Andy ward reviewed: Firebird Forge Blacksmithing School

"I had an absolutrly fantastic day with Mort. Only one other person on the course with me, which mewnt we both recieved fantastic 1-2-1 mentoring throughout the day! Mort is a wealth of knowledge, both of the art of blacksmithing and history in general that meant that day was entertaining, fun and educational! At the end of the day you get to leave with not only the knowledge and appreciation of how hard blacksmithing is, but you WILL leave with at least one thing that you haveade WITH YOUR OWN HANDS, which is a fantastic feeling!!! Couldnt recommend it highly enough"

Lucy Robison reviewed: Lampshade making workshop Edinburgh Scotland

"A very entertaining and fun way to learn a skill I didn't even know I could- under Ginny's expert (and very patient!) tuition I made my own lampshade and feel inspired to have a go flying solo at home with one of the kits I purchased! Great chat, lovely people in a comfy informal setting with all the cake I could eat to keep the energy levels up. Highly recommend this and the best part is I now have the perfect shade for my living room and ideas for future projects."

Little Lamptastic responded:

"Thank you Lucy! Fab morning!!"

Neil reviewed: Full day leather craft workshop

"I highly recommend this course and Rosanna is a delight to work with. I learned new techniques to add to my self-taught dabbles which was perfect for me. Rosanna takes you through basics and you end up being able to produce really nice items. I was the only participant on the day so I had one-to-one tuition and the time just seemed to fly by! Excellent."

Ian Taylor reviewed: Woodturning courses in Norfolk

"A truly excellent course. I am disabled and Nick was completely adaptable in order for me to be successful. The best thing was he listened to my needs and was able to work round them move things as needed. I was determined to have a good time and so was Nick. I learnt so much during the day and was able to try things out to make sure turning was the craft for me which I have found out it is. Thank you Nick and Jane the lunch was lovely."

Ross Friend reviewed: Learn to carve wooden spoons, beginners and improvers

"Covered a huge amount on the course but the pace never seemed too fast or to slow. Quite an achievement given we had a mix of students some of which had no woodworking experience at all and others who been professional cabinet makers! Left me feeling confident I could (on my own) start on some spoon carving projects with a good chance of producing an acceptable product success without losing any fingers ?"

"An amazing day learning the basics from an artisan craftsman. Nigel is a phenomenon. A true master and gent. He made everyone feel at home at the forge. Showing us the processes to make a piece step by step then allowing us time to follow suit. Always on hand for some guidance and a good yarn. Had a fantastic time and can't wait to return to make our wedding bands."

Ecky Prolingheuer reviewed: Learn to carve wooden spoons, beginners and improvers

"I've long looked forward to my spoon carving course with Dave Cockcroft, and it was a brilliant, informative and fun day, despite the cold and (mostly) wet weather. Dave's regular infusions with hot tea and coffee and with his homemade flapjacks, as well as the pleasant company of the other learners, made for a really enjoyable day. I had done a little spoon carving before, but Dave taught me new techniques and tool uses. I came away realising how much I still need to learn, but at the same time rearing to get on with carving so as to improve my spoons, even though it is doubtful that I ever get the quality of the spoons he made and showed us as examples. Top day, top teacher, top value for money! Ecky Prolingheuer"

Kate Jones reviewed: Needle felting workshop - Create your own woodland creature

"As a beginner needlefelter I was delighted to find this one day workshop to learn new skills. Having had a go at making a few things I already had some understanding of how it works, but it was really good to have Danise's patient guidance in making a hare. I learned lots of new techniques - some of which I think are unique to Denise - and had a really lovely day at Bonds with my mother and husband also making hares. I feel inspired to do more needle felting and only pricked my finger a couple of times! Definitely recommended!"

Gail Balfour reviewed: Wooden Box Making - 1 Day Workshop

"Booked this day as looking to try new things and love objects made from wood. I went with an attitude that I would either have a good laugh with friends about how rubbish I was or come home with a beautiful box and a sense of acheivement. Jenni was a friendly, knowledgable and helpful teacher. The small class of 3 meant that there was lots of individual attention and the chance to help each other. As the day went on I could see my box coming together and the comments I have had from friends and family have been very encouraging, from 'good for you', 'beautiful' and 'can I have one?' Will definately look at doing another course or two in box making and look at other types of woodcraft."

Stephen Ward reviewed: Introduction to woodland coppicing

"The coppicing course on Sunday 23rd September 9.30-4pm at Ecclesall Woods looked too good to miss so I promptly emailed the co-ordinator Fay Kenyon who booked me on the course. It was fascinating! There were only three participants and under Dave’s expert and patient tuition, ably assisted by Peter who is a volunteer, we learnt about the ancient craft of coppicing trees including hazel, ash, oak, and sweet chestnut. We were introduced to the history and principles of “coppicing with standards” which gives a sustainable timber crop for construction and furniture making. The uses for different species of trees was explained. After the efficient and safe use of different tools was demonstrated, we practiced coppicing hazel and were shown other aspects of woodland management and woodcraft. Everyone could have a go; after the gales and downpours last week the day turned out fine which couldn’t have been better for working in the woods on a sunny autumn day. I doubt if I have spent a more productive Sunday for a long time and consider myself very lucky to have had the opportunity to take part. Perhaps it was a shame it wasn’t better attended but we all enjoyed the experience. I can certainly recommend it and would encourage anyone to take a look at the website http://www.ecclesallwoodscraftcourses.co.uk/ which lists the variety of courses run at the JG Graves Woodland Discovery Centre at Ecclesall Woods."

Abbey Gear reviewed: Business candle making workshop - one to one

"Having attended one of Kerry's first Xmas workshops a couple of years ago with my sister, I have just returned to attend a bespoke 1-1 session. The aim of the 1-1 was to discuss a couple of problems i'd faced whilst making my own candles and also to learn how to make reed diffusers and wax melts. Kerry asked me in advance to send her a brief summary of the problems i'd encountered and when i arrived on the day, she had the whole session tailored around my issues. My husband attended the session with me and Kerry was so patient with us and answered our questions fully. Our session was so enjoyable and informative, the time passed far too quickly. Kerry is a dream to work with and is genuinely so willing to help. All of her points/answers are backed up with real examples which just further proves how good and knowledgeable she is! Her lovely country cottage kitchen is the perfect setting too, i'd absolutely recommend Can to Candle workshops to anyone, whether you are looking to build your own empire or just start a hobby, Kerry is your woman."

Catherine Ashton Copestake reviewed: Tilemaking with Richard Miller of Froyle Tiles

"An excellent two day course at Potclays. Richard is a great tutor; fun, informative and encouraging. I wasn't sure what to expect so I just took some ideas along - I already have professional experience in ceramics, modelling and moldmaking but wanted to learn more about press molding and production techniques. You don't have to have any skill at all - just play and enjoy. Richard supplied all the ready-cut clay so it meant you could just dive in. I think it's imperative to learn from someone who is involved in the day-to-day production of ceramics combined with good business sense and Richard's thorough and common-sense approach was a delight. Potclays is a great place to stock up on supplies - the staff know their stuff and are very friendly and helpful. Lunch was lovely and there's free tea and coffee all day. I'd would recommend this course to anyone in love with tiles (or slab building, or similar) and I'll be back for more. I found this course on this website, so thanks, Craft Courses!"

Potclays Ltd. responded:

"Thank you, Catherine, for your lovely review! Look forward to seeing you at Potclays again soon."

Carmen Gonzalez reviewed: Fused glass day course - beginners/intermediate

"I had a really lovely day with Nicky in a beautiful setting. I hadn’t done anything like this before and was unsure what to expect, but Nicky made us all feel very welcome, and although I didn’t know all the others in the group, the relaxed and friendly atmosphere made it a really fun day. There was no pressure or expectations to be perfect, just plenty of encouragement and help to create some beautiful pieces, whatever our level of creativity. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and would definitely do again and recommend to others."

Prue Curtis reviewed: Needle felting - woodland creature or bird, or other small animal: (beginners+)

"Another great day, this time learning needle felting. Sally was very patient and encouraging with our efforts. Everything was provided, even tea and coffee, and the work taken at our own pace so that we all came away with a lovely chirpy robin. Sally is an excellent teacher and I shall be going back for more very soon."
