Stone Carving with a Master Mason
Contact course provider
About the Course
This day course is aimed at beginners and takes place within a genuine working stonemasons' lodge, in the beautiful setting of a medieval church. You will carve a limestone flower that will be yours to take home. As well as learning basic carving techniques most of our customers enjoy learning about the ancient traditions of our guild, that stretches back continuously to 1096. Your tutor, Master Stephen, is one of only twelve international Guild Masters for the European Guild of Master Masons. He is a Blue Riband winner and has been Master Mason at internationally recognised sites such as Windsor Castle and Woburn Abbey. Stephen was bought up in central London and attended a Guild School from the age of four and so has lived most of his life within world of the craft guilds.
Courses usually run at weekends, subject to Master Stephen's availability, from 9am-4pm.
“Great experience! Learned all about the guild. Friendly, calm and knowledgeable. Fully recommended.”
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. The voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

I really enjoyed this course and got a good feeling about what stone masonry was about. I also learned a lot about the history and traditions of the guild.
