Blacksmithing: make a rams head poker

X

Description

You will use traditional techniques such as splitting and fire welding to make a Rams head poker or a toasting fork for your fire or BBQ. Once the fires are lit and the health and safety chat out of the way we will get straight down to the business of hammering some hot steel. The day is fully hands-on and as well as learning the basic principles of blacksmithing, you will make two unique items to take home with you. Techniques for tapering, hole punching, splitting and riveting will be covered. The Forge workshop is situated in the rural outskirts of Yarm, between Darlington and Northallerton so is easily accessible from the A1 or A19. Blacksmith Adrian Wood is a university graduate with a degree in fine art sculpture from The University of London. A chance visit to a blacksmith's forge gave Adrian Wood his first taste of blacksmithing. He recalls; ”From the first moment I hit the hot steel I knew what I wanted to do.” Please note that due to our insurance restrictions we are not able to take any participants under the age of 18 years. Due to the nature of our workshop, we do not recommend participants bring any guests with them that wish to observe the day. We do not have the facilities or space to accommodate people that are not taking part in the activity. Please do message us via the 'message the tutor' button if you have any specific requirements.
