kath reviewed: One day blacksmithing course in West Wales

"I had an absolutely brilliant time on this course. Never done any craft courses or blacksmithing before. It was great to meet other people, chat about all sorts and learn how to make things with hot metal. Aaron makes it look easy but explains everything really well, provides help where needed and lets you get on with things if you don’t. We all made some great hooks and fire tools. I am absolutely chuffed to bits with my toasting fork which will be a lasting memory of both the course and my 50th birthday present from some great friends. 100% recommend this!! "

A and T Petersen Ltd responded:

"Delighted to read your lovely review, thank you. Happy 50th too 😁"

Sarah Allsop reviewed: Beginners Screenprint Workshop With Oli Fowler

"Absolutely brilliant! Well worth the money and the trip down to Hitchin. My partner and I booked on the course as beginners, we both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and learned loads! Oli is professional, welcoming, helpful and super passionate about his craft, it's infectious. He explains each stage really well and gets you involved practically so you are fully immersed in the whole process. I'm currently looking to book on his advanced workshop in the near future."

James reviewed: Creative metalwork and welding, scrap metal sculpture.

"I selected this course as I wanted an introduction to metalwork and sculpture. All joining instructions were clear. Was met by Izzy and Shar who were instructors for the day for our group of 6. The instruction was very clear and friendly and they were on hand all day to help both with the technical and artistic aspects of creating a metal sculpture. It was great fun and would highly recommend. I will probably go on and do another course in metalwork before deciding whether to invest in some kit. "

WTF Workshops responded:

"Hi James, thank you for your kind review! We are so glad you enjoyed the day and it was great having you in the workshop. Let us know if you carry on with metalwork, we'd love to see any future projects! "

Annika reviewed: Bladesmithing Experience Day

"Fantastic thing to be able to make your own knife. David and Decklan were excellent teachers - giving clear instructions and explaining the process then letting you get on with it but stepping in to help when asked and giving tips. A great 40th birthday present for a friend and we’ve both come away with knives we’ve made ourselves that we can use and keep for years to come."

Clarke Knives responded:

"You both did really well and went home with great knives 😊😊"

Dawn reviewed: Pottery throwing in Huddersfield

"Thank you Geoff and the lovely volunteers in the art centre for making my friend & I so welcome. It was worth arriving a little early to look round the ground floor gallery & have a welcome coffee before going up to earth pig pottery. Geoff supplied aprons & explained everything we would be doing to make our first pot! His demonstration was very good, showing his passion & experience which gave us both the confidence to thoroughly enjoy our time at the wheel- very impressed & pleasantly surprised how enjoyable it was. We will definitely come back for more, thank you so much."

Earth Pig Pottery responded:

"Thank you for your kind review, Dawn. I’m so glad you enjoyed the experience and hope to see you again for another session. "

Andrew reviewed: Glass Fusing for Beginners - Flowers or Meadows Curved Art Half-day Class

"The glass fusing course was really fun- a lovely atmosphere with just 6 participants (the maximum), and clear instruction on all of the techniques before we were free to choose our designs and create our pieces. Jenny and Mike were lovely too, and kept us topped up with tea and biscuits. Really pleased with the pieces we created. Would recommend to anyone looking for a little artistic break for the morning, and makes a lovely present."

Vitreus Art responded:

"Thanks for your review Andrew - it was a pleasure having you both in the studio. Mike"

Simon R. reviewed: Zarzo Baskets

"A thoroughly delightful day in a sylvan setting. Nicki inspired our group of three from the start with her wealth of knowledge, expertise and patience. After a day of relaxed, well structured tuition and demonstration a completed Zarzo basket was the result (with which I am thoroughly pleased) together with further insights into the "ins and outs" of the weaving process. Overall a brilliant day."

Willowandyoga responded:

"Thank you so much Simon. It was a pleasure to meet and weave with you in the woods. Enjoy your basket making journey. Warm wishes Nicki"

Dave Shire reviewed: Woodturning 2 day workshop

"Just completed a two day wood turning course with Andy. When I arrived I was a novice turner who knew next to nothing about wood turning. Andy covered every aspect of wood turning in a very structured way, both theoretical and practical, which was paced at my level. I didn't stop learning from the time I got there to the time I left, and just as important, I enjoyed every minute!! Andy's knowledge of wood working, including turning, is second to none. I can honestly say it is the best course I have ever done, and I've done quite a few! I came away from the course a competent wood turner!"

Jo Bryant reviewed: Batik Silk Painting for Beginners - Spring Meadow at Yardley Arts

"Really enjoyed the course. Lisa was very good at explaining things and providing help when needed. A bit frustrated that the end result was not as good as I'd hoped, but I guess more practice would help. The workshop space at Yardley Arts is lovely and light."

Carl reviewed: Traditional Jewellery Making Workshop

"What a great and interesting day. Relaxed welcome from Ian, Jade and the friendly hounds and cat (Jade kindly fed and watered me through the day also). I duly presented my ambitious plan to create a ‘dragonfly’ based pendant, as a surprise thank you to my wife for gifting me the course in the first place. With Ian’s scrutiny complete I was fully expecting a ‘don’t be silly’ response if I’m honest. However, Ian took on the challenge and patiently guided me on the best approach and techniques expertly, suppressing any sign of concern that I’d possibly bitten off more than I could chew. Also not criticising as I snapped a (luckily) never ending supply of his piercing saw blades whilst creating the ‘wings’ of the dragonfly…I swear I would just look at the blade and they would snap!…always followed by an expletive and a ‘sorry I’ve broken another one’ comment from me. Ian was happy to teach and educate me on techniques, materials, processes and just input his expert knowledge, yet without taking over the manufacturer of the piece. So I still kept ownership of the creation (he really has unlimited patience) yet helped me out with some finessing when I needed a skill set to progress the design, that I didn’t have, to ensure completion. At the end of the day I left with new knowledge and skills as well as a beautiful silver dragonfly pendant that I felt proud to have designed and created. Thanks for a great day, highly recommended regardless of your jewellery expertise."

Goldwrightsjewelleryschool responded:

"Carl you really worked hard and made an amazing dragonfly I’m very jealous! Beautiful design and a lovely gift for your wife. You will both have to come and learn art silver clay no saw blades involved 😂 Xx"

Paul reviewed: Welding day class

"I've always wanted to learn to weld but didn’t want to do 10 weeks at night school. After doing the day course with Neil who had worked for mclaren f1 team as a welder so has a lot of great stories, I went out and brought a welder and am now confident to weld on my own. On the course we tried arc welding, mig welding, tig and alloy welding, so we got to learn the benefits of each type of welding and what was more useful for me on a farm. Had a great day, would def recommend it."
