Duration: Half Day (4 Hours) 10am-2pm
at Charlotte Tollyfield Contemporary Bespoke Silverware
About the Course
A fun session for the festive season, learning the skill of hand piercing, with silversmith Charlotte Tollyfield, to produce unique copper creations for the tree or as an ideal token gift to commemorate the year.
You will be greeted by Charlotte at the entrance to the Persistence Works studio building, where her workshop is based, in the heart of Sheffield, who will accompany you to her studio where you will start the day with an introduction to the workshop and all health and safety procedures.
Charlotte will then introduce the project with some examples of what you can create before giving a practical demonstration on saw piercing. You will then get the chance to have a practice with the piercing saw and experiment with textured punches before making a start on your own designs.
You will be able to choose from a selection of ready-made templates, that you can adapt, or have a free rein and create your own unique design. Each participant should be able to complete two decorations to take away with them as well as their practice piece.
The short 4 hour session will finish with stringing the decorations with ribbon and sitting back to admire your handiwork with a well-earned brew.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
All materials are included in the course price and all tools will be provided by Charlotte at her workshop. Tea and coffee with fruit and biscuits will be freely available, but as it is a short session there won't be a break for lunch.
Charlotte is able to provide aprons, but if you have your own that you feel more comfortable wearing you can bring it with you. You may also wish to bring any wrist or elbow support if you feel you may need it. Flat shoes with a covered toe are essential as is comfortable clothing.
The Persistence Works building, where Charlotte is based, is a 10-15 minute walk from both the Sheffield central Train Station and Bus Station, and a 15-20 minute walk from the Supertram stops at Sheffield Station or Fitzalan Square.
Whilst Persistence Works does not have its own parking facilities, there is some street parking directly outside and on nearby roads, as well as several carparks within 3-15 minutes walk. Charlotte can provide full details at time of booking.
Really enjoyed the course. Small group and great atmosphere. It was amazing to take the decorations from start to finish. Would highly recommend and would love to do it again and make more decorations for my Christmas tree.

I was given this course as a Birthday present and I did't really know what to expect but I really enjoyed the course. Charlotte was very welcoming and the studio was a lovely place to work. I usually think of myself as being terrible at craft, but despite this I managed to make two beautiful decorations which I was very proud of. I would love to do another of these courses - it was a really lovely day.

What a fantastic day. My granddaughter and I had a wonderful day working with Charlotte. Charlotte was patient with us, as we learnt to use the tools to make our Christmas decorations. When ever we needed help and advice she was there and encouraged us throughout the day. The finished decorations look amazing and this is down to Charlotte’s wonderful instructions and encouragement. Tea, coffee and biscuits are readily available throughout the course.
My granddaughter has already insisted that this becomes part of our annual Christmas preparations. Having seen the finished pieces and listening to us talk about what a wonderful time we had, my daughter wants to join us.
If you only book one craft course a year make it one with Charlotte.

I didn't really know what to expect when I went on the course, as the last time I'd done any metalwork at all was when I was about 14 and still at school! But Charlotte explained everything simply and clearly, and had lots of patience with my slow and tentative start and soon had me cutting, sanding, drilling and polishing. The resulting ornaments are now hanging on my tree and I'm proud to be able to say 'I made those!'
I would recommend the course to anyone - Charlotte is a great teacher and also a friendly and chatty person who put even a complete beginner at ease.

Great course, very different to anything I have done before. Small groups so Charlotte is able to spend time with each person individually. Very good value, I will be recommending it to everyone!

I can thoroughly recommend this course. We spent a fantastic day at Charlotte's workshop, learnt lots of practical skills and produced some unique and rather lovely decorations. Charlotte was very welcoming and relaxed. She talked us through the various techniques really well and was on hand all day to guide us. We were treated to hot drinks and biscuits, mince pies and fruit. A very special day, something different and fun and we were really proud of our creations. We're booking again for next year :-) thank you Charlotte.
