A 'Made by Me' 2 colour lino cutting workshop - create a Christmas card or just print for fun.
Suitable for beginners.
As a process lino printing is lovely, it gives very unique marks. It seems to be going through a bit of a revival as an art form too. The focus is that you have a bit of fun and that you go home with a few prints. This is a basic introduction using the main the type of equipment and materials available for domestic use, not for fine art printmaking. So you can do this at home!
We are cutting two simple plates then registering prints on top of one another. Using small (up to 12cm sq 'easy cut') plates, we spend a bit of time figuring out your design, transfer, cut, and then print it. This process is split over 2 days to allow the first set of prints drying time. I will send out a little guidance nearer the time about what I mean in regards to how two plates might look.
I have a mixture of cards; you can create your own set of 8 printed by hand cards. Don’t forget to print one to mount, feel free to bring your own additional blank cards. If you have time you can potentially explore backgrounds - feel free to bring pre prepared backgrounds to print on eg inked, painted, collage (well-fixed please) try unusual paper or a book page or 2 etc.
An 8 by 8 cm block can be cut and printed in under 2 hours. If time is a concern for you please bring a drawing or printed simple image to work with, you will be able to work faster if you have decided what design you want to cut (you can message me an idea beforehand if you are super keen) and if you have a printed image of it that’s to scale.

I enjoyed this workshop so much! Maria taught us all the techniques of linocut printing and explained everything clearly and with examples. We all produced and took home samples of our cards. It was a great day and Maria gave us all the individual attention we needed. I now have the linocutting bug and can’t wait to do more!
