This course is part of Dillington Discovery Summer week.
Celebrate the joy of watercolour with this week of painting in the glorious surroundings of Dillington House and Gardens.
Most of us paint in fits and starts and as a result our work doesn’t progress as quickly as we like. Each time we start we go back to the beginning again. The luxury of a weeklong course with tuition to guide you through your individual problems give time to tackle those tricky areas and really settle into a rhythm.
Work should become more fluid and expressive as the days progress and your confidence improves.
The course will be flexible in content according to individual student’s needs but you can expect advice on colours and how to avoid muddy mixes, choosing material from the wealth on offer at Dillington or from my reference material if you prefer to work in the studio. All the important technical painting gremlins such as tone, negative painting and washes will also be covered depending on students’ requirements but above all it will be a week of joyful painting with likeminded people.
The week would suit anyone who possesses a basic knowledge of watercolour or who has attended a previous beginner’s course.
Clare DuVergier is a well-known painter in the South West and lives in a remote area in the Quantock Hills. She trained both as an actress and as a teacher and her first job at the Northcott Theatre in Exeter instilled a great love of the local landscape. In 1990 having followed a number of career paths she returned to the South West and to a full time career in painting in 2000. She has exhibited at a number of galleries in the South West and Scotland and for many years as part of SAW (Somerset Art Week). She is now much in demand as a lively teacher of traditional watercolour. She works primarily with watercolour and occasionally in oils and mixed media. Her paintings are diverse and include both figurative and abstract works with a particular interest in colour and light.
