Tree Club | Lime with Fay Jones at Cambridge Makers

A new and exciting series of workshops looking at the characteristics of specific tree species and what you can create from them. Each session will explore carving wood from that tree as well as looking at its natural dyeing properties and other associated uses. Create your own miniature wood and colour swatch library as well as completing different projects per session. These are ideal workshops to gain confidence with hand tools, working with wood, dyeing skills and learning about trees! These sessions will take place usually on the 3rd Saturday of 8 months of the year, and give you an opportunity to explore tree types in depth. Fay has been working with, and in, nature for decades and has an incredible depth of knowledge about her subjects. Delve in with her for an intense, enriching relationship with trees! Trees and activities covered are as follows: Birch – dyeing, butterknife and teaspoon carving, birch tar glue Alder – dyeing, soap dish carving Hawthorn / Blackthorn – dyeing, pendants, needles, utensils/forks, mallets Lime – dyeing, bast cordage; making string and candles, lime wood carving – snakes and artistic objects Ash – dyeing, bark pouches, spatulas Apple – dyeing, haberdashery items, rings Hazel – dyeing, pegs, spoons Elm – dyeing and green wood free-carving
