I would thoroughly recommend the experience
Thank you
Great day out; well organised, friendly people, nice setting, fine food...
Only downside is that I'll have to wait until next year to do another course!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our day with Adrian, Andy & Debbie. As a complete novice I found it challenging & hard work, but extremely rewarding & enjoyable. We made a swirly key ring and a dragon coat rack of which I am extremely proud!
The day was well organised and you could have as much or as little help as you needed. The lunch and cakes provided by Debbie were lovely and Andy has the patience of a saint!
I would definitely recommend this course to anyone interested in trying blacksmithing; whether you're practical and experienced or not.
Thank you all for a great day.
I returned for the advanced course with Adrian as I had enjoyed the beginners course so much. This day was just as great and I was able to choose an item to make which feels like such an achievement. The cooking by Debbie was yummy yet again! I must say as well how much value for money you get on this course when you consider all the materials and food provided it's a very small price to pay for expert tuition! Thanks again.
Great day, like being back at school doing metalwork, creating something. To be quite honest I wouldn't have dreamed of doing this day and it was chosen for me as a gift. I had a great time, there was great teaching and I was impressed that the teachers allowed us all to move at our different speeds, helping here and there and keeping the fires going, which must be tricky. I was glad of the leisurely progress, tea breaks, pleasant company and lunch break as it is quite hard work really. Highly recommended.
"last mile" directions might have helped as our sat nav directed us to the village centre (about half a mile away) and then promptly lost signal.
We had a great day with Andy and Adrian with Debbie supply wonderful lunch and cakes. The day began with the safety brief then it was full on day of making our items boy was it hot . A thoroughly enjoyable day and it passed so quickly with great tuition by both of them . Thanks for a great day. Dave
Great food, great fun and great tuition. the staff were really helpful and friendly and the course was well structured, the projects involve enough difficulty to keep things interesting while also being achievable. A wonderful day all round which I would definitely recommend to others.
Fantastic tuition and brilliant food and refreshments throughout the day. Both Adrian and Andy helped us through the projects step by step and at the end of a long day we all left with two items each. Help was offered when needed and for those with less muscle power, additional hammering meant that no one was left behind. The food and cake made by Debbie was outstanding. Dietary requests were no problem and we will definitely be recommending the course to others.
I was given this course as birthday present in March and had been waiting for it eagerly. I was not disappointed. One of the best birthday presents I have had, and one I will remember and talk about for a long time. I enjoyed finding out, and making something as simple as a snail key ring, and how much work has to go into its manufacture. Then the dragon style coat rack, and how to transform a flat piece of metal via a bit of good old wellying, into something cherished and useful. Adrian ably assisted by Andy were knowledgable and patient hosts helping out where required whilst the students got on with their smithying.
I was very impressed by Debbie's home cooking using local ingredients. The snacks and lunch were delicious especially the waffleberry pudding, (had to ask for the recipe).
So thanks again to Adrian, Debbie and assistant Andy for a great day.
What a cracking day. I had previously caught the smithing bug on the basic course, but it was great to produce something functional during this session. As ever, enormous patience demonstrated by our teacher Adrian, and again fabulous snacks and lunch provided by Debbie. I defy anyone with a Rhubarb-in-the-garden-shed view of the world not to delight in these courses.
thank you for a lovely day. ash really enjoyed his experience using the forge and all the tools. debbie and adrian are great hosts, very patient and encouraging people. lovely food, and plenty of it, great atmosphere and thanks to the friendly cheerful andy we came away with some goodies -
a dragon coat rack and a key fob. would recommend this to anyone, it makes a memorable birthday gift, even as a spectator / responsible parent, an interesting day can be had.
All told, a really enjoyable day and one I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone regardless of age, experience or perceived ability. Everyone will take away a sense of achievement and something crafted in steel made by the strength of their own arm. This isn't a diluted demonstration day, but one of getting stuck in with fire, hammer and tongs. Adrian, Debbie and Andy's warm welcome, encouragement, guidance, good humour, patience and truly excellent home cooked food made for an unforgettable birthday treat. I hope to return one day for more of the same.
I had great fun learning basic blacksmith techniques and went home with a snail keyring and a dragon coat rack to show for it. Adrian and Andy are excellent teachers and helped everyone get the most out of their day. Debbie's catering was wonderful and she absolutely contributed to the relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
If you fancy a try at blacksmithing, book on this course, I would thoroughly recommend it.
An excellent course with friendly personal instruction from Adrian and Andy and delicious catering from Debbie. A wonderful gift from my children and something tangible and useful to take home. I would recommend this course to anyone of any background or ability - you will enjoy the day and making something with your own hands.
A very enjoyable experience and a great workout too.
Debbie and Adrian were friendly and welcoming, providing the best vegetarian meal I've ever had for lunch, and giving excellent instruction on how to forge the pieces desired.
During the forging of the pieces we were all independently working at our own anvils so it was a very relaxed experience.
Despite working independently, advice and instruction was still given to each of us allowing us to produce the best pieces we could.
At the end of the day you'll leave with the items you've crafted, a full belly, and a great experience. And sore arms, but that wears off quickly enough.
I'd definitely recommend this course! Adrian, Debbie and Andy are lovely people, and you experience Yorkshire hospitality at its best. The instructions were easy to follow with plenty of help on hand during the day. Debbie is a fine cook and keeps you well fed with her fantastic home baking. We can't wait to go back again.
Absolutely fabulous!
Debbie, Adrian and their team are so very welcoming and attentive.
Everything is taken in stages but don't worry if you forget a bit they are on hand to help and guide you.
The projects are fun and you get to take something home at the end if the day that you can say you made.
Nothing is too much trouble and the food is the final topping. Home made and oh so tasty. You definitely won't go hungry while hammering out your creations.
Just a great and unusual course!
I never expected to bash steel, but had a great time doing it! After my son withdrew from a course to return to the US early, my wife and I decided to take his place. Debbie and Adrian arranged for us to take the beginners course with smith Andy rather than the advanced tool-making course with Adrian. We had a great time, very proud of our creations and Andy was fun, helpful, and a good teacher. Wonderful food. Terrific people. As a bonus we ran into another participant later on during our holiday.
If you're not sure, just go ahead, you'll have a great time.
I have done three courses now with Adrian and I would recommend the courses to anyone. The content is well thought out and is managable for varying skill levels without been too simple or boring. The food provided by Debbie is always delicous and there is more tea and biscuits than an army could eat. For a fantastic day out with a course in a practical traditional skill you couldnt do any better.
A really enjoyable day with excellent and patient instruction giving me confidence to have a go at home to start making some tools and projects. It is astounding how we all converted two 6 inch long pieces of steel bar into a fully functioning pair of tongs that will last a lifetime, we also made a hole punch. We did lots of different techniques on the projects and fitted lots into the day. Just the right level of instruction, letting us get on with it and helping when stuck.
Thanks Adrian and Debbie for an inspiring day.
Cracking day, good banter with staff and fellow students, learned plenty, a good insight into how much hard work goes into blacksmithing, food and refreshments excellent.
One of the best days out I have had for a long time. Brilliant tuition, fantastic food and really good facilities. Would like to return sometime for another go.
What a great gift! Was given this as a Christmas present as it is something I had always wanted to try. Adrian & Debbie could not be better hosts for the day with yummy food & some brilliant stories to tell. Such an experience to work a true craftsman! Looking forward to giving the next course a go! Would recommend highly to other, thanks for a memorable day!
What a great day! Good food, great tuition, excellent company and I managed ( with lots of help!!) to make three items. A whole day bashing ( crafting ) hot metal does one a world of good and although it was hard work and needed concentration the time flew by.
Many thanks Adrian and Debbie.
The perfect day out, from the get go we we're treated with amazing hospitality and refreshments. The day started out with simple blacksmithing methods and as we developed our pieces and our with the guiding hand of Adrian and Andy by the end of the day we had a beautiful piece that was a joy to make and even more to respect the time and effort each part took to create. Dinner was lovely and at the end of the day everyone was happy and had made some brilliant pieces and memories to take home. I'd come back here without a doubt.
This was a fantastic 70th Birthday treat. Adrian was the perfect host and teacher showing great patience and just the right level of assistance when needed. I am now testament to the fact that you are never too old to learn new tricks. My Wife and I were well fed in the Restaurant and regularly watered throughout the day, (most important with the heat and work). The result of my days effort now takes pride of place on display in our hearth.
I would love to do it all again one day, and highly recommend it to anybody to learn more about this ancient craft first hand.
Absolutely fantastic day! It was everything I hoped for and more, so much so I’m now trying to buy an anvil! Really recommend this to anyone who wants a good hands-on experience of blacksmithing. You’re working all day, well fed and get to keep what you’ve made all for a really good price. The teaching was really clear and I learned a lot in one day, couldn’t recommend this more!
This was an excellent course that is perfect for people are new to blacksmithing. It was really good fun and has made me very interested in taking it up as a hobby. All your hard work hammering during the day is nicely rewarded by the amazing food you get during lunch and tea breaks. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone
The experience was everything I had hoped it would be……brilliant! Adrian and Debbie provided us with all the necessary tools and equipment to get through the day. All of us got stuck in after the initial H&S briefing, hot drinks, biscuits and introductions.
Adrian teaches you in skilled way that is easily understood so can be replicated with the emphasis on enjoyment. All the items we completed had originality stamped all over them (no pun intended) which reflected the diversity of people present on the day. You learn by memorable events… how true of this experience!
Both Adrian and Debbie are a great team which enhances the overall experience. Good friends, good food & good fellowship. Try it!!!

A heartfelt thank you for a truly fulfilling day. As a complete novice what a rare privilege it was to be in the company of a master craftsman in his own workshop, not some classroom or museum, using the same tools as had been creating the work around us.
I was half expecting to come away shamed into the realisation that the realm of the blacksmith is an impenetrable one for a mere office-dweller like me but quite the opposite, Adrian's encouragement left me motivated to put the techniques I had learned to good use.
I had a brilliant day and thoroughly enjoyed myself using the forge and anvil to make some cool pieces. Adrian and Debbie were lovely- Adrian was a great teacher and Debbie a great cook/baker. Thanks for a great day.
This was a fantastic gift, the day was amazing and fun, really enjoyed myself , I would highly recommend this experience day . Good tuition, good food, good company all in all a top day, can't wait for my next visit :)
A really great course from Adrian and food from Debbie. We got to make some really interesting items using a range of different techniques in a friendly atmosphere. I can't recommend it enough, a great day out.
This was a birthday/Christmas present from my lovely stepdaughter - the whole day was fantastic!! Both Adrian and Debbie are lovely friendly people and have a passion for what they do. My wife came with me , and although she wasn't on the course, Adrian gave her the opportunity to make something for herself. The facilities, range of equipment is great, Adrian is passionate about what he does and passes this on in a friendly easy to absorb way. Debbie is a fantastic hostess and kept us supplied with home cooking all day of a standard that would put all the TV chefs to shame - all in all , a perfect day!! - Go on - treat yourself, you wont regret it!
Excellent, informative and full on fun day. A great experience in excellent facilities with the bonus of wonderful home cooked food.... what's not to like! Adrian is obviously passionate about his craft and his enthusiasm is infectious. Highly recommended.
Excellent day, full of interest, Adrian was a very patient tutor with lots of knowledge on the subject, lovely food cooked by Debbie, will definitely recommend to friends and family.
Awesome. Fire, hammers, metal, noise, sparks. What's not to like.
I had a great day, learnt lots and enjoyed myself. Adrian was patient and helpful and very knowledgeable. The food and hospitality was fantastic, Debbie is a great cook. I will be recommending you to my friends and family. Thanks for a lovely day.
Tea, cookies, cake, no sword :( but a dragon instead. 5/5 would hammer metal with metal again.
We thoroughly enjoyed the day and were really pleased with the products we took home. The hospitality and tuition was very good in a relaxed atmosphere.
If you've ever wanted to try your hand at blacksmithing, I can highly recommend this course. There was a warm welcome on arrival and the tuition throughout the day was second to none. Adrian has a great depth of knowledge and his passion for blacksmithing is infectious. It's also well worth signing up for the course just to sample the amazing homemade lunch and cakes. I only wish they ran a cafe too!
What can i say that has not been mentioned already! I bought this for a birthday present for my boyfriend but had to go on it myself as it sounded amazing and i am very glad i did. From the moment we arrived we knew it was going to be a great day and I am not just talking about the baking. The step by step instruction was fab and Adrian gave you plenty of time to practice the skills on your own. He was also on hand if you needed more help which was good. The home made food was delicious and this made the whole day more enjoyable. You wanted for nothing and everything had been thought of to make your experience memorable. Thank you both and hope to see you again on a two day course!
Informative, interesting and fun course, taught by a very competent and engaging teacher, Adrian explained everything very clearly and made the whole day very enjoyable.
The food was delicious home cooked food, enjoyed it very much, I left with a bulging belly!!
Everyone was very friendly and helpful, I cannot recommend this course enough!!
This was brought for me as a birthday present and I thoroughly enjoyed the day. It was well organised and structured with everything being explained very clearly and the facilities were excellent. I also have to comment on the food which was brilliant - it was worth a day just for the lunch!!
Fab day with a very friendly and helpful tutor. Lots of hands-on time with a very good balance between guided and independent work. Very welcoming and fantastic food too! Thank you.
I attended the one day course about a week ago and have to echo my fellow attendees comments.it was absolutely brilliant. Adrian's a patient and helpful instructor, giving us a hands on demonstration of all that we would try to make, then encouraging us to have a go and assisting where needed.I would encourage anyone to attend the course as it is fun and the pride you feel when you have accomplished the three pieces of work that are part of this one day "taster" course is immense. The food that Debbie prepared for us was superb, home made cakes, biscuits and a lovely lunch.I can't wait to hear about some other courses.
My wife bought me this as a birthday gift knowing that I fancied having a go at blacksmithing. Absolutely loved it, really interesting and hands on day. I have gone from an absolute beginner to feeling competent enough to have a go on my own as a hobby - would also love to do any follow up courses on more advanced techniques. Adrian was a brilliant and patient teacher and everybody was able to progress at their own pace. Extra praise for the sublime cakes and food served throughout the day. Well worth it!
An excellent course that we highly recommend. We were both complete novices. This was not a problem at all. The five people on the course each had plenty of room and lots of hands on metalwork. Adrian is a very clear and patient teacher. He guided us through our projects and we each came away with objects that we felt proud of. There was a warm, safe, friendly atmosphere to the whole day. Lunch was great, quiche, local breads and cheeses and a delicious raspberry dessert provided by Debbie.
Once again a very good course that I will happily recommend.
What a fantastic day! We were greeted with coffee/tea and homemade cake, then down to business! Adrian is an excellent (calm and patient) teacher. He modelled what we were making in stages which was excellent because it was a lot to take in. We all made some pretty amazing key rings and a wall mounted coat rack, each one being unique! Lunch, was another hit, beautifully presented, especially the local cheeses, and very plentiful . I would certainly recommend this course to anyone. Adrian and Debbie( the in house Mary Berry) have the balance just right. Thanks,Gill
Amazing course! Presented with a coffee on arrival (much needed) and after a quick H&S talk we got straight down to hitting hot metal!
Adrian took time to show us how to heat the metal and hammer it accurately and was always on hand for any questions, tips and a helping out with mistakes! Fantastic teacher and an awesome day! Was beyond pleased with what I made!
Quick mention for the lunch as well which was exquisite!
I booked on this course for my husband's Christmas present and we booked a course for June. We were greeted with cups of tea and homemade biscuits on arrival which we had while Adrian went through all the health and safety information and explained what we would be doing during the day. We had a demonstration of our first project which was very well explained but not as easy as it looked when an expert was doing it! Once we had finished our keyrings we had a break for tea and homemade cake before getting onto our next project. Again, the demonstration was very good and Adrian came round to each of us to give us tips and help where we needed it. By lunch time we had completed a leaf hook and we were all really hungry ready for our lunch. The food was very nice, all homemade and local produce. After lunch we were onto our final project for the day, a coat hook with 3 hooks. This project was demonstrated with some different techniques including riveting, but we weren't following a set design this time and could add our own design to it.
Overall the day was very enjoyable and we came away with 3 finished items each. We knew it would be hard work physically but it was also really tough to get the metal to do what you wanted it too! Adrian was a very good instructor, friendly and very patient with our beginners skills! The food was all lovely too. We would recommend the course, it was definitely value for money!
A very good, informative and professional course balanced by friendly and enthusiastic tuition. Impressed by the scope of work carried out here alongside these courses, obviously this work is sought after and I have seen many examples in the area and in outlets. We produced useful items to take home. Plenty of tea/coffee/ refreshments during the day.
Most fun I've had with my clothes on as they say!!
A relaxed educational experience and it was so refreshing to be able to put any 'mistakes' back into the fire . . . and start again.
The food was also worthy of note - absolutely gorgeous and very plentiful. Debbie and Adrian make an exceptional team.
A course voucher makes a different and interesting gift appropriate for almost any adult. You do need to be reasonably fit but Adrian helps anyone who is struggling (me!)
Unreservedly recommended.
Wow! What an amazing day. After a welcoming cuppa and fantastic cake, a quick H&S briefing and down to business. The step by step instruction from Adrian is paced just right for all, and a helping hand if you need it.
On top of all that the catering is delicious, homemade and locally sourced.
I can't wait to go again!
Brilliant day. Adrian is an excellent teacher the course is fun well paced and really enjoyable. I was amazed at how quick you start making your own items. The food and refreshments provided were delicous. I would go on the day again just for the sheer fun of it.
A really great day. I would recommend it to anyone, especially those who don't feel particularly artistic but think they must have some creativity somewhere in them!
Adrian presents you with the ideas and designs and shows you the required techniques but the artistic flair is yours to express.
Really informal and relaxed and the other folk at the centre are similarly enthusiastic and helpful. The food and coffee are great and to top it off it's even a nice drive there and back (from Otley anyway).
I have no hesitation in recommending this course.
